Keep in mind this will only work as long as you haven't upgraded or changed any hardware (graphics card / ram etc...) When you install an OS for the first time it installs and configures to your current hardware setup (physical parts of your pc). You won't be able to copy your current OS to a new drive and place in a new PC. The configuration would be wrong. Just a tip for anyone who is looking to build their own PC. You'll have to install a fresh version of your OS.

Hello, Very useful video with crisp delivery, full of facts. But can the same actions be applied for moving the data and installation with the new HDD to a new machine? Won't the windows install crash once it detects the new hardware and fails to load the ones already "accepted"?
False simply it will say cannot detect this device (a bunch of them) and you must install the latest drivers for the hardware go to contrail panel administrative tools click computer management and look at hardware might take a while though.
This video works really well since I might replace my computer and I need all the data from the old one in the new one minecraft my config settings and my programs plus saved data its tedious going in msconfig.
I'm curious if you did this with a tablet that has XP tablet edition and switched the hard drive to a new computer could you use hirens boot CD to enter into mini XP and fix the errors you would encounter with hardware incompatibility
A little late too but it depends if it is a laptop hard drive to desktop then it wont work, laptop hdd to laptop yes, so on as desktop to desktop hdd's
So, this might be a dumb question, but I'm not pro with software.. I would be looking to completely build a new PC, and if I have the windows disk and key and stuff, would I need to do this? Or could I just install it from the disk? If I installed it from the disk with the key and stuff, wouldn't the key already be registered to my old PC and not my new one? (I wouldn't be moving the hard drive over because I would be selling my old PC)
Very informative video. I have a question. So I have two computers. I have an HP and a Toshiba. Sadly the hard drives on both failed. I replaced the hard drive I had in my Toshiba with another hard drive. Unfortunately, my Toshiba had a 64 bit OS on it and the hard drive I replaced it with has a 32 bit OS on it. Now my HP hard drive keeps telling me that I have a Smart Disk error and that it is pretty much in hospice right now. The OS contained on this hard drive is a Windows 8.1. Is there a way that I can clone just my Windows 8.1 OS from my HP hard drive and move it to the new hard drive that is in my Toshiba?
The software you used to do in this process,is it a free software, you can downloaded from the web? This is a real question to the author of the video, please answered, because I can't used my docking device for self cloning.Because the TARGET HHD for to receiving the datas from the SOURCE HHD is a used HHD.
Does this work on *all* contents of the source HDD migrating to the new one? Or just the OS and installation files? I have a clunky 3.5" hard disk drive in my PC and was thinking about moving the entire computer to a 2.5" HDD, SATA SSD, or even M.2(PCI-Ex4) SSD.
I'm planning on building a PC, I'd rather not pay for a windows key. I have a laptop that runs perfectly, would it be possible to take the hard drive out of my laptop to use for the PC. Will this work and will the windows pass over to the PC?

Little tittle question: I have on my second (and bigger) HDD some data (data, games, Fraps recordings, Virtual machines...). That data will be deleted during emigration? And one thing: I want to install Windows XP on my smaller HDD, and keep Windows 8.1 operating system in one computer. How is it possible in this way, it doesn't delete the data or the OS?

just run "sysprep" from previous system & u can easily put newly transferred OS to new PC :) enable generalize in sysprep also
