    I’m new to studying the civil war. I recently read the Bruce Catton books, which were not just great history, but also great storytelling.

      No that is why his title is emeritus. Caroline Janney took his spot at uva when he retired.

    Really interesting the discussion on Sam Watkins, disappointing to think some of it maybe made up as it’s one I really enjoyed. Has anyone ever verified his enlistment in the 1st TN?

      That's a fantastic question. I have never looked over the rolls of that particular 1st TN (there were two) to confirm. I hope someone has!
