Glad you enjoyed the track, man! Thanks for the reaction! Everyone slips up on the pronouns, it takes some getting used to, heck even I still slip now and then. But I truly appreciate the effort. I noticed you updated the thumbnail on your last video, that meant a lot. :)
Hey Supts! I have a question about that actually. After hearing about it in this video, I went on some sites and found a lot of confusing information on you. Some sites said you were queer, Some said you were pan, some said you strictly go by they them, whilst others said you go by BOTH they/them and he/him. There's no better source to hear the truth than from your own mouth. Do you have a hard preference, or can people go by what's easier to remember at the time? Sometimes when dealing with these things it feels like walking on egg shells. (EDIT) spelling and grammar
@@lorrainebrunner2490 Hi Lorraine! Queer is an umbrella term for all LGBTQ+ identities and orientations so I am certainly queer. More specifically I am pansexual and non binary. I go by they/them pronouns. Until recently I had male pronouns in some bios for the sake of family I had not spoken to yet but all my official bios should be consistent now. I imagine some other sites may not have been updated yet. :)
Stupes' writing process: Right brain: "Alright, here's every can pun I can come up with. But we can't possibly use them all." Left brain: "You thought."
So, this video is actually *award winning.* There's something called The Logan Awards, which are also known as the comedy music awards, and it won for Outstanding Comedy Music Video this year!
And here I was ready to come down myself and chime in on Stupes winning a category of the Logan Whitehurst Memorial Awards for Excellence in Comedy Music for this bop. Looking forward to seeing what of their releases this year will end up in the running next year (and maybe also something of yours, Ian)
The first time I warched / listened to this I missed the beginning of this song. So I was like wtf. Why did he do this? It was weird. Then the ending showed up and I died laughing realizing he was trolling his friend. That this whole song was built just for that. Made me realize I need a friend like him.
I keep recommending Stupendium's Rogue's Gallery to the folks who do good breakdowns cause it's a damn lyrical masterclass. And I'll keep recommending it until someone finally does it.
Love this reaction, and of course the source song. I have used the nickname "Stupes" when talking about the Stupendium in addition to their correct (they/them) pronouns and it helped me a lot to use the nickname more in the short-term in order to train myself to use the correct pronouns.
I generally refer to everyone by they/them unless I have a reason not to. Pronouns are practical tools used to aid communication. They're not really supposed to be a part of your internal sense of identity in the first place. The main result of demanding people use specific pronouns rather than those they'd naturally use is that you hinder effective communication.
@@seigeengine Therefore, we should not respect people's gender identity, because pronouns has nothing to do with gender identity(even though the entire linguistic purpose of "he/she/they" is to convey the gender identity of the 3rd person)? Like, if all we care about is effective communication, then why not do away with gendered pronouns entirely, wouldn't that give more flexibility and thus be more practical? Not to mention more efficient too, one pronoun used for all people.
@@seigeengine more options, actually. Previously it's she = women, he = men, they = plural (rigidly imposed rules) But after it's they = he AND she AND plural (literally a lawless land) Thus, more flexibility, higher efficiency. Also, I don't see you denying my first point, I take it that you've changed your mind?
Anyone can watch a Stupendium video and be impressed. Not everyone shows that level of respect to the actual person behind the track though, and that sets you apart from a lot of other reactors. I had to go back and edit a thirst post on one of their older vids when I found out lol. Slide Into the Void and the Data Stream should definitely be on your list to react to if they aren't already.
Yeah, Stupes is amazing when it comes to fan interaction, watching reaction videos and hearting new comments even on old videos. They had to cancel their upcoming performance at Nerdcore Party Con due to covid, so send them lots of love.
XD. Damn. You gotta feel good knowing that the stupendium is both subscribed to you, and catches your videos at time of upload. If I were in your shoes, I'd be over the moon..! This was _very_ unexpected. It's like finding out MNM keeps track of you.
On the video, and the generally sky-high quality of The Stupendium's visuals, as far as I know, their background is in that general area of video-making, I forget exactly where, but it might be animation. Also I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the subject so if anyone knows more, feel free to add to, correct or contradict this. On their pronouns, most people will 100% understand that it takes some time to get used to the switch and generally once you're trying, people will be OK about it. The Stupendium has also said they don't really want people policing their pronouns, so maybe even this comment is overstepping it a bit, I'm not really sure. Anyway, the point is, the fact that you're accepting and willing to even try to get it right is much appreciated.
I know for sure that they have a background in theater. With the way the videos LOOK, they have to have a background in animation. I think you’re right. And thank you for the assurance. This is new to me, but I’m gonna definitely do better at being cognizant of their pronouns moving forward.
Stupes' writing is phenomenal, and this wordplay is one of my favorite pieces showing it off. I'll go ahead and recommend a different bit of wordplay, though, for a new reaction: Dan Bull's Fallout 4 SPECIAL rap. I think it's one of Dan's best showcases of his own wordplay in action.
Super glad I decided to check if there were reaction videos to Stupendium done by rappers, and stumbled across your videos. Got a few of them queued up. I just stumbled across Stupendium this week, and am on a binge. Was floored by the clever lyrics. I like your breakdowns, and pointing out little details, plus, as a diehard keyboard warrior SJW-type, I super respect you for making an effort on the pronoun front. Hell I didn’t even KNOW Stupendium went by they/them, so you educated me on that. Much obliged!
I'm super late to the party here and awesome reaction aside, it's absolutely amazing how hard you try to be considerate of pronouns and the like. We all still slip up, but being willing to do what you do absolutely means the world to people.
have you reacted to Amateur Wordsmith / Average Wordsmith by Stupes? I've just found your channel send I'm definitely looking into your others reviews, but if you haven't I'm really interested in what you'd have to say about those two songs!
just so you know what order to watch them in (if you decide to do it) Amateur Wordsmith came out in 2016, and then earlier this year they made a remastered version and a sequel (Average Wordsmith) to celebrate 1million

@@TheStupendium Huh, good to know!
I always love watching people's brains melt when he hits that 3rd verse. And the fact that he wrote this song in a single evening... Unbelievable!

nice to see you here Ian.
I think, if I remember correctly, they were a animator before doing awesome music, hence the knock-out visuals in all their vids
That would make sense!
Yeah, they have the writing game to a superhuman level. How the hell do they always find words!
I think the same thing after every song they do!
