The front of the face where the light hits has a lot more detail than the hair and ear. Theres a lot more balance between the smooth blending and hard edges I would just clean the ear and hair up a little bit more. The piece already looks great tho dont get me wrong, just a few spots I think stand out.

      @Carolsnewssubs 2 месяца назад +21

He’s taking the more logical approach theoretically on how light and shadow works. Beginner artists tend to ignore those thinking it’s their stylistic choice. Deep down they know there’s something wrong in their works, but too prideful to notice and learn from mistakes.

Style and lack of skills are two different things. you can have an art style but you can't ignore how light and shadow and anatomy works, especially if you're drawing something "realistically" or "semi realistically" while drawing existing unrealistic cartoons is a different thing

@Carolsnewssubs They’re clearly not a beginner artist. in this case it looks to be a stylistic choice. Here, he just changed it to match his style and it looks better before. Not everyone wants to draw this way. In my opinion, the before looks better and the saturation looks strange.

i think this person was more focused on changing the hair technique and anatomy than the colors, though this is nice too.
i can’t really go much into depth in a youtube comment, but compare the left side of her face with the reference photo, mostly the silhouette, and you’ll see the problem
her skull is a bit too big for her, and the eyes look tilted on the face
using the grid method, learning how to use guidelines, or both will help you create an accurate sketch before rendering.
also, be careful when rendering, especially when you’re making something really realistic like this. be sure to stick with the sketch you’ve made, and don’t change ANYTHING about the anatomy. i do this a lot too: i end up getting so caught up in rendering realistically that i accidentally change the sketch and proportions, and the drawing looks funky
as for the hair, the colors are a bit muddy too
i see that they added the shadows for the hair in lines, which is good, but hair also has highlights too. adding highlights with lines just like this person did with the shadows of the hair will make the hair look less blocky. adding some messy strands outside the hair shape is also a good way to make the hair look realistic
i am by no means an expert, just someone who likes art, so please correct me if i’m wrong, or if you want to add anything to my explanation

i do love how stylistic and painterly the original is, but the edit is also pretty with more realistic, less hard edge more blurry, lighting. both are very good in different ways. i will say the original could use more saturation to add more contrast and the amount of saturation you added diverted a little too much from what i feel the original was going for, still beautiful either way. thank you for teaching us once again!

I really love the style of this drawing and the eyes ☺️ regardless of the saturation helping, that artist is very talented

I love how this guy does this compared to other artists, especially how he says “improve this” instead of “fix this.” There’s way more appreciation in his content than in most of other people’s. He always makes sure to point out “I like how you did this, I see what you were doing: here’s what I would do in this case”.

i don’t know, i think over saturation also kills the balance of colors. less is more. both versions are good

I love this saturation tip lol. after I saw one of your videos I looked at one of my drawings and noticed this like "tf? why does everything look so colorless?"

I'd say it depends on what the drawing is trying to communicate. My guess is nothing and it's just practice, but I prefer the sickly white light and less saturated colors in the first one.

That additional orange shading was unnecessary for me cuz the background lighting didn't have such warm colour source

It looks great after, but I personally liked the background better when it was clear. Jaw dropping artwork though, the tips definitely helped it.

The lighting is closer on the first one and the coloring, even though that spot looked "muddy", I think that if it were touched up some more, it would have been a closer color.

the colours looked more accurate to the reference than the after though. the ref's colours definitely arent that saturated, it makes the after look off. the green particularly looks way worse after than before... i think this artist should have just blended it more so it doesnt give this "muddy" look to it, but thats it. its already a very beautiful drawing.
