ANY zr2 is better than NO ZR2 but I gotta say I'm SO surprised that SO many ZR2 buyers are not going with the Lil duramax!??? As somebody that has been a jeep Wrangler Rubicon owner many times over, I love my 4:1 transfer case, my front and rear locking differentials and their lower gears, The electronic disconnecting sway bar, making it one of the greatest off-road vehicles ever built. However as a Rubicon lover, my obvious gripe is the power plant, oh how I would love to have A little Cummins option that has been promised for so many years by Chrysler. So when the ZR two came out and they mentioned a Duramax option I thought, no brainer, the reliability testing alone is worth the purchase not to mention torque. , Gas mileage, oh and did I say reliability? The durability lifetime tests I was amazed at how much longer life and mileage the Duramax saw over it's gas sister. But still people keep going with the gasser.? I would love to get a ZR two when they come down I hair and will 100% go Duramax. Not hating on the gas or's, the fact that any of you bought a ZR two is beyond enough of a fact that you were all bad asses! As well as smart consumers. Just putting in my two cents as dreaming of a Duramax with factory locking Diffs! By the way I live in Utah just north of Moab, you guys need to get out here and hit slick rock. I did live in Michigan for a while on a church mission and then went to school at the university of Michigan, I absolutely miss the upper Peninsula "U.P." You lucky dog!
I went to U of M as well, '13 Econ! If we make it out there can you show us around? I'd like to make a trip out in the fall. You are absolutely correct about the duramax, mine is tuned/deleted and it is the perfect powerplant for these trucks. I can still do high-speed stuff as well. I do with they had electronic disconnecting swaybars but ours can be removed fairly easily. I expect to run this truck for 250k+ miles so I deleted it at 10k.
Lingenfelter Zee Ohh Six the emissions systems hinders those diesels. I wanted one but saw a lot of people having problems with them.
the diesel zr2 motors are'nt that reliable and burn oil.
racer2k5x they’ve been around for over a decade and I have not heard of any issues. Care to elaborate? Always want to stay informed.
Fan fuses blow, starter connections break off and you cant start, def injectors are hit and miss, if you drive it hard or offroad it alot (put the motor through any sort of non normal people driving) you will burn oil, sometimes have an issue where you go into regen mode back to back to back, most motor problems start to develop whithen the 3500-5000 mile mark and accelerator cable sometimes is faulty
I would love a channel that does stuff like this. Every channel that does always have Toyota’s. I prefer a bow tie!
Awesome ride a long video! Thanks, for taking us with you on your journey!
I remember as a kid watching the Fred troust hunting show he would always talk about game taking on Drummond Island oh how I miss Michigan I grew up by traverse City.
Great video...I'm still looking at the ZR2 and it helps to see real world action when trying to decide, Thanks!
You will absolutely love it- the ride, handling and powertrain are far superior to the Tacoma and it has locking front and rear diffs, it is unbelieveable what they can do and I still havn't gotten stuck yet once
I thought MI was just Flint and Detroit. 😉
Gorgeous out there. As Lingenfelter Zee Oh Six said, Utah is awesome. Come on out!
Driving thru the water was my favorite spot on the trails
Cool video, Drummond Island is such a cool place and saw so many off road trucks and Colorados there when i was up over memorial weekend! Only so much I could do in a stock F-150. Also at 9:25 min mark I ended up on that rocky trail and was very cool. Turned around as it was getting a little rough for me.
They are very rocky in places! Thank you for watching, we are going to the Upper Peninsula this weekend so there should be some more content on a regular basis hopefully going forward. Brave going to Drummond in a stock F-150!
Sweet looking forward to the videos! But yes stayed on a lot of dirt roads and some trails that I knew I could turn around on if need be and so I did lol But yes i was mainly worried about the stock tires they have with how sharp some of those rocks are!
Drummond is why I run 10 ply tires (E) that weight 65 lbs each and are "only" 33"
Cars, cats AND cannabis?! I like 2 out of 3 of these things... Subscribed!
That looks like so much fun! Would love to take my H3T through trails like that.
Love it! Makes me wish I lived in Wisconsin still. Need more ZR2 meets here in North Carolina now!
cant wait to hit the U.P. this fall in my ZR2.....my 2000 ZR2 lol. I'd kill for a new one though
Next time you go to Drummond be sure and stop in Cedarville on the way. I buddy of mine owns a brewery/distillery there called Les Cheneaux Distillers. They have a tasting room/restaurant. Just a couple blocks off 134
Sounds awesome, the Les Cheneaux are beautiful, we visit by boat annually
Just found your channel and I am loving the ZR2 Videos. I would love to go on this trail without the water.
