Furnaces are way too many BTUs for an efficient house. They are built to be oversized

It's amazing that this topic between Heat Pumps and Furnaces has awakened some die hards for one system or the other. I guess we have to remember that everyone has a different experience based on geographical location and norms for their area. Experienced HVAC professionals need to make the best decision for their actual situation and location. These videos are provided to bring awareness to the differences, but those differences can look differently from another's perspective. Thanks for watching.

      get a smaller furnace??

When mentioning fossil fuel, how we suppose to power heat pump?
Using electricity. Where are we getting it?
Right, by burning fossil fuel at power plant.
Wind and solar sources are not having big impact.
Regarding using heat pump on ducted system, let say in Canada.
Supply air temperature getting really low by the time air reaches duct outlets.
People complain that system isn't able to keep temperature in the house and running almost all day.
So for split system it is still can work but ducted in cold climate is problematic.

You're correct. Heat Pumps are not as effective in really cold weather, while furnaces provide whatever BTU's they're rated for. The use of Heat Pumps are heavily encouraged in California because of the Governors policies, so we're seeing more projects requesting electrification. Thanks for the comment.

@MEPAcademy I can see it, and California's weather is good for HP.
Bottom line- all coming to politics.

I live in the Rural Northeast and have a split system Pump / Propane that cuts off at 40f degrees. My elec bill was so high when I had it on 25f and my house was chilly. Heat pumps are a good gap between 40-60 degrees . They do not heat larger houses well below that.

You're right, Gas is better at very low temperatures because electrical sourced Heat Pumps become derated at lower temps, while gas is consistent on its output.@@AN-jz3px

@@MEPAcademy every house near and far should have access to clean, effective and efficient natural gas delivered safely in pipeline networks coast to coast.
