So it was for a couple of my friends to compare. I have a new goldring cart that sounds a bit off and a friend sent me his to see what the difference was. Theres a well used goldring cart in the first video, my new goldring cart in the second video thats exactly the same model (both playing on the abbots) and then the doublets with my cart. I buggered up though because the doublets are not volume matched, they are quite a bit lower than the abbots. I plan to do a multi song comparison, volume matched between them so it’s a fair fight. The doublets are a funny speaker, really forgiving of recordings but they have quite a engaging sound still, very musical and easy to listen to with a huge powerful sound.
Flrst sounds most dynamic and detailed, second is a touch more laid back without moving too from the 1st sound. Third sounds most coloured and dull or mellow depending on your sound preference. My order of preference 1st, 2nd, and a long way behind, 3rd but of course taste is subjective
First seemed to have a lot more detail. Second was definitely more laid back. Which is better would depend on your taste I guess. For me I don’t mind laid back sound
Please give list of products that u use in each of your video as there are more things in viewer life to do than to spend alot of time try find the products u use in a video. Btw the first sound sample more close to realistic sound(better sound)
Apologies, ill be sure to list them in the future. In this video Speakers - Royd Abbots and Royd Doublets Amp - Exposure 21 pre and 18 super power Turntable - Modified Ariston RD80 with rega rb250 tonearm and goldring 1042 cart Pre amp - project phono box s3 Cables - ixos 102 interconnects and chord clearway x speaker cables
The whole video was an experiment to see if there was a noticeable difference between 1 and 2, they are the same model cartridge but two different cartridges. I have had a feeling cart number 2 was possibly faulty.
Its ok, please dont feel so bad. Thank so2 much for the list. You got the answer 'of mine' which sound better (my prefered sound... big, clear, real life size, out of speaker sound).
That would be the Abbots with a well run in goldring 1042 cart, without a doubt the most detailed open sound. Abbots are a really exiting fast speaker with my gear.
Guess what. They sound like.... here it comes.... the headphones I use to listen to or the speakers I use! So we have everything you use to produce sound, the cables you use out to the speakers, type of cables you use to connect everything. Then we have the room. Then we have the mic you use. Then we have the program you use and god knows what compression and upload to youtube. Then we have system I use to produce sound with cables, noice cancel, power washers, etc etc, room, and last the speakers or headphones. And most important the ears. I used the Dynaudio 60i speakers, Electrocompaniet AW600 class A monoblocks, Electrocompaniet EC 4.8 MKII as pre, Auralic VEGA G2.2 as D/A converter, ISOTEK EVO3 NOVA as a power cleaner, CHORD EPICX 2XLR as XLR cables, PS Audio PerfectWave AC- 12 as power cables. Ergo the sound you give me or whatever you record WILL sound warm since I use the AW600 pure class A amps. If you add in everything else... you tell me how your recording sounds at my place... But what I can tell you is from the dynamic range I would go for the first recording cause you can clearly hear it is more defined. But sound wise only you can tell since you are sitting there in the room with the soundsystem.
Yeah we all know this already your correct, it’s a bit of fun tbh. You can pick up on the difference in sound to a degree and thats all that was intended. Also by you picking the first video it shows that you can hear the difference between a cart thats well run in and the exact same cart thats brand new after all of these limitations so that says it all really, system, cables, headphones etc its still audible. 👍🏻
And to think if Russell hadn't posted this demonstration, you might not have been able to relay your impressive setup. Love to know what you upgraded to the Nova from, and after the audition, why you decided to keep it. Epic on the XLR's. I was just wondering if you are running Epic on your speaker cables also, and if not, then why not. Cheers
@@Antibackgroundnoise To be honest I went from nothing to the Nova simply because I did belive it was kinda bullshit the whole "clean your power" thing. That was until a buddy of mine who has a "better system" than I have went and got one. The bastard was smart and did hide it so I did not see it 😅 Then I sat down and listen to music and I was "what in the world... The overall calm and "blackness" and the parts where there is no sound was so silent it was not normal" I was going what in the world have you done.. And when he went "tada" I was sold. Since that was a 100% blind test and I did not know. So the Nova is my first step 🙂 I use Chord Sarum T as speakers cables. Had the Nordost Heimdall 2 before but for my ears the tweeter on the i60 went to bright for me. The Chords calmed it down more than enough and also gave more details overall.
@BattleGroundElite thanks for the reply. One more question if I may... if you were to close your eyes and press pause (or mute) and from the MLP, are you able to differentiate whether the system is on or off. Cheers
@@Antibackgroundnoise Sorry for a veeeeeery late reply. No you will not. When I hit pause or stop it's dead silent. If I put my ear about 5 - 6 cm from the tweeter then I can hear the electronic noise from the speakers since there is no way for me to remove "noise" from the electronics inside the speakers. But from normal listening distance. No chance in hell to hear anything from the sound system. I hear my own breathing and heart beat.
It's always nice to see space given to the stereos.
Doublets have to my ear more depth and sound less strained, the abbots have more attack but I like the softer nature of the doublets
CAn't wait to listen to this a little later with my headphones on. I'll give you my thoughts when the time comes. :)

How do we know when each speaker is playing? Do you have a licence to play this track?
It’s in the description. No i don’t have a license, I don’t aim to make any money from my videos, they all have a copyright claim.
First marks, second marks..., what does that mean? The video plays through as normal
@@russellparker4568 it's not money, it's copyright. I always get videos taken down when I include copyrighted music. Sometimes you get away with it.
When the track restarts from the beginning it’s the next example. Im no expert at this it was originally only made to just show two of my friends.
Ive never had a video taken down
