Is this something that fulfills the obligation of sending the salaah and salaam on the Messenger? Let us look now to some of the statements of the scholars regarding this practice.
The Permanent Committee of Scholars in Saudi Arabia headed by ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abdillaah ibn Baaz issued the following verdict when asked about the validity of abbreviating the salaah on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam): “The Sunnah is to write the entire phrase “sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam,” since it is a kind of supplication, and supplication is worship, (in one’s writing) just as it is in one’s speech. So to abbreviate it using the letter SAAD or the word SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM is not a supplication nor is it worship, whether it occurs in speech or writing. For this reason, this abbreviation was not used by the the first three generations, those that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) testified to their goodness.” [8]
“SAAD” and “SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM” are often used in some Arabic books. The English equivalents of these abbreviations would be: SAW, SAWS, SAAWS, PBUH, and the likes.
Al-Fayrooz-Abaadee said, “It is not appropriate to use symbols or abbreviations to refer to salaah and salaam, as some of the lazy ones do, as well as some ignorant people and even some students of knowledge - they write ‘SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM’ instead of writing ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [9]
Ahmad Shaakir said, “It is the absurd tradition of some of the later generations that they abbreviate the writing of ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [10]
Wasee Allaah ‘Abbaas said, “It is not permissible to abbreviate the salaams in general in one’s writing, just as it is not permissible to abbreviate the salaah and salaam on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam). It is also not permissible to abbreviate either of these in one’s speech.” [11]
And Allaah knows best. May the most perfect and complete salaah and salaam be upon our beloved Messenger, and upon his noble family and companions.

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.

Interesting that the clip is curtailed at the very moments pior to Shamsi deciding to turn and flee after his own scholars criteria were pointed out to him.
That's a misinterpretation of what happened. The guy in the glasses said he would answer Shamsi's question if Shamsi would admit to being a fasiq. The "if" there is going to introduce a conditional clause, meaning that "glasses" will only engage in conversation, if Shamsi says something that inherently renders everything he says unreliable and void. It's like saying: "I'll answer your questions, if you first admit to being a liar who cannot be trusted."
Also, this is a request made by the speaker. He isn't merely pointing something out that exists in the literature, he's using it as a conditional statement. That way, he knows that Shamsi isn't going to admit to being a fasiq, which allows "glasses" to then say that; "well then, since you refuse to meet the condition that I just came up with, I don't have to engage with you in discussion, bye!" Glasses thinks he's being clever, but this is nothing more than shameless trickery, it really is, as the request is specifically intended to block the other person's options. In this case, it actually shows that "glasses" is running away from the topic.
Furthermore, what's the point of making such a request anyway? Are you there to cunningly avoid having to deal with certain topics, or do you want to engage others, and have meaningful dialogues/debates? There was no reason for him to even bring that up, as it has nothing to do with two people in the Park having an interesting conversation. The only reason this is brought up, is because it is specifically intended to halt the conversation, and give "glasses" an easy exit. I don't like the guy, I think he's bogus.
Now finally, I am pretty confident that glasses didn't come up with this dishonest method himself. He learned about it somewhere. He himself isn't that clever, because when Shamsi asked him if Hassan and Hussain were from among the first emigrants and converts, he was dumbfounded, and couldn't give a straight answer. It was at THAT point Shamsi left them, and rightfully so, as "glasses" just exposed himself to be both a rude and unfair individual, as well as a bit of a dummy. Good for him..

If you're going to shut down and shut out any kind of feedback, then you might as well stay home. Shamsi wasn't doing that. It's also introducing another topic that Shamsi now has to address first, and so instead of dealing with the agreed upon topic, we're never going to get there, because the guy with the glasses is throwing up this wall that prevents progress. He could've left it out entirely, leave that specific topic for some other time, or allow Shamsi to properly reply to it, but since the crowd was loud and impatient, all it (bringing that point up) did was shut down the conversation.

What he said; I'm not familiar with it, but as is so often the case with matters of juristic details, the specifics of linguistics and definitions, and rules of engagement: everyone has their own opinion on them. So I'm sure that you can find instances in the literature where opposing views are given, or exceptions, or alternatives, etc. But anyway, to repeat what I already explained in my prior ramblings; "glasses" didn't merely present a simple criterion: he used it as a conditional statement, which means that if Shamsi is going to agree to the condition that "glasses" insisted on, nothing he says can be taken seriously, as he would've effectively called himself unreliable. Simple logic. This leaves Shamsi with no options, no where to manoeuvre. Not by his own design, but because "glasses" is insisting that he only answer a simple question if Shamsi proclaims himself to be an unreliable witness, which is unfair. That is what occurred there! That's a true analysis of what happened, and if truth and insight constitute "rambling" according to you, then I don't know why I'm even talking to you..
Now, I'm not entirely on Shamsi's side either, as he's a Salafi, and I'm not. So we'd probably have some disagreements, but I look at this exchange from a somewhat neutral point of view. And objectively, and unbiased; I see "glasses" evading the topic they agreed to discuss by introducing an absurd conditional clause that is going to block any further investigation into the topic Shamsi wanted to talk to them about. So to me, THAT's "running away". It doesn't matter if it's in the books that Shamsi adheres to, the fact is that Shamsi was willing to debate them, probably, I have to assume, with the intention of having the truth surface. And that's my point: Shamsi wants to delve into that stuff, but the guy with the glasses decides to apply this weird semantic trick that accomplishes nothing but halt the discussion, implying (to me) that "glasses" doesn't want to discuss the topic.
It's like we're going to discuss A, and you then tell me that before you do, I must first proclaim to the world that whatever I'm going to argue (in favor) for is going to be nothing but lies and deceit. If I don't grant you this request, then you're not going to discuss A. While I wanted to get to the truth of the matter, and while you merely claimed that you were willing to discuss A with me, in reality, your conditional request makes it impossible for us to have the discussion. If I then walk away, you don't get to boast that I fled from the topic. YOU DID
