I've only ever had 2 cars fail on me. One was a 2006 kia optima my mom bought me in 2011 as my first car, shit blew within 6 months. The 2nd was a handed down F150 ecoboost. Since then, I've only ever bought lower milage cars with one owner. Oil chnages every 3K miles, not abusing it when taking off, stopping softer, etc..haven't had an issue. The CEL came on for my 2018 Malibu, cleaned a solenoid, and boom, it was gone. I keep all records of anything done to my vehicles. Staying on top of maintenance is the best you can do. Friend of mine said he could go 10k miles in between oil changes because his manual said so. I advised against that and told him I would still do it every 3k miles to be safe. Didn't take my word and for about 2 years he was good. Kept laughing at everyone who took my advice on frequent oil changes and how we were wasting money. 2 weeks later, he shot a rod because his engine oil levels were so low it couldn't cycle through fast enough. Also had an oil leak, I told him about that he claimed wasn't an issue 😂😂
🙏 With great respect , just looking at the Coolant Hose alone , the Mercedes uses hard plastic that would break & leak sooner that the TOYOTA softer & bendable hoses ... Then it's the cost per items for the rest of the car like the windscreen for a TOYOTA might be in the average range of US$500 , while for Mercedes might be in the US$1,000 to US$3,000 per piece depending on the models even though they are made in the Far East! ... TOYOTA resale value also higher! ... 🐕
Not true a 500,000miles Toyota will outlast a brand new Mercedes with 0miles. I had both cars before and Trust me Mercedes is a past Glory!!!. I can drive my Toyota on 3 wheels and still trust it
I own one of this Mercedes w205 c300 4matic it’s pretty reliable my wife inherited the car and she beats shot out of it and currently it’s at 142k miles , just keeps running maintain it and it just keeps going and last years
My family and I had always owned Toyota’s and BMW’s. Toyota’s were really reliable. I had my 2000 Toyota Camry for over 21 years. I sold it last year. It was going to need the timing belt water pump etc a $2k bill. It wasn’t worth it to keep it. I’ve had my BMW E60 for over 13 years. Very easy to maintain. I changed my own water pump and cooling system. No problem at all. It has been reliable to me. I am looking for a replacement from my Camry. I want an F15 X5 Sdrive 35i. I love BMW’s they are easy to work on and they look and drive great. I am sure these new Toyota’s are good, but not like they use to be. I imagine they will not last as long with the more electronics and that is why I am going with the car of my dreams and that’s a BMW.
If you have to tell a person to change or replace a leaking coolant hose They have no shot in keeping a vehicle for all that long There are the same people that don't know how to put air in their tires
Mark, I really enjoy how informative your videos are comparing reliability and functionality of many vehicles. I own a 440i and I am just in awe how dependable the B58 engine and ZF8 gearbox are. I want to ask (Sorry if you have covered this before) but would you give us your thoughts on CVTs from all brands that use the technology? Nissan seems to get the most hate regarding CVTs, however some Subaru enthusiasts I have met have expressed not all CVTs are are made equal. Love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Keep up the great content

Where I work we have many fleet vehicles. We have about a dozen or more MB SPRINTERS. I am dead certain that Toyota at their worst cannot even come close to how bad the Sprinter is. I have one as a work van. It is a 2012 and has almost 110 000 kms. Since new, it has needed all of the pollution control hardware replaced, the turbo ate it self at 100 000 kms. The van has rust everywhere. They started rusting after 2 years. Our head mechanic told me that the cheapest bill from Victoria Star was never less than 6 000 CAD and the biggest bill was an astounding 13 000 CAD. Sprinter vans are rolling piles of junk. They ride like a wheel barrow. Every lite bulb on mine has been replaced 8 times now I am sure. You say MB transmission are good...well mine and even my coworkers Sprinter has bone jarring shift from 1st to 2nd and vice versa. I have spoken to other people with Sprinter experience...I have yet to meet one person say anything good. The only good is space. One time at an RV show I asked a RV renter about Sprinters...he laughed and said keep it 2 years and send it away. He told me they are God awful.
honestly i agree because where i live mercedes are very popular and reliable. they wont last a million miles like a toyota. but lets be honest, both cars will last 200,000 miles free of issues if you are a human being.
Here in NZ with its harsh sun I have seen German cars go to the wreckers once they reach their end of their lives still with very nice paint work. The paint on Japanese cars is often no where near as good
After ten years my GLK350 doesn't recognize either Go key, can't wait to see how much that will cost😬 At least I can still unlock it and drive it😍 Oh BTW it warps the rotors every 20,000 miles because it keeps brake pads closer to rotors in cruise control or Sport Mode. It really sucks, bad design.
My dad's camry lasted 17 years. Very solid, but it was a boring car. To be fair, it didn't actually fail. Just the repair bills were beyond the car's value. I'd rather have a Mercedes but sell it before warranty expires.
My BMW e46 330xd lasted 18 years without any major problems. Wasn't expensive to maintain. Rock solid car, without any rust. The interior was in very, very good condition too. It has 250++k miles on the clock. Now I drive Mercedes w213 e350d and I love it.
