Thank you, Emma. You explained the breakdown of this method so well. I just have to remind myself to slow down, let it dry (or dry it) in between and have fun!
Well, I'm definitely late to the party, but your little man is adorable! He must be at least six years old now, and I'm sure he is proud of his mommy's work! This is a very nice, helpful video. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Thanks Emma for demystifying the orchid for me. I was in Hawaii visiting my daughter and took wonderful pictures of them but I have been totally intimidated by their complexity so didn't attempt to draw or paint them. After your tutorial I now feel like I can attempt drawing and painting from my beautiful pictures. Thank you for breaking the process down and simplifying it like you do. I also really appreciate the way you use the wet in wet techniques, and show how you manage the water in your brush by drying it before blending things out. I have learned so much from your approach.
hi! im a beginner and this was one of the best tutorials i have ever seen! thank you soooo much!!!! and i made the best painting of my short little life !!
The timing on this is ridiculously perfect! I literally just asked my sister for pictures of her orchids because I wanted to try learn to paint them! Laughed when I saw this video title, too perfect!!! Thank you
I've been waiting for you to do an orchid forever it is my favourite flower but sadly the only one I can't seem to paint. I love your videos, you make everything so beautiful, simple and straight forward. I've learned so much from you and just wanted to say thank you and please keep them coming!
LOVE ORCHIDS!!! Thanks so much for sharing your precious time & creativity, you're artistry is amazing!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! Stay safe & healthy, give that little man smooches, too adorable (I have three sons, not babies anymore, enjoy every stage!)!!! Blessings & hugs!!!
My Dad grows orchids as well, I am always trying to think of something to paint for him. My Mother is passed and my Dad is an avid gardener. Thanks for the simplicity of your instructions!
Hi Emma, this is by far my favorite video of yours!!! I’ve been absent for a while and I just wanted to let you know how amazing it is to see how much you have grown and progressed since I watched last. Your painting is beautiful as ever and your instruction is so perfectly administered. Even your videography and editing has greatly improved! What a pleasure to be able to watch you bring more beauty into the world. Thank you for your hard work and the time you put in to help us💕 all learn too😁
Emma, this is one my favourite tutorials. Showing the whole process is really helpful for beginners like me! Thank you for sharing! Keep safe, Laura xx
Loved, loved, loved this tutorial! It came out same day as my own orchids bloomed, almost the same color too. I can’t wait to try this it is so beautiful! Thank you again for a great painting. Also love your new fringe. Loved seeing your son as well. He is so perfect! I have two grown sons. They grew up so fast and now living their lives. Enjoy every moment. Even the teaching times. We are all experiencing “TIME OUT” so it’s time to learn and teach. We will all look back and remember how well we handled it. Love from Florida.🏝💖
Beautiful! Is it my imagination that your examples have improved since you've been working with professional watercolors? I know it hasn't changed your artistic talent, but your latest examples have been over the moon! Thank you.
Emma, I can't believe how delicate and detailed you were able to make these orchids! You have incredibly steady hands. I am still struggling to get the kind of wonderful blending that you manage to achieve - Practice, practice, practice, Right?...;-)
A really beautiful painting and a super lesson, thank you. I learned a great deal, and it was extra inspiring to try some of your shading techniques as I have just retired and have a "farewell" vase of lilies sitting right next to me. I do enjoy your son being included .... one of these days we'll doubtless be hearing "Mum? I can't find the car keys!" in the background, or better still "Mum! Where did you put my ultramarine?"
You're such a great teacher! Really explaining every single move you do, I love it. The end result is amazing. I am definately going to try this one. Thanks!
Oh wow I did some of these or a similar fllower when I first started out in like a blue color they came pretty but it was smaller like on 4x6 maybe but I've just been doing some bigger sizes lately so I can't wait to do this one on a 11x 14 it's so pretty and I'm getting way better at it with u teaching ...Happy Easter to you and the baby he's so cute talking hope u guys had a great day !
You have an amazing talent for taking flowers by they’re parts and putting them together on paper blending them, to look so realistic. I have no talent for drawing, but I think I can learn from you❣️( If you take requests...I would love to Learn how to paint Snow Drops. They are not very common here in Southern California, but I ordered some by mail and they grow and spread in my garden. Here and in more seasonal climates they are the first to appear in Spring. Maybe they’re more common in Canada, they are as delicate as their name. Please consider this😊
Orchid buds are green until they open. I raise and clone orchids. Buds are green. No hi to of what colour is inside. Thought you might want to know. :) I love your channel and have learned a lot. 👍🐹
I loved watching this and I too am so tempted to try orchids.....my question is about the background...not sure I like it white....how would you do a background? Your little guy is getting big and I see a resemblance to you more and more.
I tried doing orchids last week because I have some beauties in my garden right now. But mine were awful! So glad you did this tutorial because now I’m ready to try again. Thanks! Love his sweet little bye
Just want you to know I have been going crazy. Literally. Not just Quarantine but serious health issues. I used to do traditional art. But haven’t felt good so been doing procreate on my iPad. My pencil broke. So I haven’t been able to do art or feel well enough to sit at my art desk. Yesterday I was so depressed I literally planned to kill myself today. Then this morning woke up a little better. Saw your tutorial and I feel like I can actually do this in bed. Your teaching style is so nice and calm and right up my alley. Thank you for taking the time to do this. You probably don’t know the lives you touch. But today you just may have saved a life cause I don’t feel the way I felt yesterday. Thank you!
Rachel Edington 😭😭😭 I cant even tell you what reading this made me feel. Please, if you’re struggling reach out to someone! Your life is so worth living. I don’t know, you but I care about you! Feel free to message me on instagram if you need to talk!! I’m here!
Can we learn to paint a hornet? It is my school mascot. If you do do a tutorial on it, I’m going to share it with my 110 sixth graders who loved the three leaf clover. Since schools are out, it would be a heartwarming series, “How to paint school mascots.”
Hi Emma. How often do you have to replace your Princeton snap brushes? My #6 doesnt bounce back to shape at times. It stays flat after picking up some pigment...thanks!
Karen T. Mine seem to have lasted a while. Sometimes I just need to manipulate it a bit more with water. Make sure not to leave it in your water jar for long periods of time. Either dry it flat or even better, upside down
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I hope some day I can do half as well!! Thanks for the detailed instructions!
Emma is so much fun to paint with! What a gift to all watercolor artists!

Your son is just SO cute. The orchid is nice too but he is the star!
Thank you for this detailed instruction. I am a total newbie to watercolors and have a lot to learn.

Beautiful! Can you do loose orchids too? I prefer them.
A mom's trick😉: give them something to hold in each hand. Even for 3 seconds.

Maravilloso..... 👏👏😍😍
Can you do a loose orchid too loved your video💕
Nice job!
👏👏👏 V e r y n i c e 👏👏👏
The ink is todo light. For beginners ir needs to be darker and bigger to appreciate the lines .
Wonderful💕
Nice job! I grow phalaenopsis orchids and yours look fairly realistic. Did you use a photo or have a plant you looked at to paint?

Can you do a less loose and more realistic iris a bit like this?
Красиво!
