Im currently replaying mario n64 again.. I fell down in the toadstoal map and got blasted up a bit by random air. But the power was actually only enough to slow me down.. So please make a video about all air spots But also. About the giant fiah in tiny big map And tbe monkey that steals the cap.. And the surfing shell
Not gonna lie, seeing the Chain Chomp climb out of that hole and attack gave me a small taste of the fear of him I had as a child. I never thought I'd feel that again 😂
I can't believe I finally won a member event! I figured my best chance had been the first one when there were only about a dozen members, now there's hundreds. I'm glad to see your channel be able to grow and let you really dig into the nuances of this game. As always, thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
@anonymous38741they're in game simulations, and its more like horse racing where you observe your selected piece to see if it wins, more luck-based but very fun to watch, especially with pannen's commentary
Just finished the video. So happy to hear you found your calling in life and feel happy doing it, especially after that moment where all that sudden attention and the negativity that came with it had you down. But you got back up and got even better at it than before. Congratulations dude. You can be proud of yourself.
@minirop Etymonline tells me it comes from a 1924 comic strip character name, so I think we can presume that's where the author got it from. I've seen the word several times, but today I learned!
19:13 Something I wrote in a mario fanfiction when I was 7 years old: "A scientific fact is that Chain-Chomps looooove water!" Turns out I was right all along
as a kid i always assumed big bob-omb was the one who chained up the chomp, thanks for giving them the opportunity for revenge (even all they could do was phase through eachother)
Man, this was such a fun video. I saw the 30 minute timestamp and I was like "woah, all this just about chain chomps?" But the best part is, all the info is actually real things and not just filler or random yapping to get more time on the video. On other channels, the member shoutouts are boring and annoying because they're clearly a very desperate and soulless attempt to get people to become a member, but in this one, I actually stayed to watch. And it makes me feel good that you won't just be retiring randomly when we least expect it like other RUclipsrs, so getting funding from members is actually very reasonable. Everyone needs money to live and have things, but getting money in a way that benefits everyone and is not just shameless clickbait or coercion is really refreshing to see. I unfortunately don't have any money myself to give, but if I did, I would definitely get the membership. Thanks for the fun videos, pannenkoek!
Pannen's member event are the single best version I've ever seen of a member shoutout, and it's not even close! This is such a fun and original way to thank people for their contribution, and making them feel like a part of the channel! I actually always look forward to them in regular videos, because they're as entertaining as the main subject ^^
I legit had to go back and check the duration when I read this comment. Watching it, it did *not* feel like half an hour! Pannen takes the cake for most engaging RUclipsr I watch, no contest!
The immense depths of expertise this man has on Mario 64 is ominous.. imagine if that ability had been channeled into something else. Thanks for using your powers for good.
Man, going from seeing you post the Watch for Rolling Rocks video and then seeing how much that did a toll on you, it's good to hear that you're finally enjoying this kind of stuff. From that video alone, it was pretty clear you had talent when it came to explaining things and doing so with humor. Crazy to imagine that was 10 years ago. Your return has been one of the most refreshing things about RUclips for me in the past few years.
Pannenkoek videos are some of my favorites on RUclips, and not just for the funny "haha lol scuttlebug jamboree parallel universe t.j. henry" memes. It's content that is genuinely both eucational and entertaining, and he seems like such a sweet and positive guy from the way he talks. I can't express enough how grateful I am that Pannenkoek returned to making commentated videos after that break.
@herothehedgefox I don't know how much he would want to talk about that, but I did see something a while back from him when he wasn't doing any commented videos. I think it was a public message, but I don't remember. Anyways, I think part of it was that people were doing memes about it, and it was a rough time in his life that he put all of his effort into to kind of get away from that part of his life, so he had associated it with that rough part of his life. Not to mention the toll that comes with putting everything you have into something. I think he saw people treating it as a joke, I mean anytime parallel universes comes up, I see Mario 64 mentioned, and that's almost entirely because of that video (hell, TJ "Henry" Yoshi has a 20k sub RUclips channel completely thanks to that video). On top of that, he was relative obscure before that video, I didn't know about him before then. I remember feeling bad at the time, because I made jokes about it too online, but it was out of love more than making fun of it. All that to say, it was completely understandable with all of that happening that he would step away for a bit, super disappointing since that was one of my all time favorite videos, Super Mario 64 being the first game I got when I was like 4, and the fact I do software development, and had just finished my degree when that came out, so it was a perfect mix of two of my interests.
