Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.
Wasn’t it also fear that made the apostles deny Jesus, not just pride? Humans are often cowards in the moment of loving their neighbour vs loving ourselves. Look at the Jews in 1933 Germany. There was nothing special about being German. We take the easy and safe road and become strangers to our fellow humans to protect our own skins, those of our family, in final analysis, unless we are saints.
Lord have mercy.