LilRayRay thanks! Exactly why I make them, so people can see what is out there to do. Before I found this truck I never had any idea! Urs6e24 on coloradofans.com PM me
Love the new ZR2’s, I’m hoping to pick one up soon.
PM me on coloradofans.com at urs6e24 if you have any questions. The diesel is awesome! The trucks are awesome, it is unbelieveable what they will do stock.
Cars, Cats & Cannabis are there tunes out for the diesel yet. 195hp isn’t a lot.
Yes, I had a duramaxtuner.com tune before I deleted that went up to 215/440 and my truck is deleted and tuned now. 230hp 450tq now in tune 4. I drive in econ tune tune 1.
Still enough to climb and tow and that's all I need it for
That squeak that starts at 16:10 could be from your rear brakes needing proper lubrication. I had the squeak and the brake lube tactic seemed to work
the brakes themselves or the lines? I noticed the lines are pretty short
The brakes themselves
wiifire8
I had the same thing. Just lube the brake grease / service points behind the pads. That awful annoying squeeze is gone. These are incredible trucks
You may have covered it and I missed it. What leveling kit did you use for your truck? Also, what type of trimming did you need to do (if any) to keep your 33's from rubbing. Nice rig! Thanks!
Any idea where that squeaking noise around the 16:10 mark is coming from??? My ZR2 sounds identical when going over rough terrain. Haven’t been able to pinpoint where the noise is coming from though 🤷🏽♂️
9:09 ish, just brushing the balls. Good feeling in the ZR2. I like it! 420
can't wait to get out there with you guys next time
The last in the final line up. Rc 1 inch level on 28570r17 bfg At's.
You've inspired me to get the zr2 diesel!
Good to hear, you will love it! Let me know if you need any information on deleting. You'll want 589fab.com shock skids at least to start!
l”am in the process of buying a Chevy cannon ZR2 but l”am having trouble deciding whether to get a gas or diesel some say that the diesels are not reliable and break down a lot as they get older where as the gas engine they say is more reliable who do you believe l”am looking toward the diesel for its torque and gas mileage just not sure......awesome video thanks for sharing
I have 32k miles on my diesel and LOVE it. It has been deleted and tuned since 10k miles and the improvement deleted is noticeable. Stock it was still fine, but tuned it has 215hp/440tq and it rips! It will keep up with a stock gasser almost, but not quite. I highly recommend the diesel but the gassers are great too.
Real shame gm thought the power numbers on that 2.8l were up to par. love diesels but even with a tune they're way down compared to other baby diesels. Never been a mid size truck lover but these zr2's are really sweet.
I''m at 220hp/480tq with 4.10 gears and I can say I am not wanting for power. It makes a HUGE difference with delete/gears/tune.
Outstanding video !
thanks so much! many more to come
been there it's nice there the upper pensula is cheap too live but no jobs
Another great video !
Very good truck
the ZR2 bison will be pretty sweet!
Awesome video! Drummond Island looks really beautiful. Is the offroading something a beginner in an unmodified jeep wrangler or 4x4 truck could do?
Jordan Picking yes and absolutely! Message me with any questions.
You should get high idle mode for your diesel It's not good to idle a diesel engine for too long at low rpm It washes the cylinders with fuel and cuts down on lubrication
you are so wrong its sick. Then why do semi's idle all night? Why do work truck diesels idle all day like pipe line welders etc? You are brain cancer.
Devon Kelly he’s not wrong. Old diesels you could idle forever. The new ones with emissions shit are not good to idle forever. High idle is a must with newer diesels with emission bullshit. Best thing to do is delete them from the start.
Hi. I have 2018 Chevrolet Colorado 4WD Crew Cab 128.3" LT ! tell me where did you buy bed cap and which company...???
Very cool. Any way you could list the tire/wheel and level setup of all the trucks? It might stave off questions from people later on. Great video though
Grant p 35” Falken M/T on fuel +7mm 17x8.5” rims, 285/70 32.6” General GrabberX/3 on stock wheels, stock 265/65r17 duratracs, 265/70 31.6” Falken Wildpeak A/T on method wheels and 285/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2s if I recall correctly in that order.
Grant p X2 that would be informative. Like all mods (at least to your ZR2).
mods in description, tires added above. Thanks for asking! If you want mod information, watch my walkaround video, it goes over everything! ruclips.net/video/do4pp2KL3Q4/видео.html
What’s the winch setup on the silver ZR2? Im kinda liking that style along with the CBI half bumper.
My owners manual states not to drive in water over the hubs or it will void the warranty. These new trucks have way too much electronics.
