Thanks for sharing. Glad the ultimate test went very well. Strong winds, family pressure and a first timer. And the 25 mW seems more than enough for this flight.
Hehe thanks :-) It does seem like I jumped in at the deep-end with this one. I'm very glad I had the foresight to add a mix to have manual mode easily accesible on a switch rather than fumbling with the 6pos switch. I'm going to flash the lastest Walksnail Beta firmware this evening which improves low signal performance and camera settings even further.
@@Crunklefloop Despite all the FC control support, the manual and emergency mode needs to be a quick switch away. And the only mode my TX trims are available. Only first and last of the six pos switches in flight are usable for me. I have to count the other positions, using my fingers, with my goggles on.
I believe this might have been a result of strong wings and having weathervane switched on - I switched this off in MP by setting Q_WVANE_ENABLE = 0 After that I had no issues, although I also never flew in wind as strong as it was on the day of this video too.
Sorry for the late reply. I've only just noticed your message. I'm not using DJI, I'm using Walksnail here but powering the two is the same. I am using the Vbat pad to power mine. Depending on what DJI system you have OSD might be limited.
That was always my aproach with flying quads too. Once I was flying a 5" on 6S and lost video, I punched the throttle and heard the motors scream followed by a loud THUD. Turn's out that in the second after I lost video the quad went inverted so I had punched it full throttle into the ground. Left a nice little crater
the messages mean that the Crossfire telemetry was coming and going. This has nothing to do with your Crossfire link to the plane so nothing to worry about
Well done for hitting the power and gunning it out of trouble... I've just got finished making my first HD 5 inch quad with Walksnail...Where did you get that nice HD OSD font from? 🤔🤔😳😏😏🇬🇧
@@Crunklefloop I'm confused a bit ..So we copy the font file to the Walksnail Goggles via the SD card, but what font do we choose inside Betaflight?..Or doesn't it matter? Also, how did you get the OSD overlay on the Goggle DVR? Sorry to be a pain...lol 🤔🤔🤔😳🇬🇧
@@EnglishTurbines So the OSD is only handled in the goggles as it's being sent via MSP (the positions of the elements is set on betaflight/INAV etc) however the actual font is within the goggles. After you've added the custom font files to the SD card (for Betaflight these will be the font_update.ini, WS_BF_24.png and WS_BF_36.png files) insert it in your goggles, power them on and connect to your VTX. Then you'll need to open goggles settings menu [display], click [Font Update] to update font. Afterwards you then select the Custom Font (it will be labled BF in your case) and it should then display. In the latest firmware the OSD is recorded with the DVR but is only currently viewable in playback on the goggles, to record this I used a USB-C to HDMI cable and HDMI capture card and recorded it using the USB Camera app on my phone.
I've never used a 5,000mah bat. I generally stick with the 1,800mah lipo and that gets 20mins which is enough for me on this plane. I think you probably could hit C.G with 5,000mah if you were using 21700 cells however I'd watch the voltage sag when the packs drop below 3v/cell as you'll want to keep enough in reserve to maintain a landing hover.
Is wind vane on? Seemed like you were perfectly into the wind on landing but then spun around. I’ve the same plane just never had the nuts to fly wind like that lol
Nice test. Looks like it could be some fun. Why did you go ardupilot? Is it better for vtol? I'm try8ng to get my head around it now b2cause I have an o3 air unit and want some osd.. its a big learning curve coming from inav haha
I had to go Ardu as INAV doesn't support VTOL yet. It was a bit of a learning curve but like INAV the community is very supportive and knowledgable. Hopefully DJI will put some work in to make the O3 more useable for fixed wing, I was really disappointed that they promised canvas OSD and then didn't deliver on what the marketing led people to believe. The image does look really decent though!
@@Crunklefloop I notice custom fonts, but how did you get elements render close to edge of screen ? MP configurator allows place elements in 704 × 480 (NTSC) area only, or I something miss ?

Great Video, Keeps the Heart PUMPING(first flight & all)! You handelled the wind great! Thank You!
Thank you for your kind praise! 🙂
Well, that flight had some fun moments :) Glad you got the plane back safely and in one piece
Short but sweet! I'm glad it all come home too. Lesson learnt not to fly a 690g VTOL in strong winds!

Looks promising.Just got the Xiake to have a dabble with VTOL,only hovered in the garden so far as the weather is pants.
Thanks Jake. I hope the Xiake goes well for you. I had plenty of garden hovering flights too, it's awesome seeing the tilt rotors in action on yaw.
This is what i ment by (tip stall) to you earlier today...

Check out my homemade fpv cockpit flight with the T1 ranger vtol
Nice! Now you know how what conditions you don’t want to push it in 😂. I got one too. Just need to set aside some time to build.
Thanks buddy, nothing like jumping in at the deep end!
Man that's an awesome but of kit!
Thanks dude! I'm looking forward to flying this one lots more!
How much would this setup cost minus the transmitter?
I'd have to add it all up as there are plenty of aftermarket parts.
For the wind it handled nicely. Yeah, if in doubt, flat it out (the power, not the plane 🙂).....
