The character design, animation and voice acting is what makes this anime so funny. It's hard to believe that the 3 main VAs for the girls were all newcomers with very little experience
Koko-chan (Kasumi's VA) got some really good roles like Fujiwara Chika from Love is War and even Roxy from Mushoku Tensei. But honestly, her role here shows off her skills pretty well. These girls went off.

I'm so happy that Asobi Asobase is finally getting the recognition it deserves! When I watched it back in 2018, nobody was talking about it, and it's such a great anime! It has a very unique sense of humor with lots of references. I stumbled upon your channel by accident and I'm rewatching the anime along with you guys, and I'm glad to see you all cracking up
Hagoita is a traditional Japanese paddle-board used to play a shuttlecock hitting game during New Years. During the Edo period, they were decorated by images of popular kabuki actors. Of course, you hit the shuttlecock with the back of the board. And if you didn’t catch on, the card game they were playing was a parody of Yugi-oh cards, with the rare card being a reference to the Blue-eyes White Dragon. The make-up scene was the funniest for me this episode. ^__^
Hagoita(羽子板) Roughly speaking, traditional Japanese badminton. Little girls usually do it. A ball with feathers is hit back with a wooden racket. It is a kind of lucky ritual to wish for a lucky future for women. It has the meaning of easily repelling bad luck like a light feather.🙂
Asobi= play Asobase= word that old japanese lady used. it means Polite way to say "do" So it is politely let’s play! 昔は「する」の代わりに「あそばせ（≠遊ばせ）を使ってた。 例:お行きあそばせ、お楽しみあそばせ