I don't care about any warranty.
Good for you!
351WINCHESTER good to know. That will definitely impact my decision on going with this or a tacoma. ...i'll check with toyota to see what voids their warranties.
Justyy4u I talked with my dealer and 351winchester is completely incorrect, it DOES NOT void the warranty.
Cars, Cats & Cannabis thank you for looking into that for me, it seems as if the zr2 is still a possibility
Love the name...we’ll leave it at that😎
Is your front driver fender flare separating from the body? Awesome video btw!
BluezTube_Guitar_Music no it is not thankfully and thank you! Much more to come, I’m actually getting a go pro soon so the content will be much more varied.
awesome! Can't wait!
Very cool! What city do you live in? I have a ZR2 and live in Grand Rapids. I was just in the U.P. a couple weeks ago, did some 2 tracking around Taquaminon falls. You guys ever meet up at Silver lake?
TC, we are planning a silver lake meet soon!
I lived in Grand Rapids until a few months ago. I saw only one ZR2. Do you see many? I've seen only 2 on the road in this whole state.
I saw 2 in Grand Rapids so far. My buddy in Muskegon has one. Yeah not very many surprisingly.
I know of two others in TC, still not too many around. Cool how you can see the aggressive cutout front bumper from a mile away.
Dumb question, where or what is TC. I'm close to Port Huron, MI. Looking for some ZR2 buddies.
Nice video man.
did you use in any time front or rear wheel locker
Damn getting some good views on this
I'm excited to get some new content this weekend at the dunes with the gimbal/gopro/remote controlled mount for top of truck. I'll be able to pan remotely from inside the vehicle, assuming I can execute my plan
Looks fun but invest in some go pros would ya! 🤣
Did you have to do any mods to your vehicle to put 33s on?
Front level was all. Trimmed my front rear fender plastic and pinch weld
Dig your videos, man!
thank you!
I got over $8000. Off my ZR2 at Ourisman Chevy , Bowie Md. worth the trip 😆, Steve McClay sales ez discount 😄
my friend excellent day, I want to put to my truck some rims bf Goodrich the all terrain in the measure 285/70 r17, stick somewhere? Tank's
we own the 2018 model zr2 and only 13000 km been in the shop 11 times now and has never left pavement all electrical issues. been stranded 2 times now with it ....being in Canada there is no lemon law ....fuel pump and ECM and fuel injector and starter motor and rear thrust alignment was built out wrong from factory and stability track died, the rear door dont shut rite passengers always think door did not close. have not made it more then 2000km without issue
gas or diesel? sorry to hear about that, best of luck!
gas. thanks
Guy I know has V6 colorado, been through 3 torque converters and passenger door doesn't shut right. All under warranty, only 20k miles
Your audio levels are very inconsistent
working on a better solution, thank you for the feedback!
Need axle vents to be relocated for that water
speterbilt the ZR2s are relocated to about the height of the battery, so I had about 24” more to go before that would have been an issue. That being said, probably wouldn’t keep going if water was that deep.
@@CarsCatsCannabis when it rains do you find water in the intake?
I subbed just because of the name of your channel alone.
TheeJoeyLee much more to come as things progress ;)
Cars, Cats & Cannabis You better!
What are you get for fuel mileage with your current setup
24 city 21 hwy
Did you run the full delete with the 31’s and stock suspension? If so what was your mileage like that? I haven’t been able to find a solid answer anywhere for this with the ZR2
I was deleted with stock tires in the middle of this past winter and got 22mpg but I had to warm up my truck for 10min on every start, and winter diesel. You can expect to see 25-27mpg deleted on stock everything on a ZR2 and 30-32mpg on a normal Colorado.
Awesome, thanks for the info
Cool. Looking at one of these trucks in next couple weeks. Thinking of a 19 in crush color. I'd like to get the bds and run 35s. I really like the diesel but wonder which.is best. I commute daily 80 miles hyw round trip a day to work. So 400 a week all hyw. Then on weekends we run around a lot too. Wont be hard core but like the looks with 35s and the 4 in bds. Just wondering if gas or diesel would be better? I had a 16 diesel z71 Colorado and it did great but wonder about lift and 35s
Monte Beerbower Diesel would be 100x better for you
its tuned/deleted and you would have the torque to run 35s no problem and would still get 20+ mpg. Try that in a raptor.
diesel would be 1000x better! You'll get way better fuel economy as well, more torque. Diesel is for you.
Nice !
is this the same diesel as on Ram?
Tomas Tylecek No, this is a 2.8L 4 cylinder. Ram is 3.0L V6. Mine is tuned and deleted and is putting out around 220hp/440tq
That’s some deep water yaw are going through.