To me, regular maintenance for my car is a no-brainer. But what have you heard over the years why some car owners never or hardly ever bring in their car for maintenance?
Just came to tell that here in Finland a 500'000 km driven mercedes is normal while on Toyotas its more rare. I've driven both as diesel and with Mercedes you can drive it always within 2000 rpm while same size Toyota requires more. That's probably one reason.
Quite honestly FWD is more than adequate for road use and is way better the RWD in snowy climates. Prepaid maintenance you absolutely mailed it. Oil changes . . .the BMW recommended interval for my 335d was 20,000 km. As a mechanical engineer myself I say no way - I do it every 10,000 km (my local BMW dealer even agreed with this . . .maybe so they would make more $ servicing the vehicle . . .who knows). Oil is cheap - new engines with spun main bearings are not cheap to fix. I am of the opinion that oil change interval recommendations should be required to meet maximum contaminant limits as independently verified by labs like Blackstone. Good maintenance is critical - as well as not abusing the vehicle . . . but one of our vehicles is a BMW 335d and as a former BMW diesel driver yourself I'm sure you are well aware of the issues these cars had (not with the engines but with the emissions control systems). These days I look for vehicles without turbochargers - although this being said, my "d" made so much power that 99% of the time it was working at a fraction of what it was capable of so the engine itself was actually really good.
Arguably nobody builds a more reliable diesel than Mercedes. Diesels can certainly last longer than petrols (with more maintenance though) and Mercedes transmissions are also robust. No reason why you cant get it to 500k miles with proper maintenance.
I agree with your points in this Video, I will also agree with the Quality of new Vehicle's is definitely taking a hit, With the Cost increases due to inflation for raw materials for most Car's I noticed the seat materials are not going to last like in the past, Due Comfortably complaints softer materials are being used hence the durability will automatically take a back seat, I'm talking about a 2020 Civic compared to a 2005 the difference is almost 100%, 50 for sure.🌞
I know people with 1980's diesel Mercedes cars. They will run forever. I don't like the idea of a turbo four cylinder and can't imagine it lasting longer than a NA engine.
If we only talking about powertrain only, maybe. The problem is that it take much more than engine and transmission to drive! For example. You can't change the battery easily without reset anything. For Mercedes and includes other European cars, you can't let the battery dies when you park the car in the garage for 3 months without reset anything. For Toyota, all you have to do is getting a boost. Mercedes is like you marry to a lady in Hollywood and you can afford the maintenance and money is not a concern. For people who wants the wife to cook, looking after children, cleaning, low maintenance and great sex, you might as well marry a girl that working in the farm. Buying a Toyota, you will usually have all of the above😂 Don't get me wrong, I love Mercedes too in terms of elegance, pleasure to drive and the looks inside the cabin, but don't compare how long the car will last. My front brakes pads last 140000km when I bought my 4Runner new and replace the rotors at 220000km. Can a Mercedes or BMW do that? Absolutely not!
HAHAAHA. needed a good laugh. the same GTR that has a limit on the launch control before they void your warranty? A 911 turbo S or GT2RS would eat a GTR and be better daily drivers. Good joke.
I had this view for long that a Mercedes Benz is no match for Toyota in term of 1.Solid body metal,2.High performance brake Caliper,3 and Long record of Engine and Gear box design better than that Toyota CVT ,but I have no plat form to say it out. Please tell Scott KILMER this message
I have 2012 Mercedes s550 40,000 miles on odometer I will do my pm B flush fluids and follow maintenance as instructed in owners manual love my Benz drives like nothing else. Owned Lexus & bmw and all cars have problems , take care of it.
Every time I see your face among the recommended clips on my RUclips page, I say that this dude another time has found a way to carry in the shit another Mercedes model in favor of a shit cheep car! But this clip i think is a rare exception.😂
I was sure you were going to say, "I park the Mercedes in the garage and drive the Toyota". But seriously, after our "starter Benz" E320 (we bought new in 2009) and a C300 the truth is, the Mercedes had minor issues, the rear window screen and a few front end parts on a recall. We own a Tacoma and RAV4, and like any car... change oil every 5K.
MB says maintenance/oil change every 10k miles or 1 year.. how much more often should I change it instead? Also what are you thoughts on the 2029 GLC300?
Mercedes are nice expensive comfortable cars, but unless it is an 80's or older model I just do not see them ever outlasting a Toyota no matter what you do to them. If you try to bullet proof them through after market you will spend a ton more. I will stick with the tried and true Lexus before Mercedes every single time. You Mercedes fans can have them!
MB no Matter the services etc, it is not reliable. I’ve driven many over 15 yrs, new each year. I changed to Toyota 2019, I will never change. MB is not made to last. Part failure due to lifespan design all to save them for bigger profits. After sales is atrocious. I’ll stick with “Kaizen” 🙏🌸
I had a Camry and now I have a Mercedes. There’s no comparison in terms of comfort, luxury, and performance. I haven’t had any mechanical problems with the Mercedes. I’ll probably never own another Toyota.