I'm happy to hear that you have found such a clear and strong purpose in your life that you are passionate about. I'm not trying to say that it is the only one or the most important one, but just that it seems to be a big one that you are happy with. Even if it sometimes can be too much, like the one button challenge. Because I think it's possible to learn to take care of oneself and not overwork. I know this feeling of having a clear and big goal to work on from some personal projects even though I unfortunately have to do other things to earn money that I'm not really passionate about but I'm planning to do only part-time jobs if I can, so that I have more time to work on my personal projects. I know it can be really fulfilling to work on something big and cool and then have the opportunity to show it to a bunch of people, and in your case seems to work out really well because you have found so many people like me who are also passionate about your videos, so that's such an awesome situation for all of us and it also serves as a good distraction from all the things in the world and in personal life that don't go so well, as it helps to create an inner distance to these things and get a feeling of being part of a community of friendly people who are all super-interested in that one game. So thank you for everything, and I wish you all the best!
I’m so glad you’ve decided to go forth with commentating these videos, every time an un commentated pannenkoek video came out I was glad but it was always bittersweet, missing the voice behind the brains. Love it as always, keep up the great work pannen !
29:32 ur one of the most unique, creative creators on RUclips. You have a true knack for educational, entertaining storytelling, and ur an artist through and through, which I estimate is why it’s hard to go months without feedback - I hope you’re proud of your 1 button challenge video, and I hope you think it was worth the time, because I certainly do. Whether you make a good video every month or every year, the fact that people are enthralled by you demonstrate that you’re on the right track. Happy to hear you’re committed to the future of sm64 content creation and facilitating the layman’s complete understanding of a rly good game
Today's winner, @2WaterGuns, was one of the channel members shown at 3:37:45 in the Invisible Walls video, right at the beginning of the New Era. He also happened to come in last place in the competition for that video, where you made all of the members into Amps. A serious OG who started at the bottom, but finally came out on top this time!
Oh. Oh wow. Now I'm looking forward to THAT! In ~2005 I made a GameShark* code to make the Chain Chomp chase Mario through the entire stage, then made a music video about it. "Super Mario 64 - Who let the dogs out". It was fairly popular for early RUclips. ;) ( *Xploder64 code, but nobody here knows what that is :/ ) The funny thing is... it was entirely accidental. I was trying to hack an actor modifier, and was testing stuff involving actor behavior modifications, suddenly the Chain Chomp literally dropped on Mario's head, imagine my surprise when that happened! XD To this day, I'm not sure WHY that even happened. XD Best I could tell, the particular behavior-modification my code did deleted the so-and-so many-th loaded objects (The fact my code only works on real N64 and not on emulators probably has to do with how they handle this differently...?), some of those objects happened to be part of the Chain Chomp's chain, this _somehow_ allowed it to chase Mario EVERYWHERE in Bomb-Omb Battlefield. Including in the sky. Eager to see what pannenkoek has cooked up there. :D
That video sounded vaguely familiar, so I took a little looksie through your channel. Not only have I seen that 'Who let the dogs out' video before, but I remember several of your videos contributing to some in-jokes between my brother and me, especially from your "Super explosive Mario 64" video (at some point, I must've forgotten why the phrase "More Mario!" would pop in my head). It's always a treat to see old hands of RUclips still wandering around the site here and there.
That music video was literally my first Liked video on RUclips *ever*, way back in 2008. Watched it so many times and even shared it with all of my family. I always had to skip the ending bit too where the Chain Chomp rises around the wing cap, as it’d always scare me for some reason! For years I tried to find that cheat code to run it in my save of super mario 64 in Project64, that had a crazy amount of cheat codes running on it. I even messaged (through the Inbox feature on YT!) this cheat code creator named Yoshielectron about it, and iirc he responded that it involved more than just putting in a cheat code so thus I was never able to get it. I work at a game development studio now and that video may or may not have had a big influence on me getting more into Mario 64 and thus gaming :) Crazy to see you here after all these years!!!
hearing pannen mention Super Mario Sunshine makes me realize how much less we fully understand that game in comparison to the absolutely gargantuan knowledge base we have for sm64
So, I'm pretty sure the Chain Chomp's Japanese "bark" sound uses the same bizarre human voice clip that's used for Koopa the Quick's speech sound. I'm also pretty sure that Chain Chomp's mouth color is the same hot pink in both the N64 and Wii Virtual Console versions, the latter just has darker, more washed-out color overall so it looks "purple".
