Organization is a huge time saver. Plus it keeps me from saying bad words when I can't find what I am looking for. I love it. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Ideas for improvement: When grabbing for small parts out of small boxes, your hand naturally scoops the floor then up the near side wall. For this reason, the angled wall with the label should go on the far side wall. The box’s floor should have a full radius like a cash register drawer to easily allow the parts to transition from the floor to the near side wall when being scooped out.
I've been adding that radius to the front and back inside lower corner of a few bins that I have made just to be catch all bins. Love it for getting those small pieces off the bottom of the bin.
Awesome and thanks for the link for the bins. If you ever have bins like that you don’t need to remove you can hot glue them in place. I’ve even hot glued the back row in keeping the front loose for removal. Again, thank you for the hard work on these videos and sharing your design.
Freedom Units lol. Great job! I am actually in the middle of a very similar project with 3D printed organizers and came across your video as I am nearing the end of my build lol. I love the flexibility of the 3D printed storage, and the ability to print more as the need arises. I had considered paying a company to injection mold my design, but I could not justify giving up the flexibility of printing more whenever needed. Keep up the great videos!
This is the best way to organize, so far. I've watched all other's video but I, too, hate opening the plastic boxes! They add friction to my workflow, when I just want to locate and get to the parts. This is so far the best way. Ikea Alex is also great.
Great design! The only thing I can add, is maybe having a curved bottom on the front edge of your boxes, to make it easier to scoop out with your fingers I have some food condiment containers that I have on my workbench, and it is pretty handy. Great channel, please keep up the good work
Love the idea of this. I would have added the angled label on the back surface and added a large radius on the inside corner to help you "scoop" out the piece you need.
Great video! I was trying to come up with some better organization for almost the exact same issue. Tons of M2/3/4 Cap/button metal/nylon screws/standoffs each with a dozen different lengths. Currently all sitting in a ton of tackle boxes. Looks like my Prusa MK3 is going to get a workout starting this weekend.
The organization is great! Maybe add another Bolsa wood strip to the front of the poster board as well to space the bins back a tiny bit to allow your fingers to fit inside when opening the drawer?
Very nice job both visually and functionality. However I expected four ULTIMATE colors and only see standard. You'll have to include sound with your best monster truck event commercial voice. Nice job as always! Greetings from North Texas and look forward to the next project 👍
I like the boxes, but putting a grid system on the bottom and on the bottom of the drawer would be a good idea. What I mean is, I saw someone who had a system that kept the boxes from moving when you opened or closed the drawers even if one of the boxes wasn't there. The idea being that you might take the whole box out and you wouldn't need to worry about closing the drawer too strongly. Besides that, good organization.
I've done something similar with all my parts. I have having to go to the store for stuff when I'm building a project or need to repair something for someone so I try to stock up on a large variety of stuff.
when it comes to small hardware ocd is great thing especialy because it can save you from nasty headache that might occur when you can't find something.
This is funny. Just watched this video for the first time, 4 years after it was recorded. I just did the EXACT same idea, but my drawers are black. Instead of the boxes you used, I went with Zack Freedman's Gridfinity boxes and grid, glued the grid to the bottom of the drawer with a few blobs of silicone, works a lot better, and a bit less work since you dont need to futz with posterboard or foamcore. Additionally because of the grid, I can use different sized boxes as well.
I like it , I have been saving the containers from crystal light and putting snaps and eyelets zipper pieces and beads, etc for my leather ,canvas ,vinyl business , thanks for the ideas sincerely deb bushee in VT
Since IKEA is a thing, instead of balsa barriers, buy carpet anti-slip silicon impregnated mate and cut to drawers dimensions. It's cheap and works really well with those smooth boxes bottom.
Cool video. I’d like to see a video or have a conversation on what you do for a job and how you would use all those items you make storage for. What is that tool to the right?
Great project, Travis~! I'm going back to rewatch your videos with 3D printing content, especially the printer build/assembly, since I just ordered my Prusa MK3S+~!! I'll be absorbing all that I can in the 5-week lead time that it takes for the printer to arrive. Have to figure out the type of enclosure that'll suit my needs the best, as well as storage for associated supplies. I'm stoked~!! As far as modeling goes, I've been using SketchUp since it came out, so I've got a bit of a head start, but I definitely see where it's different than modeling wooden projects. If you have any newb advice for getting a jumpstart in modeling, then I'd love to hear it. I've created accounts with Fusion360 and TinkerCAD, so I'll be dabbling in both for now. Thanks~!!
I have the same ikea cabinet and wish that they were full extension draw slides. I have a similar setup, but also use kaizen foam to put my bench tools in. I have to put a spacer piece at the back of the foam for the 30% of drawer that is unusable. My OCD wants to replace all the draw slides....but I think the boxes are a great idea and calms my OCD....but that 30% is a bugger.
We have those same cabinets in my wife’s craft room. You would need to make the dado in the drawer wider to fit the drawer slide. But with that step yes easily done
The front edge of the bottom needs a bevel/curve to make the part slide up the side easier. Also, I assume I'm not the first to suggest full extension drawer slides
Travis.....another fine video and another Cut The Sheet headed our way! Question, I'm going to be routing T-Track channels in a large piece of HDPE. I have plunge routers and need some guidance on what bit set to get. Any recommendations? Also, would love to see your 3D printer in action on a future episode.
Loving this, I would have angled the back of the boxes so they taper down lower than the label from the box behind , just so it is easy to glance what you are looking for. The back of the box kinda hides the labels at a low angle. Is that soldering iron heatsert jig/press 3d printed or purchased? I am starting to use inserts more and more and that would be a great addition to the workshop. Really jealous of the setup too
I really like your soldiering iron stand. I would love for you to go through a 3D print tools video. How can I get one of those stands? I like your tool rack on the wall too.
How does the unit cost (materials/consumables only) compare to the Schaller boxes? The custom nature of the printed ones is nice, but I have six 8-drawer Lista-style cabinets with a total of 48 36"x24" drawers, so the incremental cost difference of the 3D-printed boxes might add up to be significant vs. the purchased option.
Awesome. Shop org is something I am currently tackling. Other than imperial, metric, and miscellaneous do you have any other ideas for ways to classify hardware?
I'm pretty new to 3D printing and would love to build up a similar collection of hardware for commonly used items. Could you share a list of the types/sizes of hardware you like to keep in stock?
You ever think about 3D printing a plastic grid to put in TBE drawers than insert the boxes in the grid system, saw another RUclips do that, his name is Alexandre Chapel, he does 3D printing too
I couldn't find a good inexpensive product on eBay or Amazon, maybe because I'm not searching with the correct keyword. I did learn that Bosch has an "ORG53" product, Festool has a "T-LOC SYS" storage system, and Sortimo has something called "inset boxes"; all three of these look like they have storage cups that could work similarly to the 3D-printed ones.
This video has made me change my mind on waiting to purchase a 3D printer. I purchased my boxes from Schaller Corporation for my tool box. I like the design of your boxes better. Anything I should consider before purchasing? Any upgrades I should look at? Love your videos! Keep up the good work.
@@ShopNation I wanted your review video on it the other day. Is there another machine I should consider stepping into the 3d Printer space? As you know, the prices for printers are all over the place.
Did you think about getting full extension drawer glides? IKEA doesn't use them because they cost more than the cheapo glides that don't extend the drawer all the way out.
It would make these drawers so much more useful, I’ve thought about it. Only problem is how the drawer is made, the slides are embedded into the sides of the drawer
Organization is a huge time saver. Plus it keeps me from saying bad words when I can't find what I am looking for. I love it. Thank you for sharing your talents.

