Good video. I have a 3 car garage/ man cave fully insulated, ceilings too and even the garage doors. Garage is about 660 sq ft with 8ft celing hight. The lowest tempature during Christmas will be 37 degrees farenhight. My questions is if I install a 5000-7000w electric heater, I have to installed a 240v outlet too right or it can be just hardwired??
Eventually I will buy a minisplit system and be getting rid of the electric heater. Will I be able to use the 240v outlet previously installed for electric heater when I install mini split in future??
Also we will be getting an electric car down the road so I will need a 240v outlet to charge car so what will be the correct pathway for my projects, install a 240v right now for electric heater so I have heater in man cave before Christmas or maybe just use propane heater just for that day🙄 until I figure out what minisplit system to buy??
    Sorry for all the questions

Thanks and hello! Having the heater hardwired will be cheaper. The outlet can me use for your future AC but the outlet will have to be changed to an AC disconnect. You have to make sure you have the bigger wire size of the two that’s required.
For your electric car you will need to install a new separate 240V circuit

@@sdoberma for your case. You don't need it. The charge only needs the black and red. The ground wire is done for you already

What if it's a 3 wire ??????? Red black green??? No neutral????

    • @KevinPon.
      @KevinPon.  Год назад

Hello Mike, it will be the same steps. You will just have to skip the neutral wire and make sure the green wire is terminated to the ground bar 🍻

Your worrying about a little extra cover showing, but in reality, if you touch the set screws, that are bare, while it's got live juice,a 1/2 centimeter of bare wire at the set screw is of no consequence if you touch those bare set screws with live power!
I had a shop I rented and the previous tenants used an axe to chop off all the wires to his machines to move out before the bailiff came! Bad idea! Every wire end was possibly live!
On one on the breaker box's switch he had wired power both on the same sides,as live through to a machine!
Should not have been done that way! And I didn't know or see the difference when I tried to pull the fuse to kill the piwer, using steel pliers, instead of buying the carburundum puller designed to/ for this!
The juice arced across an open gap,I may have had gloves on but I was immediately electrified, lifted 3 feet off the ground and turned 180° ,and the only thing that came out of my mouth was a tiny squeek, "Help"!
    ,which my customer didn't hear!
Somehow, the juice stopped just a second later, and let go of me,which I was very lucky! And my guardian angel was there to help!
So,always use the correct tools when doing hydro installs/ work!
I told the hydro service man what I had gone through, he said I was lucky it let go,as hydro causes the arm and hand muscles to constrict so severely that you can't let go! And it can break bones too!
He saved a coworkers life one time when he found him in this situation, so practice safety, and if you don't know what your doing,if in DOUGBT,DONT DO IT! you'll live longer, and not be found fried to a crisp!😮