Dear Mr. Pannenkoek2012, I want you to know that you are my very favorite active RUclips Channel EVER. There is only one channel on planet earth that I pay the monthly subscription to, and it’s yours. I cannot express enough how much this channel means to me. I love Super Mario 64 so much, mostly because of the glitches and exploits, and the way you explain everything and show everything off makes me so unbelievably excited for future content, not to mention the fact that despite studying this game for years, I still always learn something new about the game from every single new video without fail. I love your content so much. You are also my biggest inspiration by far to make my own content, which like you I also want to do for a living. you inspire me more than you know, thank you so much!
I’m only 20 seconds in, but I love the confidence that Pannenkoek exudes in the intro. None of us really need any convincing as to why we should sit down and learn about all of the glitches concerning a single enemy in a 30 year old video game, and I’m glad he knows it.
Now I’m unable to unsee the white spot on it
That's always been one of my favorite things about him, since child me thought it was a cool way to make him look shiny, and adult me still agrees
Think of it like it's a birthmark.
I just think its a spot of white fur, dogs sometimes have spots so why not him?
@Tryxxorchain chomps have fur????
Im currently replaying mario n64 again..
I fell down in the toadstoal map and got blasted up a bit by random air. But the power was actually only enough to slow me down..
So please make a video about all air spots
But also.
About the giant fiah in tiny big map
And tbe monkey that steals the cap..
And the surfing shell
"the invisible wall is made out of out of bounds" is such a funny statement because it sounds like an elaborate bit but it's actually just true
Sounds exactly like it would be a bit in a YTP, but we actually know what it means
Sounds like some kind of SCP lol
I imagine that at least one person watching this has no idea what that means.
Its a very abstract math guy description lol
Imaginary number type shi 😂
@KingSvenDeluxe I'd gather most of the views on that 4 hours long video haven't watched through it enough to know what it means lol
One day we're getting Fly Guy and Scuttlebug videos, each will be 7 hours long, trust me
And people say that we’ve already peaked as a society
And I'll be there with popcorn lmao.
we'll finally see the scuttlebug jamboree
We do build up speed for 7 hours.
You think we’re getting a scuttlebug jamboree? It’s not gonna happen
Not gonna lie, seeing the Chain Chomp climb out of that hole and attack gave me a small taste of the fear of him I had as a child. I never thought I'd feel that again 😂
loving the in game graphics, especially with the wooden pole rotations, can't wait for more!
RIP your chain chomp
thank you the doorknob on the door
W Lunar
You’re very articulate for a doorknob
Hello lunarcomplex
I can't believe I finally won a member event! I figured my best chance had been the first one when there were only about a dozen members, now there's hundreds. I'm glad to see your channel be able to grow and let you really dig into the nuances of this game. As always, thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
Ggs!!! 🎉
are those actually games you join? i thought they were just animations
@anonymous38741 to my knowledge the members dont have control, but its not an animation, its actually in mario 64
@anonymous38741they're in game simulations, and its more like horse racing where you observe your selected piece to see if it wins, more luck-based but very fun to watch, especially with pannen's commentary
Okay but you only won because you're objectively superior to everyone else.
With there being only one Chain Chomp in the game, every Chain Chomp is in the same location.
Chain Chomp Jamboree: Achieved
I think a jamboree requires at least three individuals to be called that.
@PhoenixClank Given the lack of three Chain Chomps, the Council of Jamboree that I just made up is willing to make an exception.
Kaizo Mario 64 replaces Bob-Omb Battlefield with Chain Chomp Battlefield, effectively creating a Chain Chomp jamboree.
@anstheram Can’t argue with that I guess :D
🤯 🤯 🤯
14:55 "what's he gonna do to me now, oh my god he can climb out" pannen i love you
that felt straight out of a sakurai presentation. that's exactly how he reacts to things in his own games
we all love our sensei Pannen
4:20 me when i touch the cork box of intense pain and suffering
I'm imagining that one cartoon sound effect that goes like "YAAAAHOHOHOOEY"
Tom & Jerry scream
"What's in the box?" "Pain."
@K4RM4S4NDW1CH Goofy’s yell?
@Blueberry186-k9cyes
28:33 "The last person I'm contractually obligated to mention" 😂
Just finished the video.
So happy to hear you found your calling in life and feel happy doing it, especially after that moment where all that sudden attention and the negativity that came with it had you down. But you got back up and got even better at it than before.
Congratulations dude. You can be proud of yourself.
wtf is that profile picture, they furrified giorno?

When a red coin is so easy to collect that not collecting it becomes an unsolved challenge
"The most milquetoast jump I've seen" is such a funny thing to say lmao I love how disappointed he sounds
I'm even more disappointed, I thought he said "milk toast" and was kinda confused why he would say that. 😅
@minirop Etymonline tells me it comes from a 1924 comic strip character name, so I think we can presume that's where the author got it from. I've seen the word several times, but today I learned!
