I was working in gas stations doing oil change and lube jobs back in the 60's and 70's, the chassis lube was accomplished with a spray bottle of lubricant mixed with water. Indian Head Brand lube comes to mind, do not know what was in it but it was soapy to feel. It did not endure long, hence the reason cars had frequent lube service. I favor a material today known as Murphys Oil soap, it is kind to all materials, does a wonderful softening and leaves a residue which I believe acts as a lubricant to rubber on steel, but it does not last a long time either. The good thing about water based lubes is that they tend NOT to collect dust and dirt.
Wow thanks for addressing every single question that I had while watching
Nice info! Thanks for creating and sharing. I’ll add that when my brakes get squeaky I like to generously apply the silicone lube or the white lithium and when the car eventually stops there’s no more squeaks!
You should use jack stands, don't rely on the hydraulic jacks.
Don't think the knows about Mr. 47.
That’s very important. Do not rely on jack only.
Thank you sir obvious 😏
I definitely agree with you, but he didn't even raise the car high enough. I probably wouldnt use jacks either just to barley life tire off ground. Everyone else play it safe use jacks lol
Those fail too
The way you say "lube" with a pause is so funny.
Nice video. I believe when they said lube in the past was because cars had fittings for Grease guns for bearings before fixed were common
Great video. I like to clean off the CV joint boots and tie rod boots and then spray them with rubber/plastic protectant (STP or Armorall) when I'm under the vehicle changing oil to keep them softened up so they don't get brittle, crack, release the grease inside and then lead to an expensive CV joint failure down the road.
i agree with your thinking.. A little extra work can be very important for longevity.. common sense
Thank you. You kept my attention for 33min!
Very well explained in detail 👍
From:- India 🇮🇳 Karnataka State.
Great video showing detailed procedures and explaining why doing such ways! Thanks for sharing.
underated video, thanks for all the info, will try to get a squeak out I just got after replacing shock/strut combo with new KYB's, weird how the noise came with the new ones and was not there before smh.
Let us know if it fixed the squeak!
@@kelvinsgarage Nah. never came back. kind of people that talk too much but never help
Excellent video. 👍🏾
Nice video. I will do this.
very thorough
Thanks for taking your time to share :-) i will try it
Been looking for a video on this!
Does the Silicone spray you are using have petroleum distillates in the ingredients? If so, then the petroleum will eventually ruin any rubber bushings you have treated.
The silicone ones don't use petroleum. They actually have properties that recondition the bushings.
AT-205 is used to reguvinate rubber suspension parts
Thanks for a great video...👍
All the older American cars use to have servicable ball joints and tie rod ends that you could attach a grease gun to and fill up, now everything is built to be replaced instead of serviced unfortunately
Just an FYI theres a recall for those 2006 honda civics on the motor block .....free engine at no cost .....not sure if its still active but take a look u might be eligible for a new engine
i had the recall service some number of years ago.. cracked block. However it should be expired at this time. I think it was only good for 10 years.
@@kelvinsgarageyup happened to me 06 civic but I was already over the warranty period by a year and a half. Ended up putting a new motor in instead of just changing out the block.
Is the spray going to crack the rruber bushing ¿
If you look at the CRC datasheets on their silicone sprays, you'll see they're petroleum based. Which is said to eat rubber. Correct me if I'm wrong
If that’s true, that makes this product useless because the main reason to go for silicone spray is cause it shouldn’t destroy rubber.
Yeah, a lot of those products have MSDS sheets that say they are petroleum based or don't even have any silicone in them at all. It's all so shady.
Don’t believe the bottle. The MSDS is what you should go by.
They are super shady about this stuff
Acetone (67-64-1) first. Idk what that is but seems not good for “rubber” any experts please chime in
I use AT-205, it's the only true rubber rejuvenator I know of. Watch Project Farm's comparison, it's the best.
The other week I fixed my failing faucet handle with it.
Another valuable RUclips video to learn what (not) to do.
What would you suggest?
