Great video , Great detail . Most people wait until there is a problem before replacing the belts, because it is a time consuming job that requires some thought. that is why we end up with the job. Snow blowers the same thing ,do nothing until it does not work. The first snow fall 300 calls my snow blower want start or broke. People lets look at them before you need them. We have time.
Know this is an old post, but one thing never changes from one year to the next. You guys (& gals) in the business, now (August) IS the time for customers to bring you in their mowers for service, before next spring being lawn mower season is winding down for this year.. Ditto for their ATVs , chainsaws before hunting & wood gathering season. Not to mention snow blowers for the northern US States. Generators too before the next hurricane or ice storm can hit! Conversely, as someone who does most my own work, I try not to bug my local shop guy to order me parts during the height of lawn mower season, unless I really need some part which can't wait. Carry on, you guys and gals in the repair business do the public a good service, only to be mostly bitched at for why parts and repairs cost so much, and take so long. Us do your selfers at least have some idea what you go through. Keep up the good work.
You can put the drive belt on without removing. Put the belt on until you cant when you reach the area where it comes in contact to close to side of mower. Then put vise grips on the nut on top of the large pulley. Turn counter clockwise and belt will drop in to place. But your video helped me with knowing how it all works.
When removing the belts you only loosened two self tapping screws that held the cvt pulley to the frame, and made a point to not remove too far, but when you put it back together you had the pulley stack all the way removed. Did you end up needing to remove it to get the belt on? Does it just come right out if you take the 2 screws out all the way?
Did you ever do a followup video on replacing that Tecumseh engine, being you had maybe one or two seasons at the most left on it? Were good engines back in their day. Unfortunately by time this one was made, Tecumseh was pretty much toast. My experience with an almost identical one, aside from mine being 17 HP, was it became nearly impossible for the starter motor to turn over. It might start, run a minute or two then die. We thought the issue was the compression release broken, requiring a "camshaft kit". Not even the dealer was able to cross reference the model for to get the exact part. Decided instead of tearing engine apart, obtaining gaskets, doing a bunch of other work, why the best idea would be say goodbye to Tecumseh and repower the mower.
I have question about drive belt pulley on the mtd hydrostatic with electric pto. Small upper pulley has hub above and below. One side is thicker and has built-in key. Other side is thinner and no key. Which side goes against engine?
@EliminatorPerformance Obviously your deck is removed. But I have to ask do you know how to adjust/tighten the engine yo deck belt on this mower? I know it's a long shot but my service guy is unsavory.
Thanks for the video. It helped a lot. Still not sure if I did it right though. The belt really slaps around at low speeds and even runs at idle. Is the belt ever supposed to just sit still?
Thanks for the help, guess what I really need is one of those front end lifts! Stuck doing this for a friend, have done it once before and it is a royal PIA... Funny, I don't remember all those idler pulleys underneath, perhaps not quite the same model...But, you definitely have to remove that engine pulley, and be very careful to install that spacer correctly or you will grind up the lower seal/crankcase cover....And yes, that damn large pulley must be removed...I'm stuck again at this point trying to get the little belt back over the variable pulley...Can't remember how I did that the last time....
Go to mtdparts and type in your model number and you'll get a IPL illustrated parts diagram, you can find out. This was a customers so I don't remember.
Anyone know what length Deck drive belt I'll need for a white outdoors LT1500 42 inch cut? Mine looks very similar to the mower in this video. Tried a 74 inch but was quite a bit too long.
Informative enough to tell me I need to take my White to the local small engine/mower shop and have them replace the belts. Thank you very much!
Really enjoy watching your videos
No wasted time and to the point
Others just run there heads for longer video and zero information
Always take pictures before you start pulling things apart, then you will know how to put it together again.😊😊
I use aA snap and it works great and on /off quick

Where does the small spring attach to? It’s about 4 inches long?
Nice trick with the tape saved you a lot of time on this belt change.
Thanks for taking the video!

Hello I have a Poulan Pro riding mower and I have a Serpentine belt on the drive or smaller belt on my CVT.

If the pulls turns at the transmission but the tractor will not move, what could be the problem?

Good luck, and thanks for watching!
Is that a 42 inch for the upper one? The one for the drive belt?