@doublex85 wiki says the same thing. not being from the US, it's normal I never heard about it before (and I never saw this word used online either)
@doublex85Most of us who use the word are completely unaware of its origin.
19:13
Something I wrote in a mario fanfiction when I was 7 years old:
"A scientific fact is that Chain-Chomps looooove water!"
Turns out I was right all along
lolz
now i wish i'd kept my mario fanfiction from when i was 9. hindsight is 20/20
12:28 petition to have a 😐 chain chomp channel emoji
I wouldn't have access to it but I'd still love that
If it gets added, I'm becoming a member immediately.
12:29
im not a member but i agree
19:22 exquisite use of the word "milquetoast" there
I successfully lost the member event during the first second. Place 553 out of 559 :D
Congrats! Im so proud of you😊❤
true speedrunners spirit
gg
that just means you got 7th place on the die% category
Congrats! I managed to become 334th hahah
21:37 この人がスーパーマリオ64以外のゲームも遊んでいたなんて…
At the start I felt like “every chain chomp glitch” was a bold claim. At the end I’m like “yep, that was all of them”.
19:58 Chain Chomp Jumpscare
as a kid i always assumed big bob-omb was the one who chained up the chomp, thanks for giving them the opportunity for revenge (even all they could do was phase through eachother)
17:25 I like to think that this Chain Chomp is actually King Bob-omb’s pet, who he set up as a guard dog.
WHO LET THE CHOMPS OUT!?! 🗣🗣🔥🔥
😢
Yeah, who indeed! XD
i did not
(WHO? WHO? WHO?)
Who let the chomp out?
0:00 pannen starts talking
20:56 you should've bomb-clipped into the fence to have chain chomp free Mario as a role reversal 😂
What do you meen (or Mean)
"...a static light source, AKA the sun." Ah yes, so easy to forget what the sun looks like for us trapped in the basement, lol.
Pannen always brings the SM64 community together, really nice how many new people we get from him alone
19:32 Chain chomp tries to break the gate, fails miserably and walks away in shame
Lmfao 😂
12:28 This is a fantastic reaction picture, next time one of my friends makes an unfunny joke i am sending him this
is your pfp mona lisa?
22:04 ah, yes. The "mario's broken neck" softlock.
Exactly! 😃
@JD-128 it felt very entertaining, I almost wanted it to be longer 😂
@JD-128well, the main content is 25 minutes, so _technically..._
20:34 the result is that both cutscenes play at the same time wich triggers a wrong warp to Ganons castle.
disappointed that the Death Star Glitch doesn't involve blowing up a planet.
12:34 chain chomp: o__o
1:30 : great, not even 2mins in and we are already orbiting chain chomps
Orbit jumpscare
He's a happy dog playing with his friend.
15:42 "Don't worry he's perfectly fine, he literally can't die 😃"
18:59 Dirty move, Goomba. Dirty move.
12:02 This implies that it's not a shine spot at all, Chain Chomp just has a white spot on his body
This is dumb, but I have been waiting for the day that pannenkoek would finally explain how those wooden posts work. My dream has come true 😆
now i know why they seem to stop working at all. i have to get some distance and come back to reset the timer
I legit never knew the wooden posts produced coins before watching this video. 😅
I guess this explains why the one in Tiny Huge Island doesn't normally work, too?
The immense depths of expertise this man has on Mario 64 is ominous.. imagine if that ability had been channeled into something else.
Thanks for using your powers for good.
chain chomp climbing out of the cannon scared the hell out of me

i didn't realize it affected him negatively. I guess it makes sense looking back, he did a lot of uncommentated stuff afterwards
Pannenkoek videos are some of my favorites on RUclips, and not just for the funny "haha lol scuttlebug jamboree parallel universe t.j. henry" memes. 29:43 the one button challenge video is legitimately one of the greatest videos on RUclips
what i like most is the SM64 soundfont renditions of royalty free music in the background
omg :0
lots of banjo kazooie
Interesting, I heard Banjo-Kazooie underwater themes.
25:27 the wind
26:00 dont miss the after video mini-game, guys :)
12:28 chain chomp 1 second after being called a chain chump.
It hadn't clicked for me that there was only one of him in the whole game until you said it. Literally half an hour about a single enemy. I love that
Some would call it "Water-locked" 19:08
I'm happy to hear that you have found such a clear and strong purpose in your life that you are passionate about. I'm not trying to say that it is the only one or the most important one, but just that it seems to be a big one that you are happy with. I find it very interesting how an enemy that appears a single time that exists to fulfill a single purpose is capable of so much
16:53 me when I go to chill in the doggy pool of infinite water and time
8:40 IT DOES WHAT
It fills me with glee to see that Chain Chomp will actively stall the game to play in the pool.
