"Jason" is the first song that I heard from The Midnight. I was a huge fan of Nikki already so when I saw she was a featured artist I immediately listened to it and I was hooked. It was August 2016, around my 21st birthday, I was in bed with the flu and I was staring at the sun going down outside. It was so hot and it was golden hour. Listening to this song for the first time was one of the best things that ever happened to me and I will never forget it. I am jealous of those who get to experience this song for the first time.
I absolutely love hearing from Nikki about this song. This is one of my all time favorites, not just from them or even this genre, but across all music. So absolutely amazing.
Legendary song! Tyler's and Nikki's vocals mesh so well together and that sax solo rips! Quintessential The Midnight right here. So cool that you got Nikki's input as well!
Great episode guys, and awesome to hear from Nikki! Love all her features with Tim and Tyler. Everyone they've collaborated with across production and featuring as an artist has just totally 'got' The Midnight as a project, and it shows. People who are all masters of their craft. Hope to see them back in Australia some day.
This song is so evocative. Such powerful imagery in my mind. I had written a story about a woman with a distant husband named Jason, and this song fit eerily well, so it always bring me back to those characters. I do love how it is pretty cheesy at first listen, but it becomes so much more as you give attention to the lyrics. Great job as always! And so great to hear from Nikki! What a talent.
Kinda weird but my name is Jason and this song describes my life lol I’m in my late 30s just found this song and now it’s my cruising song in my Lotus Esprit 😆
Great video! Fun fact, I was getting lost into Light Years, and I saw a tweet from The Midnight on a fan's question that asked if Jason had a sequel, and they said Light Years was the sequel, which makes sense since Nikki co wrote and performed on that one too.
Love This Song So So Much Especially The Sax 🎷 Ofcourse And That Rolling Perc Thing That Plays In The Entire Song. You Guys Are Doing A Great Job, Never Stop Making Videos. Love From India 🇮🇳🕉️
I immediately identified with this song because not only do I have a friend that this song reminds me of, this song holds elements of me, as well. Constantly searching and chasing after something and using people, music and image to "escape." It reminds me that before I criticize my friend for using women as an escape, I have to confront myself and my own addictions of what I use to escape, too.
God im so in love with this girl! Not only can she sing but shes also a knockout! Whoever is with her or married to her is by far the luckiest guy in the world!
I think it's me but I feel like it's such a weird take to think that the song is about the movie Jason. I have been shown the light that it was more about Jason's addiction. When you listen to the song with that context it makes a lot more sense than any other slasher film reference you could possibly make it
Could you please tell me what version is the song Jason played in this video? I know it's not the one released here on RUclips but sounds like a softer version without the instrumental part
I believe you’re referring to the demo we play and discuss at 17:35 (but tease in the intro). You can find it on The Midnight Wiki here: themidnight.wiki/songs/jason
@@AfterTheMidnight Thank you SO much guys :) I finally found it thanks to you after roaming youtube and google. The son is absolutely stunning, I have to say I like the Demo more.
To me the lyrics never made any sense. I feel like they were just freestyling random stuff over the a track for fun and the song ended up getting popular because of the synthwave movement and not necessarily because of the lyrics. Which is cool I guess. For me, I prefer more lyrical songs where the lyrics make sense to me. That's Just me tho. The reason why it was hard to figure out what the song was about was because the lyrics make absolutely no sense
The way we understand it, it’s about a guy who looks for happiness in the wrong places: alcohol, drugs, sex. The happiness from these things never last more than a fleeting moment.

Cool, this is also a great track/song. And nice to get some answers from Nikki directly, it gives the video an extra personal touch
I would love to hear more like jason song... one of the best songs I heard last few sad years
I wonder if they are going to mention how similar the opening drum riff is to "She's a Maniac" by Michael Sambelo.

You’re totally right, their collaborators have brought nothing but the best to The Midnight. Thanks for watching! 😊

Ollie Wride's new song Victoria pairs so well with Jason!! 😘👌
I associate this song with the movie Jason 😅 But love everything about, they did a great job with this one ♥️♥️♥️

We always thought that was a cool fact!

I thought it was about Jason from Friday the 13th haha, it does line up with that character even if unintentional

Love the intro guys

Jason is a Maniac! If you know what I mean 🫣😁 (the beat)
He’s a good saxs man but I liked how gunship used the one and only tim cappello on there stuff
Which mix are they listening to at the start of the video?

@@The7Laws-m1c Awesome! It’s really cool how it uses parts of The Equaliser
The first thing that comes to his mind Jason the red ranger?! He forgot about the real Jason the Friday the 13th
Nikki's vocals on this track remind me of paula abdul.
I can hear that for sure! 🎙️🎙️
I cant believe I didnt know this existed
Hi 👋🏼
The intro of the video is the song a different remix version?
To our knowledge it’s the official one!
The song is called The Equalizer (Not Alone) an instrumental rendition of the song is on their album Endless Summer!
