Hi Faith! My name is Mackenzie and I found your videos a while back and love them! I just recently graduated from NYC Teaching Fellows, which is very similar to TFA and completely relate to everything you said. This will be a blessing to those who are in an alt cert program and stumble across this video. I am a fellow middle school ELA teacher and Christian so finding your channel was so exciting! Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for this! I'm in the process of getting placed and this video really helped me. There are so many negative videos out there and I appreciate your positivity!

The ones I know who taught in the Mississippi Delta got really disillusioned. One I knew went there with a, “We can change the world” attitude. Before the first semester was over was over, she asked if I had a big knife she could carry in her purse. After the her second semester, she was wanting to get a concealed carry permit to carry because she was getting death threats from parents and students. After that first year, she decided to leave teaching and go to grad school. She said 90% of her time was spent keeping order in class and trying to keep herself from being assaulted. So don’t go in there with a “young idealist” attitude.

Or do and be awakened by real life haha I actually think it wouldn't hurt for people to who talk so much about idealistic things to get a wake up call. Might provide growth.

Thank you for the informative video! It sounds like the TFA culture is competitive, is that true?

I didn't necessarily feel like they forced people to be competitive, but high achievers usually are competitive. I certainly felt like I didn't measure up a lot of the time. But that could've been my own insecurities.
