I am glad you mentioned knee pads. During Fighting Pistol I wore them on the second day when we shot from the ground. The main reason is The Fighting Pistol course/range was not on grass. It was on hard ground that had a lot of empty ammo cases. With knee pads you could be fast without having to worry about taking a small rock or brass to the knee.

I have found it funny, going to a light unit in the army, seeing a bunch of "too cool for kneepads" soldiers going out for training, hitting the ground when "taking contact", and then complaining about knee pain when they get back. We run on pavement, which is bad on the knees. We do long distance road marches with heavy rucksacks and body armor, which is bad for the knees. So why wouldn't you protect your knees from impact when you slam your knees into the rock/root ridden ground? 🙄

Taking the class last week in Bastrop, TX coaxed me into buying a nicer charging handle for my AR. Tim and Jay were great instructors. Look forward to taking more classes.

A lot of guys need to hear this, who cares what you look like, wear the hat, wear the camelbak. Nobody cares what you look like while you are being taught badassery.

"Commie ammo for the commie guns..." Duuude! You kill me. I think you and I are the last two guys in America who still refer to them as 'Commies'. I probably do you one better, as I still call them "Pinkos" too. LOL

you brought up a good point so I am asking..what if I am eye dominant and fire rifle left and pistol right. what is a good set-up for classes? I have practiced on my own and feel o.k. with my set-up. what are your thoughts? also on staying hydrated... you should start days before and load up every cell in your body with extra water. if you wait for the day you could be hosed. I work outside in Arizona. thank ya kindly.

definitely not reloads or back of the closet stash!! learned that lesson the hard way. shitty ammo took down 2 ARs. thought we had it figured out day 1 when we found broken buffer..... nope. day 2 was full of stuck cases, double feeds and bolt locked closed on stuck cases. finished day with Jays AK. bought 300 rds of Fiocchi and went to range with dirty rifles, the way they left class. not one issue with 300 rounds, no issues since switching to Fiocchi. planning on retaking Fighting Rifle

    Good old, water belly.
If you work outside you are used to having so much water in your gut, that you sort of want to vomit all day long.
Don't worry office guys, it goes away in five minutes or when you start moving.

You talk about having your fighting rifle slung over your right shoulder for easy access to your sidearm.
While I'm sure it's probably the best method, I have an issue with this; in my right shoulder I have a torn labrum and rotator cuff that's held together with pins and other stuff and they literally had to screw my tendon back to my shoulder,
I was attacked by a dude with a knife, I was unarmed (never making that mistake again), I ended up stabbed a couple times in my left arm and completely shredded my right shoulder internally fighting him off.
A few years later my shoulder is mostly back to normal, but it causes me a quite a bit of discomfort to leave a rifle slung like that for more than a few minutes. So, I'm not exactly sure how to orient my rifle and pistol. For me, what feels best is slung over my left shoulder or not at all with a drop leg holster on the right leg.
Do you have any input or other ideas for me? I can shoot guns and run around all day without issue, it's just having something on my right shoulder.

Going to split them up for fighting pistol and then fighting rifle.