16:35 "and now you wanna see how far down I can sink"
-Gerard the chain chomp, probably
I didn't think this "Overanalyzing this singular enemy in Super Mario 64 for an hour" would become an ongoing series but here we are
and im forever grateful
Pannen did say that he planned on making videos for every enemy in the Goomba video.
I'm here for it, I love them
15:17 "made of out-of-bounds" is such a creepypasta concept.
pannen got that dawg in him
2:44 Invisible walls attack again!
24:05 I love the idea of Lakitu just hyperfocusing on the Chain Chomp
I’m so glad you’ve decided to go forth with commentating these videos, every time an un commentated pannenkoek video came out I was glad but it was always bittersweet, missing the voice behind the brains. Love it as always, keep up the great work pannen !
Babe wake up, new pannen premiere
In case anyone's wondering, the music that plays during the member event results is "Try Again..." from Pokemon X/Y.
So many glitches for an enemy that only shows up once in the game!
4:53 "I don't think the developers intended for this to happen" is a wild thing to hear from you this many years into the A-button challenge.
12:26 could not agree more

Normally I just come in first alphabetically!
alternative title: torturing chain chomp for 30 minutes straight
HOLP is one of my favorite words now
Mario 64 is turning 30 this year and its nice that people still find new glitches
I love how it’s a prerequisite for this video to understand what a HOLP is. It’s like I’m watching a PhD webinar in quantum Mario.
Oh. Oh wow. Now I'm looking forward to THAT! In ~2005 I made a GameShark* code to make the Chain Chomp chase Mario through the entire stage, then made a music video about it. "Super Mario 64 - Who let the dogs out". It was fairly popular for early RUclips. ;)

Its crazy that seeing the memes about tj "henry" yoshi caused me to learn more about sm64 than any other video game. What a nexus point 😂
31:52 THE Huggbees??
yes
hearing pannen mention Super Mario Sunshine makes me realize how much less we fully understand that game in comparison to the absolutely gargantuan knowledge base we have for sm64
3:41 I've played this game at least once a year since I was 4, seeing that chomp do that feels surreal
14:55 AAAAAAAH
Cancelling my plans today.
No wonder why the chain chomps hated water in sunshine, he was sent to an eternal bath under bob-omb battlefield
19:10 he hasnt drank water in 30 years
4:20 The Chain Chomp going STRAIGHT UP as soon as it touches the box made me laugh. Like it sat on a pin! "YOWIE!!!" XD
15:38 I gently open the door...
I gently enter the painting...
Even more hilarious when you realize Dan Salvato's one of the channel members. 🤣
God... Now there's a harrowing flashback
"We can also do the same thing using an invisible wall, since those are made of out of bounds"
26:56 HUGGBEES??
bro knows ball
Yeah I was shocked it was him too. You can see it’s really him at 31:50
that's not a ball, it's got teeth
i mean p sure we know he watches this channel, there was a comment on the invisible walls video i think
i had the same reaction lmao
So, I'm pretty sure the Chain Chomp's Japanese "bark" sound uses the same bizarre human voice clip that's used for Koopa the Quick's speech sound. I'm also pretty sure that Chain Chomp's mouth color is the same hot pink in both the N64 and Wii Virtual Console versions, the latter just has darker, more washed-out color overall so it looks "purple".
You have me chomping at the bit here. Must learn more!
That’s a surprising amount of glitches and complexity around the chain chomp. Way more than what I expected!
i love how he has a bald spot
"Today, I'll be showing every chain chomp glitch in Super Mario 64, and you guys are gonna eat it up"
Don't threaten me with a good time!
Bruh.. it's just incredible how you've pretty much thought of absolutely everything. What a time to be alive.
I am actually impressed by how much thought they put into preventing issues with the Chain Chomp exiting the stage.
Chain Chomp climbing up walls is unexpectedly terrifying
...I do not know why this was the video that made me realize that there's a detailed tongue texture inside of chain chomp's mouth. I can't unsee this
this man has done more research on the smallest detail of mario 64 than I have done on any detail in my profession.
I really like how you basically just unlocked the matrix with this game with all these camera angles and full understanding of the code 🔥
I’m only 20 seconds in, but I love the confidence that Pannenkoek exudes in the intro. None of us really need any convincing as to why we should sit down and learn about all of the glitches concerning a single enemy in a 30 year old video game, and I’m glad he knows it.
