Save and wait until the hero you want is in a limited time event (magic wheel, treasure hunt, dragon egg, holidays events) so you maximize your diamonds and get bonus hero cards from that event. It takes time but will be far more worth it than spending diamonds on anything else when getting started.
I see you dont know the dragon prayer trick to stacking up free prayers every day. All you do is normal pray on manual prayer the 5 times for gold until its to much for you to spend (everyones different)and it wont spend ur free daily prayer. You know how you randomly get free prayer chances when praying? Well guess what they auto stack on top of the free one you get every day. There you go now you can stack 1-4 free prayers a day and save them until the prayer event to maximize you prayer books and stack them for lvling other heroes. Your welcome 👍🙂