Excellent. Nowadays, how many oil and lube places actually take the time to do the lube? What do you think the percentage is? I’m thinking really low. Tnx
Exactly
Lithium grease is petroleum based and can degrade the rubber therefore doing the opposite of what you want. Ensure you use silicone grease for this job. Lithium for metal on metal and high temp areas.

Great advice, thanks!
Hey dude, thanks for the vid. How is the car holding up now? Does it still squeak? Cheers
It fixed the suspension squeaks but probably will need to do it once a year, thanks for watching!
I use 303 Protectant , water based . When I change my oil every 5000 miles and use a mechanics lift . And liberally spray all rubber components to resist drying out and cracking . The propellant in some cans of silicone can be detrimental to rubber . To test , spray it into a styrofoam cup and if cup melts , do not use that brand . Until there is no melting effect on the cup , then use that brand .
Good tip..ty.
@@topsyball1049 You're welcome
Did you test WD-40 silicon spray?
Informative, awesome!
JACK STANDS OR CEMENT BLOCKS..That is not what was lubed in the old days, by the way..But is a good practice today..Those sprays didn't even exist back then....
Very useful and helpful video..thanks
Gonna try this.
Thanks !!
Does Jiffy Lube even lube anymore?
Just use 303 aerospace instead for all plastics and rubber. For metal on metal, use Chain lube
too expensive 303
Good video
Great video
Luuuubbeee
Be very careful not to get it on the brakes.
Thanks. Jiffy lube is no help.
This works for me
The lube is always important 🤣
reat advice other guy scotty k dosent say that using at 205 reseal i think i didnt watch whole video my car because i didnt get it done way back in july the whole front right side broke off plsu the trans line that was $740 then both tie rods another $400 including new srepentine belt so went to get front end alignment only $65 whole day wasted the left front lower control arm loose so with alignment another $350 i need to get done so i have to drive very carefully for 2 days to make the $250 i need like ni jack rabbit starting hard steering soft stop with brakes etc...
ugh?
i would only do this on the spring seats everywhere else you sprayed was pointless
I would clean with pressure washer under car before adding any lube to those boots.
Does dirt attract to all the bushings and cake up with dirt and debris???
It doesn’t cake up too bad if you use silicone spray. But if you use lithium spray, dirt will def cake up on it.
Yes it does so be careful. Idk why this guy giving this bad advice
I used to buy it for $2.97 from Walmart all the time. I now don't seem to find it anywhere. I still have 6 cans left but may run out soon.
Unfortunately, they increased the prices
What vehicle is that?
2006 Honda Civic LX
They quit putting grease fittings on cars and trucks. They want things to wear out for more repair money for them!
I do think he knows what can be lubed and what can't be or doesn't make a difference if u do or dont😂😂
great tips but these spray cans are now five to nine bucks, three? nowhere I know! Or $12.00
At one time it was $3 at Walmart but hey inflation, right?
Amazon 4.40$
Bought one a kroger for 7.95 ..may not be the rubber restorer tho..
Is this the same as white lithium grease??...
No, it is more liquidy. Better penetration.
WLG is better for metal to metal contact like door hinges
Lithium Grease is based in petroleum and it's use to apply on metal-metal contact, if you apply lithium grease, the petroleum will damage plastic/rubber materials. Now, the one used in the video is base in Silicone, you can apply Silicone grease in parts that have rubber without problems and also metal-metal (but it won't last as long as lithium grease in metal-metal).
Iube the chasee
Brush and silicon grease
It seems like you lack confidence in what you're doing. I generally want to know for sure if something could potentially harm my car
Lube means grease zerks
Is that just going to make dirt and debris stick to the parts even more? hehe LOL
Nobody. At jiffy lube is smart enuff to do this
Over time solvents rot rubber over time say eight weeks
The CRC Heavy duty silicone says acetone first and I can’t imagine that’s good for anything rubber or sealing. Can you elaborate any for the greater good
spraying your sway bar end links isn't going to do shit
This is not lubing a chassis, won’t hurt I suppose.
Cant tale you serious cause the hair
You talk too much
