Hello, I just found your page, and Thanks A LOT, I do not have a 90D but I am using a Canon SL2 and they are very similar so I am getting lots of help from your work GREAT JOB.
Greetings from Nepal 🇳🇵🙏!!! Thanks for sharing videos such an informative. Plz, keep continues more functional setting of Canon 90D #nepalkailashtrekking #subscriber
Hey man I'm looking at the 90d or eos r for hybrid shooting mainly photography, but also some car feature videos, which one would you recommend I go for?
I use Edius Pro. It is easy to learn, has great real time capability with quality encoding. If you are looking for something that is free I recommend the free version of DaVinci Resolve
Nice presentation - I found the information quite useful and your presentation style is super. I am also interested in hearing your opinion on which picture profile to use for video recording with the 90D. There's a lot of talk about fake C-Log and attempts to flatten the profile to improve dynamic range. Many suggestions sound a bit counter-intuitive while others are more 'balanced' (the most reasonable of these options seems to be the Prolost settings of Sharpness (0), Contrast (-4), Saturation (-2) and Color (0). Thanks.
Here are my thoughts on this. Most people who buy an entry level camera like a 90 D are just dipping their toe into video with a DSLR. They are still learning many things. I would say that they should probably just work with a picture profile of auto or faithful, unless they are fully aware of the extra steps one needs to do when editing in the way of adding sharpness and color grading in post. Often what happens is people new to video will watch a video tutorial on settings, set up a picture profile of something like what you suggest, and then wonder why the video from their brand new camera looks so dull and has such a soft focus. If they share their unprocessed video on social media, or with their friends, people will wonder about the quality of camera they are using. If people have reached a point in their journey where the are concerned about getting more dynamic range, they should be ready to work with a more professional camera that offers native C-Log. Even then, most people do not do the best job of color grading and their processed video, while it may have a little more Dynamic range, will look odd with a strange tint or inconsistent color. People will forget to sharpen and the soft focus stands out. If you really understand what you need to do in post, your suggested settings seem like it might produce a very nice flat image that might give you a little advantage in DR. I am going to give it a try and see how much it might help with the 90D. I'll edit and post the results. Maybe do a lesson on Picture Profiles. Thanks for your comment.
@@LearningMediaSkills Good, thoughtful answer which is why I subscribed. I have quite a bit of experience in post (both editing and grading) and have been watching many a RUclips video espousing the virtues of a flat profile (including Cinestyle and fake C-Log) and they invariably show footage with a sweep from flat to graded as proof of how much better the profile is at retaining dynamic range. To my eyes (and I realize that RUclips compression messes with the resulting image) the 'graded' footage is usually unnatural looking with the blacks crushed or if 'preserved', muddy looking. Almost all of these videos are claiming that the fake C-Log is a silver-bullet solution to getting great color out of a DSLR but it would seem to me that many of these RUclipsr's don't really understand color grading. Maybe it's just me. Anyway - one thing that I've found if you are willing to do some color correction and grading in post is to dial-down the sharpness, contrast and saturation in the camera because these can be added-back in post with more sophisticated tools than the in-camera equivalents. You don't want to dial down saturation too much otherwise you lose color information. Because the 90D records in 8-bit there can be too much lost information at the point where it transcodes the footage into H264. I'd love to hear your impression after trying the Prolost settings as compared to the standard 'Neutral' setting of the 90D. Thanks for the great tutorials.
Some are of the opinion that 4k makes the video super realistic and excessively detailed thereby depriving it of its natural characteristics. Your guidance please.
You can always add softening filters in the edit if desired. I always film in 4K to futureproof the footage as well as give me more options for cropping and reframing in the edit without losing resolution.
Yes, The rule of thumb is set your settings based on where it will be delivered, or how it will match with the rest of your archives, or other video that you know that you will need to access when you do the edit. Your goal is to try and end up working with the same frame rates in a video editing project, as much as possible. If you are working under lights that are not compatible with your current settings, make the switch for that and let that be your exception in the edit project. It is better to let your edit software conform the difference in frame rated than deal with flickering lights. If you are not delivering for broadcast, you can choose whatever framerate you like for any given project. Social media, RUclips, Vimeo will take and display NTSC, PAL or Film Rate all fine.
If you are in Europe and use the PAL that is specified you still only get the 5 sizes, but if l change to NTSC Recognise for USA I get the 7 ,Question if l change to NTSC what effect if any do l get , l am in England , thank you
My main point is to film in 4K even if you are editing in HD. This has many advantages. You are not only future proofing all of the video that you take today, you give yourself more options in the edit for reframing, doing a slow push into the shot, panning, Better stabilization of handheld shots by taking the inner areas of the shot, etc.
As long as you are editing your project in HD and you export to HD, your internet speed should not have any bearing on your decision to film in 4K. Acquire your footage in 4K for the flexibility it gives in in a HD project now, as well as helping you build a library of stock footage in 4K for those future projects when everything switches to 4K or a client request their project to be delivered in 4K. If your whole library of footage is in HD, you will have nothing to draw on from your archives for that future 4K project!
Thanks for the great tutorial - I've just got my hands on one of these! I got some great tips from Canon Live Chat ( www.canon.co.uk/canonlive/live-chat ) which helped, and now with this too I'm really excited to get started using my 90D!

can I do video in out door in day light in NTSC in PAL country. can it be played back in PAL system TV?

Does the camera save last photo and video settings when switching between modes?
Yes it does
16.9 video size is present in canon 90D?
Yes, 16x9
@@LearningMediaSkills 16×9 size is the same with 16:9 ?i want to know exactly because i plan to buy the canon EOS 90D in this week
If you are in Europe and use the PAL that is specified you still only get the 5 sizes, but if l change to NTSC Recognise for USA I get the 7 ,Question if l change to NTSC what effect if any do l get , l am in England , thank you
I would recommend you only switch to NTSC settings if you want to use Film Rate. If you want to film at 25P then you need to be in PAL.
@@LearningMediaSkills thank you 👍👍
Why don't i have too much option in my 90d

This is what I did man,and it's a very good choice

thx
i have to disagree. it is based on lots of factors. ex internet speed. nobody can watch at 4k if the internet is slow

@@LearningMediaSkills considering if the internet speed is high enough for u to uplod for 4k. yes i agree
As long as you are editing your project in HD and you export to HD, your internet speed should not have any bearing on your decision to film in 4K. @@LearningMediaSkills agree. at the price of high cost for media storage 😝
If your internet is slow, save the upload and you can watch at 4k.