Wait until we go back in the fall! This was the least water anyone has ever seen there. Typically another couple feet.
How has it held up going through the water?
totally fine, I was in water even deeper last November and it was below freezing. brrrrrr
what kind of bed cap do you have?
ARE v-series with aluminum windoors, contractor t-handles, carpeted inside, drivers side toolbox, led rope lighting and sliding front window. about 3500.
Do you know if you have to regear with the 35s
GETTHATJOINT gaming you do not have to but it is recommended for gassers at least. I believe he plans to regear to 4.56 soon.
Cars, Cats & Cannabis Ok thanks for replying
FYI would be careful using the video camera or phone while crossing the big bridge. they like to hand out really big tickets for that. and the Audio really sucked could hardly hear you kept turning volume up and down.
My passenger was filming that segment - working on a better audio solution going forward.
What lift you have on the Colorado zr2
It is leveled in the front 1" is all. ZR2s are lifted 2" from the factory over a standard Colorado and are 3" wider.
great video but you need to speak up! lol you sure do have alot of lights on your dash
Aev makes a snorkel for the zr2? Be careful bout going though that deep of water man.the truck can take it but the electrical for the 4x4 cant. I'm bout to have to junk my truck my 4x4 hardly works. 6 dealership trips and they cant fix it and I went though water bout as deep as what you did. Two months later my truck was locked in to 4x4 high and the service 4x4 popped up on my screen and wont go away cant get it out of 4x4. I'm taking it Wednesday morning and dropping it off at the dealership and stopping my payments. So watch out lol
tactical 23 guns & reviews we took 7 ZR2s through deeper water than that stock last year literally six times through the same trails and everyone was fine. You are correct it should be avoided if possible but in Drummond you never know what you’ll run into. Good luck with your repair!
Dielectric grease anything that has a plug. Trust me I've been doing it 4x4 quads for years now. It will save you a lot of headaches.

You have three of these?
Jay K no, there were 5 of us up there. I own one.
Cars, Cats & Cannabis lol OK I was gonna say. Damn great truck though. I just got one two months ago? You get a lot of rattling sounds in the cab?
Jay K no rattles to speak of. I have vinyl floor optioned, not sure if they makes a difference
Who sells those tie rod sleeves?
www.merchant-automotive.com/10512_Stailess_Steel_Tie_Rod_Sleeves_LWN.aspx
I want one
ml
Ya didn't even hit the stair case
Nicholas Hollow next time! We go to Marblehead every other visit it seems, lots to explore when you only have one full day over a weekend wheeling trip.
@@CarsCatsCannabis I live on the island year round. I had to laugh watching you guys crawl around on trails I tear down going 35 in my SxS.
@@nicholashollow9410 but do you have a 9 lb Siberian cat with you? Probably not...
I could follow you in my stock Nissan Frontier pro4x and it’s almost half the price new and IMO a better truck too great video though
No you won't, not without locking differentials front and rear and more ground clearance, which the ZR2 could use more of too.
Cars, Cats & Cannabis the frontier 4 X pro has locking rear differentials. Locking front differentials are rarely if ever needed, and only in extreme situations. On a truck with an independent front suspension, they can actually do more harm than good. As far as ground clearance the Nissan Frontier 4x Pro has about 8.9 inches of clearance, and 10 inches below the rear diff. I think that's actually a little better than the ZR2. It also has a slightly better approach angle, and comes with 32 inch tires stock. I think he would have been just fine. And I don't own a frontier 4 X pro. I'm a Tacoma man.
I'm referring to off-camera obstacles, we needed our front lockers big time.
don't mean to be rude but your audio is terrible I am sorry but can't here ninety percent of what you are saying.
are those trucks ISUZU 'S ?
Basically, yes.
If it was a honda you wouldnt have needed the oil pan. Just sayin
My stock wrangler Sahara could have done this lol
Actually, much less of a vehicle could have done what I filmed. I couldn't drive and film the more technical parts, I have a gopro for next time!
Were the fuck is the weed
My stock 1/2 ton ford, chevy, dodge polaris 5oo ranger grandpa's 250 Honda. And 1 1995 escort. Your pics make it look worse. Must be from detroit
Lol Cars cats and cannabis hahahahahahah
Accent is painful
Christopher Brady I have an accent!!!??? Sorry maybe I was too baked
What brand camper shell is that?
Check out my video here at 1:47 ruclips.net/video/do4pp2KL3Q4/видео.html
It is an ARE V series with aluminum windoors and contractor t-handles, drivers side toolbox, carpeted inside, led rope lighting and led dome light.
