it's fair to say a youtuber tests the light in a dark room like 99% of them do because a sony a7s 3 and a candle can still look decent, but also did a daylight test which is very fair I applaud you for that.
Using smallrig's PD charger for this light you can charge the battery fairly quickly. I've not measured it but I don't think it takes longer than an hour to charge
When you can get an Amaran 60x for the same price which has a Bowens mount and Sidus app, there isn't much reason to mess with these other lights that use proprietary mounts. The internal battery is cool but if you're meant to use it with a power bank anyway then the NPF plate on the Amaran is basically the same thing
yeah I could see that point but as i tried to demonstrate the battery bank and light combo is still smaller than the npf solution. Again this wouldn't replace a larger light with a bowens mount and wall power but maybe more so compliment it. Thanks for watching!
The big win for me for the Smallrig is removal of potential failure points. With run and gun shooting, forgetting a dtap to barrel connecting cable or even the vmount can mean a delay in shooting. Hell you can even use the light as is even without the reflector and just bounce if off a white surface at full power to get a nice soft effect. Owning 3 Amaran 60x and also Zhiyun Molus g60's while doing a lot of a south Asian wedding shooting, I am salivating at the bits for this light. Our turnaround from location to location makes putting up, breaking down, etc a little annoying and prone to potential failure points. The Amarans are okay since the mounts on the side, though using anything larger than a 99 vmount tends to make it a little off balanced. For this light I envision the onboard battery can save a pretty nice hassle. In fact, I've also been using the Zhiyun fiveray 40, and the onboard battery on that and how easy and quick is wonderful. Only cavaet is not being able to put a bowens mount softbox on it. This light looks like it could be a winner, but it is based on the price of the softbox when it comes out. I absolutely adore the mini softbox that Zhiyun gives with the Molus, and that's the main reason that one is the winner right now over the Amaran for prep work. For reception and cocktail hour, the Amarans are easier to setup and Sidus is AMAZING. Even with a built in battery, I don't think the Smallrig has enough pros to replace the Amarans in that situation.
I love the Zhiyun MOLUS G60 Light 2700K-6500K Bi-Color 60W Pocket-Sized Continuous Output Lighting COB LED. It is amazing. My only issue is that it’s not battery powered but it does exactly what the Smallrig does. It has great accessories as well.
Yeah I bet that light is pretty similar, I can definitely see smallrig releasing other accessories for this light as well as a bowens mount adapter soon
Most mini lights like this don't have bowens mounts, in fact they need an adapter to bring the larger size of bowens to the smaller fixtures like this, I'm sure smallrig will come out with an adapter for it eventually.
I think the wall charger that you're using doesn't support PD fast charging. It would be impossible to take 24H to charge cause the built-in battery just 48Wh. Mine can be fully charged within an hour
I think the big deal about this light is it's size. If it had a standard Bowens mount, the light itself would become bigger to accommodate the larger accessories. For myself the size is more important for its portability. Also, I believe there are mini-Bowens to standard-Bowens adapters. Otherwise my Godox SL60w has the standard mount if needed.
There are a few factors that disappoint me and push me away from this light. The biggest being no app control. I have other small rig lights and this would be a great addition to that kit. Surprised it's not on the app. Also,The fact that it doesn't come with the proprietary softbox and that you have to make an additional purchase is annoying. So you'll eventually have to buy the Bowens mount adapter anyway.
It can be controlled by the SmallGoGo app. Also they are still developing a bowens mount adapter and just waiting for the launch of the mini softbox. This will be a very portable and powerful tool.
just got mine & did a quick shoot outside Ill say they did die (to about 45%) after about an hour at like 60% each but they only took like 1-2 hours to fully charge (Used Apple MacBook UsbC Charger)
Most mini lights like this don't, if it did it wouldn't be mini anymore. But like most other brands I'm sure smallrig with release a bowens mount adapter soon
Love your vids but 2 of your cons are off. 1) It supports PD charging. Smallrig even sells a 100W charger for it. 2) Smallrig has an app to control these lights wirelessly. Still enjoyed your video though 👍
The major downside of this light to me is the internal battery, i bought zyhune 100c and the battery broke within 5 months and now the light doesn't work
Hello, nice and very useful review. I am a wedding photographer and usually i need 2 Lights infront of the couple in a distance about 4 metres from them. Do you thing the power of those lights will be enough to light them correct?
Proprietary mount? The quality of the RUclipsrs reviewers is getting attrocious these days. Dude, you are making a review and you are calling MINI BOWENS MOUNT, proprietary?! Cheesh, that's so misleading. There are literally 10 tons of mini bowens to full bowens adapters that sells for $10-15 and I'm using 120cm bowens softbox in my product photography setup with this exact light. Step up your game brah, educate yourself better, when trying to educate others.

I think the major down side is not having a Bowens mount. Other than that it looks great.
Thank you, now I don't have to watch the video and get excited as that's def a deal breaker!

@@videotuotannot2693 do you know of a mini light that has a standard bowens mount? Would kinda make it not mini anymore
@@NigelBarrosAmaran 60d & 60x
They sell the adapter

I agree!
I love that softbox.

I think that the biggest competition to this light is Ulanzi 40W. Its half the price and the power is more than half
just got mine & did a quick shoot outside

The listing say it comes with a Bowen's mount. Also, probably the biggest competition for this is the amaran stuff.
you really have to whaaaa
Yeah thanks bro for being honest the fan sound and no bluetooth made my mind up for me. Looks like the Ulanzi light design
Try using black trash bags on the ceiling above the places that you want to darken
It looks neat. I will look deeper for it. Thanks for the video
The only thing I hesitate with this light is the lack of app control. Do you miss it that much?
I wish it had a Bowens mount...

Taking advantage of black Friday is a good idea
i will keep my Nanlites after seeing this .nice video
Great video! Although i'll be honest you comparing it to the aperture 120D is a huge oversight

I know smallrig has an app to control their lights but this light doesn't have wireless connectivity.
Dude I need to up my setup to have a better talking / voiceover area with my videos. Love the smallrig gear, defs going to check this THANK YOU.
its pretty sweet if you like keeping your kit small!
The major downside of this light to me is the internal battery, i bought zyhune 100c and the battery broke within 5 months and now the light doesn't work
I love my Ulanzi 40w!
What are you playing on the guitar? Haha, great video
A G chord! 😂
was just strumming some charlie crockett haha

Nah.
added it to my shopping cart...then heard you say not bowens compatible. bummer. back out of the cart
wait what? 7:48 LOL
same paid infomercial from smallrig as every other youtuber 'showcasing' this light.
I love Smallrig products, love the fact it has a battery built in.
me too, that's one feature that makes it pretty useful!
@@NigelBarros yeah 100% remote locations or traveling light seems a great situation for this
make it daylight only, remove battery and sell it for $150, done.
