Jesse Saunders On and On

- As the story goes, Jesse Saunders used to play REMIX BY MACH "ON AND ON" as part of his DJ sets in the early 80's. His copy of that record was stolen one night and he decided to use the loop from that track to create the very first house record on his very own newly formed label Jes Say records. The catalogue number for this release would be JS999. The first 500 copies were pressed with a black label with white text. The subsequent presses had a white label with black text. Jesse Saunders' version is regarded by many as being the first recorded house release. A genuine piece of Chicago House history from way back in 1984.

This is the first House Music disco in history. The House Music was born here.
That's not true. This is one of the first Chicago House tracks but Garage House Music existed few years before this.
Stop spreading misinformation
The original Mach's "On & On" was released in 1980.
Listen to this song that was mixed in 1976 and reply and see if you can make that same statement. Its called Ten Percent, a remix of a song by Double Exposure. I challenge you: ruclips.net/video/knWszyvMb_k/видео.html

Agreed
The birth of House Music.
I give thanks x
I love classic house music. It was the best era of House.
Astounding. This is definitely the first House record ever pressed. There was "house music" before it, meaning Frankie Knuckles mixed old disco with a drum machine live at the Warehouse, but this is the first house record ever made and recorded. I have searched and searched over the years. No one else even finished recording a house track before 1985, much less released it.
Seriously ,come on man this sounds like Kraftwerk's stuff from 1978s album The man Machine & 1981 Album Computer World,& it had samples from One More Shot ,Just Saying???
Yo...Eddie...it is the first house track that was pressed on vinyl!! Kraftwerk was a techno cut...get some education...sent with love!!

This is a true story of how house music was created. Amazing...
Happy 40 Years HOUSE MUSIC! ❤
Music defined me completely growing up. I was focused on the intricacies of music and dance the whole culture
The name "House", and where it came from is very important. It was derived from new style of music that was being played at The Warehouse. The sound was unique to that club. That sound was called House. Donna Summer was played, Mach was played, then 3-4 years later so was Jesse.
I've DJ'd for 18 years. I have perfect hearing. Tested 6 months ago, and the audiologist could not believe how 'tuned in' my hearing was. He said I could hear tones only a ten year old should be able to.
Chicago was absolutely the nr1 +++++++
The bassline is from Player 1's "Space Invaders" (1979), which took the bass sounds from the 1978 video game Space Invaders and "discofied" it.
"On & On" took that "Space Invaders" disco bassline and infused it with electro-funk, kick-starting the Chicago house movement.
This 39 years old track is still better than a lot of the music done today.
I miss the good old days of housing it up memories will never die.
This is history ♥

WBMX here in Chicago where the first to put a lot of house tracks on the air but if you wanted to hear some deep house you had to go to: The warehouse, the playground, the power plant, sauyers, AKA's and where I used to hear my dude Mr Ron hardy was at the music box!!!! RIP bro!!! Then WKKC and pink house stated " Friday nite audio and WGCI started they're set. But for me it all started on WBMX with the hot mix 5.
I need your help for finding a song. Sorry for my bad English knowledge, but I'am looking for a song which sounds like this song...there was also some trompets, I think it was a remix. My House-head friend recommended I listen Jesse to hear the roots of House. Awesome to hear the similarities to breakbeat. Makes sense as the fresh wave of dancers at the time would have been b-boys when House was first emerging.
This is a nice piece of dance music history.

Salute for this post! . . . 💯 for those of US who LIVED IT! . . . released vinyl produced by trailblazers like Marshall Jefferson (Umosia -We Are Unity), DJ Pierre of PHUTURE and Roy Davis Jr. (Angel's Calling on Strictly Rhythms). . . Many of us were familiar with the electronic jams (Kraftwerk, Kashif, Art of Noise, Planet Rock, Jellybean, etc.) and Hip-Hop playing on WBMX (Hot Mix 5), WKKC (Friday Night Audio), WHPK (Hip-Hop with J P Chill), WNUR (Deep House) from our B-Boy roots which made the transition to House easier when we hit The Music Box with Ron Hardy by 1985-86 (underground Michigan Avenue) and the launch of the Powerhouse with Frankie Knuckles and Steve Silk Hurley performing! . . . Some of the older B-Boys would go crash the House parties at spots like The Playground😂 . . . Along with the Roller Skate rinks, the B-Boys were told to stop dancing due to "liability" potential in reports from the New York Times about potential injuries (NO cap🧢) . . . . Rented Gymnasiums at Mendel, Hales Franciscan, Racquetball Club in Hyde Park as well as clubs and hotels like Medusas, Lamirage, CODs, Bismark, Congress Hotel, McCormick Place, etc. . . WE KNOW OUR ROOTS!

