James is a such a legend that when his agent told him that the Terminator 1 script was awful, he fired the agent almost immediately after that remark. Confidence is key.
If you are into film making or even if you have a dream of some sort , I'd say this interview is worth every minute of your time . He is not only a film making genius but also a very insightful and inspiring human
When there’s so many film artists that like to present themselves as “the chosen ones” or those born with the magic, then there’s this guy who basically is saying: you can do it, there is a process. James Cameron all the way.
You don’t need to be a fan to respect someone and listen to their lessons. I’m not the biggest Cameron fan either, doesn’t mean I don’t respect the hell out of him and that he doesn’t have a ton of valuable info.
I watched the entire hour and six minutes of something I thought I was originally just going to skim through. I have a newfound respect for James Cameron.
Thank you James. You made realize I was meant to do this. I was BORN TO DO THIS Im 63 but Ive already been a platinum record producer songwriter I started out wanting to make movies and became a songwriter producer because I was also musically gifted. THANK YOU JAMES
Cameron gave an articulate, thoughtful interview. His leadership comments were very interesting (eg. choose your team well, inspire them then accept their result even if it doesn't coincide with the vision in your mind.)
This is one of the best seminars on filmmaking I have ever seen, everything he says is golden save yourself 2-3 years of film school and just got out and fucking do it!
It is so fascinating to me to listen to humble people that are smart, great storytellers and at the top of their field. Their life lessons can be quite universal.
if you set your goals ridiculously high and its a failure, you will fail above everyone elses success James Cameron Just sums up who he is. Also the quality of the questions were simply mind blowing.
*I really dig this magnificent quality in this video, this is great !!!... The sound and image are absolutely gorgeous, it feels like you're litterally talking to the guy standing in front of you, and he's talking about his experience and thoughts on film-making and highly intelligent perspectives on things and life in general in the end... I mean this is what is commonly called "A Perfect Interview Video Example". Hence my thanking you like crazy for it. Love to you guys, whomever you may be.*
Inspirational, even if you are not in the film industry, moral of the story, grab life by the balls, take risks, no one made millions by not taking risks , FACT
It’s crazy because a lot of things that he thought and felt or things that I think and feel as an aspiring director… It definitely makes me feel like I’m on the right track and I’m not alone. Especially when he talked about seeing George Lucas make films that he wanted to make and that it made him want to get off his butt… I’m going through that right now and finally getting the ball rolling on my first budgeted short!
He is a Leonardo Da Vinci right left brain so creative and so much ability solving problems is what an engineer does therefore directing perfect fit he also has a sense of psychology an eye for performance to make sure the scene is done well "Take 7 and Action "
Wow 90 yrs old..... Im 63 Ive already been a platinum record producer but now Im pursueing film directing having worked on a few pro dilms Set it off.. B.A.P.S. The Ckre too. Thank you James
I remember Working at a vegetable stall in Ontario when James Cameron used to come by and buy half a bakers dozen of pink lady apples for his Grandmother. Once I asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up and he said that he wanted to make films. I shot him down immediately and said: Listen to me Jamie, there are only two jobs in this world, apple sellin, and apple pickin. It's lovely to see how far he took his dream but I can't help feeling like this boy could have made a huge difference in the apple picking industry. Also his Grandmother showed me her thighs one time in Paulies Pizza Pub
“It’s not enough to succeed; your friends must also fail.” I think not many filmmakers have the courage to acknowledge how common it is to be consumed by this feeling, especially when you’re starting up. Spielberg has, Cameron, apparently, has, Ridley Scott has, Damien Chazelle has... who else? I find this to be extremely important because otherwise it makes people who’re battling through that emotional state to also feel guilty in the process, which is the last thing one needs.
At the end of a movie I would see about 400 peoples names(credits) i thought it was impossible to make ur own movie. 400 people, $millions, talent, I was wrong.
great directors are endless ..cameron, speilberg, depalma, paul thomas anderson, scorsese, oliver stone, edward zwick, zemeckis, john hughes.micheal mann,
James Cameron plays down how Truly brilliant he is (Like Mensa) He so good on an amazing level things. Also who is a really bad director....My Vote is Michael Cimino heaven's gate....A movie and director that wasted so much money it wiped out a studio united artists
All cameron Films except t1 and aliens can appear stilted when theres no Action. We tend to look that over because weve seen them so many times. Avatar is veeery rigid, even t2 Trends to have some cringy stuff.
I wonder who he's referring to when he said there are people who are better than him in making spectacle movies😅 haven't heard about them but they might be doin pretty well if they are better than him.
James is a such a legend that when his agent told him that the Terminator 1 script was awful, he fired the agent almost immediately after that remark. Confidence is key.
Harlan Ellison.
"Confidence is key" but not everytime (Uwe Boll LoL)
Or arrogance; whatever works.
Nothing with confidence. Agent was being honest.
Adam Sandler should fire his agent...
If you are into film making or even if you have a dream of some sort , I'd say this interview is worth every minute of your time . He is not only a film making genius but also a very insightful and inspiring human
thanks for your love and support

