Hi! I’m the med student and currently on Psychiatry rotation, but I will choose Surgical Pathology as the elective soon. Glad that RUclips recommended your channel. 😁
Thanks for sharing your amazing experience❤️, you really can’t imagine how helpful your videos are. I just have one question if you could recommend us a reference or a guide book or at least the books you’ve used for each branch either in a.p or c.p.
Hello, I'm looking into Pathology and very interested in the field. I'm trying to find a shadowing opportunity in my area to get a more specific grasp of the field. Would you mind sharing your preferable ways to find shadowing? Also from my research, it seems like there are many specialize going into pathology, after Med school when you get into your residency, do you have to train as a generalist? Last question (I'm sorry it's been a long one), do you have to cut organs? Thank you!!
For shadowing, you should try to reach out to different programs to see if they will allow for an observer. Yes, there are many subspecialties in pathology that take place as fellowships after residency (see ruclips.net/video/73mBg-mD-l8/видео.html). And yes, we have to gross specimens, that is an default in pathology residency.
It’s interesting how different these numbers are in each country and knowing the US and each state and specialty. You also have to pay back your loans right? We earn more as pathology residents in Switzerland but I think the difference for senior pathologists is smaller. The salary in the US seems to be less regulated though. And the risk to be sued seems to be somewhat higher and therefore you need special insurances I have read.
That's actually not necessarily true. For the ones that go to private practice, sure they make >300k, but in academics we make about the same as IM and FM.
Hi, I am a veterinary medicine student and I want to get a Master degree in pathology after completing my undergraduate studies but rn I'm very comfused and I don't know how to prepare myself and what should I do after the master. is it worth it?
Unfortunately I do not know much about veterinary pathologists. I'm sure there is a lot some similarities, as humans and animals do share some similar tumors and pathologies.
thank you for this. I have been watching all your videos now that I found your channel. I am in second year med school IMG. Taking school NBMEs and Step 1 later this year. I have: 1 Research that I'm currently doing on COVID-19 President of Pathology Student Interest Group Student Ambassador at my school. Member of Research Club Volunteer: Community Health Fairs, European Solidarity Corps Project Lead Do you think anything outside of scores that I can add while in my second year of med school that will help show my dedication to pathology?
Do pathologists deal with cancer? Because this is a job that I am seriously considering (I'm a high schooler right now), but cancer is also interesting to me. What's the difference between oncology and pathology?
It is definitely hard to do so in an academic setting without an fellowship. Most academic settings are subspecialty sign-out. However, it would be easier to find a job without a fellowship in a community setting.
My impression is that starting for academic pathologist is around $170-210, and private is around $260-310. This is a useful article: www.cap.org/member-resources/articles/the-state-of-pathologists-job-market-and-compensation
I think it is because there is a lot of untrue stereotypes and misconceptions about Pathology and what Pathologists actually do. I am planning on doing a video addressing these issues soon.
It is pretty decent in comparison to average salary for residents; however, most time, the stipend given to residents reflect the cost of living of the area
How much chance i will have if i have done md pathology in india and started usmle journey(step 1 cleared) do program director choose me into residency(yog 6 almost 3 yrs md pathology residency training here)
It really depends on what you have been doing with your time since 2011. If this is your true passion, it never hurts to apply. Almost all skills needed for pathology are learned on the job as a resident.
I'm so glad I found your channel! Currently in Medschool and seriously considering Pathology (:
I'm so glad! Pathology is an awesome field!
Thanks for sharing all these! Pathologists really don't get enough credit for how big of a role they play in medicine, keep up the good work Dr Cindy!
Thank you!
I'm glad I found your channel. I'm currently considering doing residency in pathology in the next 3 months. Thank you for this.
I hope I can convince you to apply to pathology residency!
@rachaelanenga2595 Did you started your pathology residency ?
Is it possible if we connect ?
@geetabhandari5692 Oh yes, thanks for reaching out. I'm in my second year in Anatpath. I still need guidance. I'm struggling with making diagnosis.
Thanks for all the pieces of advice Dr.Cindy. It was very enlightening. All the best.
Thanks for the support!

Hi
Were you able to find shadowing opportunities?
It’s interesting how different these numbers are in each country and knowing the US and each state and specialty.
You also have to pay back your loans right?

Yups, our medical training system isn't the best. Most take on a lot of debt that takes years to pay off once becoming an attending
Very informative Cindy!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Dr Cindy, could you do a attending pathologist salary and job market video? thanks!
Already did! See if you haven't yet: ruclips.net/video/APcAUAo87HY/видео.html
Thank you for this informative video 😍😍
So you think that we could just save 200-400 $ from our salary every month in our residency
If you are trying to budget out monthly costs for residency while on a IDR plan, then yes.
What is the scope for Overseas pathologist in USA
As long as they do residency in the US and have a Visa, they can practice the same as me. That said, there is still a shortage of pathologists.
Hi Dr.Cindy what math do i need to learn to be in pathology?
Basic math that you learned in grade school. It's not really a math intensive specialty.
But after completing residency..the salary of pathologists is too high(300k$+) even more than IM,FM(200-220k$)
That's actually not necessarily true. For the ones that go to private practice, sure they make >300k, but in academics we make about the same as IM and FM.

Try to get rotations in Pathology before you apply for residency.

Pathologist diagnose cancer and oncologist treats.
@@Baking_MD is there a branch of pathology that treats diseases (like not just cancer) or do they all just diagnose?
@@stepstosuccess4577 pathologist usually only diagnose and some do autopsies but if you want to treat you should look at other specialties
@@stepstosuccess4577 they do help determine treatment through their diagnosis and further prognostic investigation
@@stepstosuccess4577no pathologist can treats disease
Is it true that it is difficult to find a job as a pathologist without fellowship? I am an img.

Very informative video ma'am. Thanks for info.
How much salary to expect as a pathologist ?!
My impression is that starting for academic pathologist is around $170-210, and private is around $260-310. This is a useful article: www.cap.org/member-resources/articles/the-state-of-pathologists-job-market-and-compensation
@@Baking_MD thanks for reply ma'am. Is it difficult to find a job as a pathologist in private ?!
Most jobs are non academic
My last question is why pathology is underrated field in usa??
I think it is because there is a lot of untrue stereotypes and misconceptions about Pathology and what Pathologists actually do. I am planning on doing a video addressing these issues soon.
I am a pathologist in india can i do pathology in usa what is the pro😅
What about as an attending?
Video in the making
81000$ per annum..
I think this is quiet good

You definitely have a chance. I recommend to apply ASAP,the longer you are out of training, the harder it is.
