    As the Health & Safety rep for the company I work at, some of the things I see happening makes me sweat.
    Not meaning to get preachy, and guilt anyone, but even though everyone is friendly with each other and they are doing a lot of DIY, it's still a company. And being injured on the job is a serious insurance claim and liability. And there's also the responsibility of leading by example.
    Maya gets really defensive when people call her out on stuff, so I don't think I would ever do it while she's live, for that reason. Cause it's also uncomfortable when she gets annoyed at people.
    But also, people can be dicks sometimes, and need to chill. The mansplaining is atrocious.
    Unless it's something that can draw blood, or cause a chemical burn, I see gloves as optional PPE. I work as a gardener, and even with my position at the company, I don't always wear my gloves. Sometimes things are easier without them.
    Something that is NOT optional on work sites, and what I would like to be seen here:
    Steal toe boots.
    Eye protection.
    Ear protection.
    That bobcat machine is LOUD, and I don't think I saw any earplugs in the other stream.
    Squinting when cutting wood is your call if you are building something at home. But it can cause blindness.
    Their shoes look good usually, but I can't tell if they are steal toes.

    • @maarrky
      @maarrky 4 месяца назад +2

      I made a shitty comment that I shouldn't have in the chat on stream about cringing from safety when Connor was using a skillsaw over his head and I got yelled at by Maya and chat (I deserved it) but I still couldn't watch, if the saw had any kickback he would've scalped himself

    • @Seruphin
      @Seruphin 4 месяца назад +1

      Wait they don't wear Steel toe boots?? That is actually crazy to me.
      Also once a 50 yr old guy at my old work had a hearing aid from noise damage from old factory work, one day he told me his ear was bleeding and so the doctor had to put a needle straight into it. Sorry that hurts to even write that but hearing damage is literally un healable and affects your whole life.
      So yeah I always wear ear protection now.

    • @ShesAaRebel
      @ShesAaRebel 4 месяца назад

      @@Seruphin Maya's shoes look sturdy, and could be steal toe. But they also look like hiking boots. Some of those come with a hardened toe, which protects you from jamming your toes on a rock or something. Which is probably good enough for the basic things she's doing here.
      Connor's is difficult to see, but they seem to be normal running shoes. I own a pair of steal toe running shoes I use for work though, so who really knows.
      Part of their normal job probably doesn't call for it. And if I'm just doing basic construction at my house, I wouldn't wear steal toes if I didn't already own a pair (2 technically, since I also have boots). But as I said, this is a work setting, and PPE and safety rules should always have a higher standard.
      In fact, if the construction workers are working on a site, even if it's owned by another company, they should enforce the rules of proper PPE. Many places will post signs, saying what you have to have on in order to enter. This includes 3rd party visitors, like the inspector and owner. Even if they aren't working on anything, they still need to have the basics. The fact that these people didn't do that is disappointing.
      I have seen many contractors working on sites where they are cutting stone without masks, using power tools without ear protection, cutting wood with no eye protection, and just all around being dumbasses. I chock it up to it usually being older guys, who think PPE is lame, or annoying. And who have been doing the same job for years, and don't see the problem with getting hurt. And if they complain they are being wusses. It can be pretty toxic.
      So perhaps the contractors who are working at the sanctuary are like that, and the staff/volunteers who are helping out are just matching the vibe.
      Or maybe because they aren't tradespeople themselves, they never thought of it.

      It was just as sketchy when she was trying to use the chainsaw to cut the vertical posts. At least the circular saw has a guard on it. I usually try to avoid backseating but good lord does she need someone to teach her what not to do with those saws. She will probably get mad at these comments on here, but that's better then having a chainsaw kick back into your neck.