TB-303 brought me here! ❤️
Is there a 303 on this track?
I love when people come into comments and post stuff like they have an actual clue about Chicago in the 1980's. No disrespect to the Godfather Of House, and R.I.P Frankie, however when you look up "Your Love" by Jamie Principle, you will hear Knuckles most famous song without ONE single credit or mention. How bout' that?
+Frankie Bones absolutely true ...
I grew up in the Chi in the 80s..my older sibling spun when disco was in the clubs ..then came Italo from Europe...then came garage party house..after that freestyle..then acid.
Frankie Bones, Didn't Frankie Knuckles write, and mix Your Love?
Chicago came from the UK bro. Ask Marshall jefferson. ..he the man
Chicago was a shithole during the 1980's. No wonder why his record was stolen.

Magnificent
The shimmer arpeggio repeated melody is VERY Sylvester.
Same. Bass as. Mr Longfellow .. !! Z. Infamous tune ..
the bassline is from On and On by Mach
which came from Space Invaders
As far as I could find out all other house tracks back then were only recorded on tape. Vinyl was huge but these were all artists nobody knew (except the underground) that made their first track, half of them couldn't even play an instrument but recorded their tracks in their bedroom/basement/garage. The first "real" label releasing house records was trax & their first release is from 85.
Wow clasico !!!!
masterpiece
And House goes on!
House Music 🔥
IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS JAAAAACK!!!
HOUSE MUSIC FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So this is the origin of House Music? really closely to the underground artists i like... wow!
Your Love by Jamie Principle was indeed the first House Track, but it was only on cassette (and not to be found in any record store), copies of copies of copies from DJ sets...On & On was the first house track released on vinyl (and available to buy)...A version of your Love was pressed later on 1984...
on and on is not house because it's the wrong time of bassline………………………………………………………………………………...the bass on Your love is closer to house but more like British New wave………………………………………………………………………….ever think about MBO theme?
Who said Chicago ain't got talent 😂😂!
Interesting history
You are totally right, and besides that, House is named after "Wharehouse Club" where Saunders used to play.

this isn't house and maybe the first house song ever was the MBO theme song
1982
@@robinsss Mbo song is electronic disco Italian style
Now House started to really get its own sound when tunes like 'Can You Feel It' came out. That song sounds nothing, and I mean nothing, like Disco. From that point on, House not only had its own unique base, but also had its own unique sound. This is when House started to get popular. When the 90s came House was already splitting into a myriad of subgenres, from which came Deep House, the subgenre that is most supportive of what House is supposed to be, and it sounds nothing like Disco.

Roland TB 303 Forever!😎
Getting blowed like 2pac said the realest shit at the time house music
It's not just the electro-funk influences though, but also the Roland TR-808 drum machine. The use of the 808 was also important to early house music.
Chip E's "It's House" definitely sounds more like the house music we recognize today, but the reason why "On & On" gets called the "first" house record is because it was what kick-started the Chicago house movement.
Yea.
Thanks for the interesting information. /)
Wait.. Jesse... bitch... Time to cook?
House has come a long way since then thank god for the Chicago and NY scene and thank god we don’t have to put up with 80’s dance and this ear sore but it is a part of history and should be remembered
You know nothing of House...and it is apparent in your comment...and NY called it "Club" or "Dance" music, not "House" music.
@@BenardJackson such a shame we have to put up with total Dicks on RUclips I know more than you think but judging by your comment you don’t think! 🥡😷🥡 How it all began.
The origins..classic.
All right. First of all if you're going to quote something, quote it verbatim. I said, 'when it first started,' that is when House music was new ca. 1984. Now when Jesse Saunders made this track, he was basically trying to copy the popular disco music of the time, but this isn't disco music. The production techniques were completely different. Whilst disco songs were large, expensive productions, the new house songs were minimalistic, made with cheap hardware.
Holy shit thanks for the background info!! super post and i am so glad i have it on CD. I angered the neighbours wid it once..
@Lemanic89
"I Feel Love", came out of the Disco scene of the 70's which is all based on funk, R&B, Soul, Jazz etc. The House we knew in the 90's is just the same.
il primo disco house ufficiale della storia
There is so much subjectivity in a debate like this. Who made the first House Music song? Well I'm happy to say I have the answer! First of all Moby's comment that his "friend from Silver Apples invented house music when he made the song Oscillations" is complete nonsense. So who made the first house song?? The answer is....nobody in particular. It was created the same way all genres come to be, a lot of musicians did a lot of experimenting and building on each others music until a new genre formed. Every genre of music is created over a span of time with different musicians experimenting with different sounds and certain music becoming more popular and new instruments and technologies becoming available, etc. etc. etc. No one wrote the first Blues song. Nobody wrote the first jazz, or rock, or country, or hip-hop, or house, songs. Musical genres develop over fairly long stretches of time and the experimentation that leads to the development of new genres contains a whole lot of songs and people will argue about these songs being one genre or the next based on the elements of the song. For example Kool Herc didn't play the first hip hop song at the Back to School party in the rec room on Sedgwick in the Bronx. But he made an innovation in the way records were played that other people built on and over time hip-hop was created. But it did't happen in one day or with one song. It took a lot of people a lot of experimentation and time for hip-hop to eventually evolve. That's how all musical genres come to be. It is fun to debate these things though and to get different perspectives etc. For all we know the first house song was composed by some kid in his moms basement while he was playing around with equipment.
#Legendary....
