But Fun Fact: Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, and Jessica were the most popular at debut because they had trained for so long, and Sooyoung had debuted in Japanese group prior to SNSD. But Taeyeon quickly rose up because of her vocals mainly, and Yoona because of her visual and starring in a drama.

just she's not known for her voice, so people aren't checking her songs. (it's even to her disadvantage. people know she's not SNSD's best singer (even if she can still hold a tune) so they don't bother checking her song. and imo she made a mistake with her first song: she charts she it at debut. but it was promoted as a solo when it's a duo. And 10cm sings more than half of the song. people then said it's because she is not good enough to sing alone, further the idea she's not a good singer. and now they don't check her song anymore)

Love this reaction! The reason you feel like you might have heard it but it seems unfamiliar is because the English version is quite popular so a lot of us have heard it in English. It's super weird for me to hear it in Korean actually. They performed the English version especially in live shows across the US.

I think the reason why I love snsd is that they are so versatile and pull off everything and make it their own. I feel like that’s not something that I see now in kpop in the sense that the style of every group is tooo defined and nobody dares to change that. I mean I don’t see anything in a million years resembling I Got A Boy.

Yoona has always been the goddess of SNSD. Her visuals always put her at top tier of popularity in Korea. Taeyeon wasn't always popular or the favorite, and has gained this new standing thanks to her solo releases. She is easily recognized due to her power vocals, but I didn't see people really picking her as a bias until her solo debut. Jessica had moderate popularity in Korea, but she didn't really rise until her sudden departure from SNSD. For a time the Top 3 most popular members were Yoona, Seohyun, and Yuri due the them looking very similar to one another, fans even took to called them "The Bermuda Triangle of SNSD." But, obvious this has changed in recent years, and also since SNSD has so many members it's been easier for fans to just point out which members were popular among the Positions of the girls rather than the whole group. For example Hyoyeon is the most popular out of the dancers, Taeyeon the most popular out of the vocalists and such.
Asking which members are the most popular is hard to answer since SNSD debuted in Korea, America, and Japan and the level of popularity between the members changes depending on which country their promoting in (this happens a lot when groups debut in different countries, due to each country valuing different things). For example Yoona is very popular in Korea, but has moderate popularity in Japan and America. Similarly Sooyoung is very popular in Japan but not the popular in Korea, and for a time Sunny was extremely popular in America, but has since lost her throne to Tiffany. Popularity changes with each new year, but now the top Popular members of SNSD are Yoona and Taeyeon.

Every member is popular in different areas. In korea I would say taeyeon, yoona. In europe Hyoyeon is THE IT girl, she was even chosen by vogue italy as their korean ambassador. US obvi jessica and tiff. Japan is Sooyoung and Sunny. Seohyun im not sure.
