This is a tape recording at the Fillmore East in New York City where Miles Davis was playing that night in 1970. Laura played two songs as a opening act. When Miles heard this song, he said it was the best arrangement and vocals he had ever heard. They become close friends from that day forward. I can’t image two of the greatest musical talents sitting in a living room and playing music together. Heaven on earth , I guess.
To set the record straight, this is from a 1971 performance at Hoch Auditorium, University of Kansas. That Fillmore East show you referred to was in June of 1970. And Miles Davis was the opening act. Laura performed a complete set.
@@denknee I can confirm tat. I was there! I was a huge Miles fan then and now and somehow hen I bought the tickets it never registered Miles would open for her. I was beyond my wildest Musical moments of my young life.
Laura G Photos and Film-Only in the past couple of months have I gone on a major LN binge. Only as of late do I now have now 9 of her cds (yeah, still playin cds and vinyl) and I'm ready to start the book SOUL PICNIC from Mizchele Kort. She mezmerizes me. I can't get enough of her writing, singing and playing.
Zee Man Soul Picnic is great, You’ll enjoy it for sure! I got back into vinyl records thanks to Laura. When I became a fan of her’s in 2011, I was desperate to get my hands on her albums, but no store had any of her CDs, all I could find was a used LP of CHRISTMAS & THE BEADS OF SWEAT, so I bought it - but had nothing to play it on. I ordered a turntable from Amazon, and that’s been my preferred way to listen to Laura, and all of my favorite Artists ever since. I now have all her albums, and the reissues, on both CD, and vinyl.
Laura G Photos and Film I wish I had seen her, but I didn’t know about her. I went to many concerts in NY, but I didn’t discover Laura as an Artist, until 2011. All I knew were her songs that were covered by others, which I’ve always liked. Now I know her versions are even better!
Oh my this is HEAVEN sent on the first day of the Memorial Viewing of our soul sister Aretha Franklin. I have never heard her sing this song before, but hope to hear more, and loved the video with lyrics from Den Knee . So much more intensity of emotion from Laura, than the original by The Impressions.
@@denknee I would love to hear more from that set.. if it exists. In 1971 I saw Laura in concert a bunch of times.. Laura and the piano.. always the best for me.. and she did much of that in concert that yearl ..
acoustic shadow lauras songs covered by others were never like her own versions hence she was kind of kept in a certain place only for the true atrtist
Laura's covers were exceptional, often surpassing the originals.
What covers? She wrote all of the hits others made.
@@gordonhollis43True, but this _is_ a cover song, Curtis Mayfield wrote it.
Magical and mystical. Ethereal, too.
We love Laura Nyro ! My older sister would spin the records back to 1969.. so her music was constantly flowing through the air of our home ! ✌️
Hauntingly beautiful
Totally agree with youLaura's talent is brilliant.
"haunting" is defintely the word for this....incredible.
More proof there is a God in heaven. Listen to the talent the voice given by thr Most High God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Oh Laura, always number one in my heart, forever.
Dang, this is so good!
A Soothing and mesmerizing cover of a classic song... ineffable beyond words...simply beautiful 🔅
Her voice is the best~
Very reminiscent of the spirit and feel of the "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat" record. Incredible find and quality recording....
Greatest VOICE & ARTIST ever! Thanks & greetings from Germany!

The best of them all.
I keep coming back to this. I can not stay away from it.
The same thing happens to me! It's addictive. I believe it's the only recording out there of her covering this song.
Beautiful cover

I am amazed. I have never heard this one! Thanks DVan for this special pleasure.
The original audio was recorded by Mark Bovos with support and assistance provided by Scott "Smokey Tadpole" Jones.
Has to be Audience Tape source. Sounds exactly same as many audience tapes in my bootleg collection.
HAUNTINGLY HYPNOTIC ❤

She grew up on Colgate Avenue near James Monroe High School in the Bronx ❤

When Todd Rundgren met Laura Nyro he said she looked like a large Gypsie.
I'll miss her until I'm stardust.
Joni Mitchell is talking her career in the latimes.com but Joni did meet Laura and they should have dueted.Big Sigh....
I don't think their voices would've meshed very well. Too different from one another.
