Thanks for passing on the message Claire :) Really enjoyed the interview, always great to reinforce his core teachings. The upcoming projects sound cool! I've got a pad under my desk in my office where I'll regularly be stretching my hip flexors out. I'll find it hard going back into an office now, people will think I'm bonkers haha.

Ha ha ha it's so hard in an office isn't it, if only it was culturally normal for everyone to bob up and down doing yoga moves and stretches every hour or so in an office! Bonkers that it isn't really! Let's start a campaign!

Good interview, there seemed to be a lot of sensible stuff in there. Running should be smooth and easy, like a graceful dance, that allows the elasticity benefits. We've been around for 2 million years as endurance runners/walkers without any real change below the neck for the last 2 million years, it's just natural for us but maybe we overthink things. And I think there would often have been more running & walking than a half marathon, we had to push the prey to heat exhaustion. We don't generally spend much (any?) time building foot strength, which he does touch on, some people spend a lot of time on S&C but ignore their feet. Not sure about the tripod landing idea though, I've always thought we should forefoot land and then the heel may come down almost immediately after. A bit like cadence varies with pace, so how the foot lands varies with pace so at some pace maybe tripod landing comes in (again he touched on that variation, but for with sprinting). Lots to think about.

Glad you liked it Chris, it would be so interesting if Shane produced a film showing all the running styles throughout the world wouldn't it, slowed down so we could see the intricate details. Fascinating stuff.

@@wildgingerruns , it would be Claire. It occurred to me after writing the comment that we might automatically adjust for hard or soft ground. On hard ground a forefoot landing absorbes the shock and helps retain elastic energy, but that's less imporant on soft ground that absorbs some of the the impact shock and the elastic energy. Something to think about the next time you're on the fells!
