- [Guillaume-]Antoine Calvière (1695-1755): Morceau pour l'Élévation
Antoine (or Guillaume-Antoine) Calvière (1695-1755) was a virtuoso French musician and composer. He held illustrious organist positions in Paris such as the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris from 1730 until his death in 1755 (succeeding Médéric Corneille), the Royal Chapel from 1738 (succeeding Louis Marchand), and the Sainte-Chapelle from 1739 (Pierre Février). Calvière owed his fame to both virtuosic playing and spectacular motets during his lifetime, however, this piece preserved in the library of the Brussels Conservatory seems to be his only extant composition.
August Guan studied early keyboard instruments and organ with David Ponsford and Andrew Wilson-Dickson in Cardiff. He is the principal organist of the Catholic Parish of St. Gregory the Great, Cheltenham since September 2024. He is also an active recitalist specialising in early keyboard instruments, especially the original ones surviving in museums.