That’s awesome!!! I love having things organized like that. Now... putting it back after using it...that’s where I need work 😂
Glad I'm not the only one who See's organization and goes humm I wonder how it can get more organized great job
Nice job, as always. I appreciate your succinctness. And your video style is admirable. Thanks for what you do.
Love that the box color represents units. Now I’ll be painting some boxes that I use for hardware!
I like how the angled front gives you a grab-point to make it easier to lift out the bin
Awesome and thanks for the link for the bins. If you ever have bins like that you don’t need to remove you can hot glue them in place. I’ve even hot glued the back row in keeping the front loose for removal. Again, thank you for the hard work on these videos and sharing your design.
I like! Great idea!
Full extension drawer slides would give you full access and you could print more boxes and be even MORE organized!😎
Freedom Units lol. Great job! I am actually in the middle of a very similar project with 3D printed organizers and came across your video as I am nearing the end of my build lol. Clever...well presented...enjoyed the level of detail undertaken...thanks,...as usual!

I have bee on the hunt for a better solution for small parts organization lately and this is beautiful!
Absolutely SICK! Love it man :D
Love that OCD. Well done mate.

I LOVE your content and attention to detail and design!! Just ordered a hoodie!! xoxo
Great videos and presented well! Keep it up.
Very slick. I haven't had the opportunity to use a 3D printer yet but will need to find a reason too haha. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for some excellent design details. This scratches my OCD itch.
I would like to see those Ikea cabinets replaced immediately. An excellent SN project right there!
you hit 50K subs! Congratulations!

Freaking love this. I've been wanting to do something like this forever.
this is great for any hobby. great idea
Nice project I love to be organized makes me happy
The organization is great! Maybe add another Bolsa wood strip to the front of the poster board as well to space the bins back a tiny bit to allow your fingers to fit inside when opening the drawer?
Congratulations on 50k! Nice hat!
Just started printing boxes...3 down 200 to go!
ah man... I really need to get a 3D printer! So many possibilities
nice! extremely satisfying
This make my little OCD heart happy....
Cool idea. I’ve been struggling to come up with a good way to store 5-10lbs of different size screws.
You have a small hardware store in your house now! Looks good
Those are kick @$$ boxes. I want a 3D printer now :)
Very nice job both visually and functionality. However I expected four ULTIMATE colors and only see standard. You'll have to include sound with your best monster truck event commercial voice.

