- Writer / director Mirrah Foulkes and cinematographer Stefan Duscio ACS discuss reimagining the classic Punch and Judy puppet show for the big screen.
Foulkes describes how they made the Australian countryside double for an ‘otherworldly’ and ‘old world’ Europe, largely thanks to the discovery of Montsalvat, an artist colony in Eltham, Victoria.
Along with behind the scenes footage, Duscio explains how this look was heightened even more by the camera, lens and stylistic choices, such as the use of LiveGrain - a realtime texture mapping software.
And Foulkes says how it all came together in post-production, in what she describes as a surreal experience piecing it together with expert editor Dany Cooper.
Judy & Punch releases in cinemas on 21 November 2019.

@@ScreenAustralia Yes, I'm aware of Marxist cultural engineering. Many other franchises are doing the same. It hasn't worked all that well for them since merely using an established and beloved story to push an agenda of Progressivist Orthodoxy is much weaker than creating a new franchise to explain a point. Just my two cents as someone who enjoys good storytelling and imagination.
