I agree. When people sang these songs they meant every word from the bottom of their hearts and souls. This music got "US' through so much struggle and trauma. "If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be?" He kept my enemies away, he let the sun shine through a cloudy day" I remember singing this song as a child in church and I still sing it today as an adult, because the words are real and they get you thru. No music moves me like old school gospel music. It truly touches my spirit.

I got up at 6am and just needed to feel close to God, so I just searched old school gospel and this came up. By the second song I was in tears. I remember being 4 or 5 years old and hearing my granny sing these while praying in the other room. These old hymns just help heal my entire soul. I agree. When people sang these songs they meant every word from the bottom of their hearts and souls. This music got "US' through so much struggle and trauma. "If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be?" He kept my enemies away, he let the sun shine through a cloudy day" I remember singing this song as a child in church and I still sing it today as an adult, because the words are real and they get you thru.