Awesome - my own OCD is jumping of joy :P
Nice organization 👍.
Very nice love it

I want to see more about the heat press tool!
I was wondering why you used markforged printers, instead of those common alternatives I’m always seeing. Makes total sense now!
I think it great what you created.....I did the same with harbor freight little boxes because I don't have a printer but I do have the same OCD!....ha
Nice!
Good work 💯🎯
Wish you would have shown more on cad box design and the printer in action....😉
Dude - I want your Shop Nation logo on a hat!
Awesome that you could print a double wide or long box for a part you have more inventory. LEGO-like power.
amazing
Also is that a insert press you've built with the stand and soldering iron? That's cool!
I like it , I have been saving the containers from crystal light and putting snaps and eyelets zipper pieces and beads, etc for my leather ,canvas ,vinyl business , thanks for the ideas sincerely deb bushee in VT

Oh yes! I have goosebumps. Lol
I requested this video.😁
In a good way.....NO WORDS~ :)
Really great Design. Want to print these. Havent found the scaling u have used. Can u give me advise please?
Great videi
Always enjoy your content! how much trouble would it be to modify the drawers for full extension? Just wondering...Yeah, I'm OCD as well...
I'm guessing it would have been more costly at least, it means replacing all the drawer slides
Cool video. I’d like to see a video or have a conversation on what you do for a job and how you would use all those items you make storage for. What is that tool to the right?

I wonder if there’s a way to swap the cabinet glides for full extension?
Thought about that too

Do you know how happy you would have made Napoleon for making your metric bins Blue?
Since you are such a fan of 3D printing. Any thoughts on building the MPCNC?
Travis.....another fine video and another Cut The Sheet headed our way! Question, I'm going to be routing T-Track channels in a large piece of HDPE. I have plunge routers and need some guidance on what bit set to get. Any recommendations? Also, would love to see your 3D printer in action on a future episode.
3D printing looks cool...... do more projects using 3D printing.
OCD= Organized completely, definitively.
Really like the box design with the tilt back for label. Which software do you design in?
Build your own desk with full extension drawers and any other improvements.
I like your design because the angled portion aids in grabbing the boxes. I find the other options are hard to grab
Really jealous of the setup too
90% of the heatset press was leveraged from a design I found on adafruit, I’m probably going to design a better one to be honest
Love this! Are the labels still sticking years later?
I really like your soldiering iron stand. I would love for you to go through a 3D print tools video. How can I get one of those stands? I like your tool rack on the wall too.
What is the brand of the soldering iron stand ; used for installing thread inserts? Shown next to the MarkForged...
How does the unit cost (materials/consumables only) compare to the Schaller boxes? Awesome. Shop org is something I am currently tackling. Other than imperial, metric, and miscellaneous do you have any other ideas for ways to classify hardware?
I’m surprised you didn’t make the width of the boxes equal the exact internal width of the drawer
Organization leads to efficiency which generates greater production!
I'm pretty new to 3D printing and would love to build up a similar collection of hardware for commonly used items. Could you share a list of the types/sizes of hardware you like to keep in stock?
That's called CDO! CDO is the same as OCD but with the letters I the right alphabetic order ;) thx for sharing
Hola
You ever think about 3D printing a plastic grid to put in TBE drawers than insert the boxes in the grid system, saw another RUclips do that, his name is Alexandre Chapel, he does 3D printing too
I may have missed this question already but what are these "inserts" and do you have a video explaining them?
Use baby food glass jars. Reuse. see though glass!
Where do you source your nut serts from? Im assuming the soldering iron on a stand is for pushing them in?
McMaster-Carr for most inserts, and yes that is a heat set press
After finishing a few projects my hardware drawers have become a complete nightmare. Definitely needs some attention
What is the name of the black pad on your desk with all the white measurements on it?
I simply love your OCD!! Do I have a brother?
Does anyone know where you can buy boxes like this. Having a hard time finding something similar on eBay or Amazon.
@@lakerimff Well, he also said you can buy them on eBay and Amazon. But you can't actually find them without knowing a key search term or two.

I’m using a stock Prusa mk3!
@@ShopNation I wanted your review video on it the other day. Is there another machine I should consider stepping into the 3d Printer space? As you know, the prices for printers are all over the place.
I can't find the off the shelf bins that he shows, or anything similar. Anyone else have any luck with that?
Can you do more videos on 3d printing thanks
Which type of 3d printer did you use for this project?
Did you think about getting full extension drawer glides? IKEA doesn't use them because they cost more than the cheapo glides that don't extend the drawer all the way out.
