'Stille Amare' from Tolomeo by G.F. Handel - Christopher Lowrey

Even though this last year has been frustrating in so many ways, it's been a true joy making music and memories with Michael Garrepy. He's such an instinctive and generous collaborator, giving freely of his time and talent, all while searching, self-effacing, and refining his art.
Here, by kind permission of the Providence College Music Department, and with the help of Dr. Catherine Gordon, Devon Russo, Brad Kleyla, Mark Garrepy, and Matthew McGuire, we recorded an old standby, 'Stille Amare', from Handel's Tolomeo. I've probably sung this piece at every audition I've ever done, but haven't performed it since the 2014 The Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions.
Elisa has the hots for the overthrown king Tolomeo, but he is faithful to his wife, Seleuce, to the bitter end. To prove it, Elisa forces Tolomeo to drink a vial of deadly poison. In his final moments he lets forth terror, impatience, fury, despair, and finally, resignation. Then, he dies. Or does he? Take two. Turns out it was a sleeping potion after all. Classic opera seria!