When there’s so many film artists that like to present themselves as “the chosen ones” or those born with the magic, then there’s this guy who basically is saying: you can do it, there is a process. James Cameron all the way.
I never was a total fan of James Cameron movies... But damn, I did not think I'd learn so much from him in just one hour. I am completely sold.
You don’t need to be a fan to respect someone and listen to their lessons. I’m not the biggest Cameron fan either, doesn’t mean I don’t respect the hell out of him and that he doesn’t have a ton of valuable info.
Terminator 1 and 2 are some of the best movies EVER MADE. Go back and watch. And ALEINS is a masterpiece.
I watched the entire hour and six minutes of something I thought I was originally just going to skim through. I have a newfound respect for James Cameron.
So sad so many people tried to break him down and suppress him and keep him away from his great destiny. His story is inspirational...
Happens all the time, he’s one of the few who realized that they were morons
Happens to everyone, no one gives anyone a free pass. It's a competitive world.
Iit’s not sad. He’s become one of the greatest of all time.😂
Human nature is what’s sad…
James just doesn’t BS, he doesn’t have to and doesn’t tolerate it in others. Singular drive and vision. Inspirational.
Damn Cameron is rapid firing pearls of wisdom here.
Thank you James. You made realize I was meant to do this. I was BORN TO DO THIS
Im 63 but Ive already been a platinum record producer songwriter I started out wanting to make movies and became a songwriter producer because I was also musically gifted. THANK YOU JAMES
I wanna be a musician and everything he says can be applied to it. What he says is a universal truth in every profession
This video should be a prerequisite for aspiring directors in film school.
Cameron gave an articulate, thoughtful interview. His leadership comments were very interesting (eg. choose your team well, inspire them then accept their result even if it doesn't coincide with the vision in your mind.)

The loudmouths are usually the mediocre or failed ones
This video should be re-titled "James Cameron Interview on Life." Like most I have loved JC's films but have a new appreciation for the man.
if you set your goals ridiculously high and its a failure, you will fail above everyone elses success
James Cameron
Just sums up who he is.
Also the quality of the questions were simply mind blowing.
Exactly! The same interview could have been ruined if an amateur were asking questions.
here i am at the age of 36, driving across america to southern california, living in my car, not a penny to my name but i’m finally chasing my dreams.
Well enjoy homelessness
Hope you're doing well stranger! 💐👌😉
The beginning part of commitment is so true. You have to have 100 percent or nothing at all. No wonder he is one of the biggest directors ever
Nice Words from James Cameron

Fascinating interview! Very inspiring director
Incredible interview, especially the part in the beginning about having to kill off all of your other creative endeavors to focus on one thing.
Such amazing interview it makes me wanna cry. Everyone should watch this
His prediction of the future of filming is spot on. The mandelorian and avatar are great examples of this.
this interview is so good wtf

It was fascinating him explaining how people want to feel special so don't support others bc it's a conflict of interest
Great interview, I’m looking forward to the next Avatar even more.
Awesome to see JC talking about Kubrick.
Brilliant. TY

Probably one of the best directors ever…. Eclipsing Ridley, Spielberg, and the like.
Not eclipsing Ridley and Spielberg no. You also forgot Kubrick.

Imagine just being able to decide to quit your job to "work on film".