The Mercedes will cost twice the price of a Camry, no sense in comparing them, plus the Camry is not a Japanese car, it's made in America reason why is not as reliable as Japanese made Toyotas.
You obviously never heard of Balance Cam on Mercedeses. This means that you CAN make Mercedes outlast Toyota, but with only one small caveat (repair): have to rebuild engine (aka install non-soft, non-factory-defective balance cam). 2. You obviously never heard of Engineering Term "Planned Obsolescence": plastic pumps, plastic parts, designed to fall apart right after warranty expires. Guaranteed. Conclusion: sure, you can make it "last", but at what expense? Mercedes (and BMW) stand for "Bring My Wallet". See letters of their names.
@@ECPP Then what the f*** are you trying to say by your videos? Gain "Likes"? Just say that rich people are proud that they can have vehicles that require a super-colossal wallet. That is the only point of these cars. Of course, they are "fun to drive" as some say.
Most people fail to realize that toyota and MB are just car companiesn model is a factor too. The type of driver that purchases thesebcars is just as important as the make and model. Most people I know who want a Toyota are the type who put the cheapest gas available in it drive the piss out if it until they hear some odd noise or it won't start. If that's you, stay away from mercedes. I can only personally speak for the sprinters but they are long running hard working MB products 300-500k miles is not unreasonable with proper maitinence and quality parts. Keep your fluids, parts spec and OEM and change fluids a little sooner that scheduled and theses vehicles can be driven hard for a very long time.

You're very informative with an easy to listen to voice. Thank you
I appreciate that!
If you have to tell a person to change or replace a leaking coolant hose They have no shot in keeping a vehicle for all that long There are the same people that don't know how to put air in their tires
The only way to keep a modern Mercedez Benz longer than a Toyota is not running it.
Except B58 burn a crap load of oil!!!
@@davothegreat9990 I can't say that is the case with mine. However it is stock with no tuning done to it. Had it's brake fluid and oil changed back in September of 2022 and its been pretty conservative driving 40 miles a day.
The paint on Japanese cars is often no where near as good
Exactly
After ten years my GLK350 doesn't recognize either Go key, can't wait to see how much that will cost😬 At least I can still unlock it and drive it😍 Oh BTW it warps the rotors every 20,000 miles because it keeps brake pads closer to rotors in cruise control or Sport Mode. It really sucks, bad design.
My dad's camry lasted 17 years. Very solid, but it was a boring car. To be fair, it didn't actually fail. Just the repair bills were beyond the car's value.
I'd rather have a Mercedes but sell it before warranty expires.
V6 Camry is more lively than the 4 banger.
Take the emblem off the Mercedes and put it on the camry. It will then last forever.
Or swap engines
@@yournightmare9999 what about all the other crappy parts on the merc
@@lesmotley6839 yeah so better just swap emblem easiest and fastest way 🤣👍
Just came to tell that here in Finland a 500'000 km driven mercedes is normal while on Toyotas its more rare.
What's the price difference? 2 Toyotas for 1 Mercedes?
40K for the Toyota as is and the Mercedes was about 50K as is
Step 1: *don't drive it*
Step 2: success
I agree with your points in this Video, I will also agree with the Quality of new Vehicle's is definitely taking a hit, With the Cost increases due to inflation for raw materials for most Car's I noticed the seat materials are not going to last like in the past, Due Comfortably complaints softer materials are being used hence the durability will automatically take a back seat, I'm talking about a 2020 Civic compared to a 2005 the difference is almost 100%, 50 for sure.🌞
I’m wondering how many of these reliable Mercedeses will last 300 -400 000 miles without major repairs.
I bet not even one
Dude my Toyotas and Hondas don't go that long without an issue. Hell the majority of the population doesn't even have that many miles on their car
Great vid! Thanks for your insightful advice.
you are very welcome
Buying a Toyota, you will usually have all of the above😂
Don't get me wrong, I love Mercedes too in terms of elegance, pleasure to drive and the looks inside the cabin, but don't compare how long the car will last.
My front brakes pads last 140000km when I bought my 4Runner new and replace the rotors at 220000km. Can a Mercedes or BMW do that? Absolutely not!
A Nissan GTR will last around the track longer than a porsche so Japan still wins.
HAHAAHA. needed a good laugh. the same GTR that has a limit on the launch control before they void your warranty?
A 911 turbo S or GT2RS would eat a GTR and be better daily drivers.
Good joke.
I had this view for long that a Mercedes Benz is no match for Toyota in term of 1.Solid body metal,2.High performance brake Caliper,3 and Long record of Engine and Gear box design better than that Toyota CVT ,but I have no plat form to say it out. Please tell Scott KILMER this message
Today's narrative is of the highest caliber vocabulary you've ever exhibited.🤩
Wow, thank you!
🙂👍
Nothing beats the he Mercedes blue paint. Oh and hand wash your car when you can.
I agree it’s great
I have 2012 Mercedes s550 40,000 miles on odometer I will do my pm B flush fluids and follow maintenance as instructed in owners manual love my Benz drives like nothing else. Owned Lexus & bmw and all cars have problems , take care of it.
Nice video. Can you do the same for BMW.
Sure, why not
got to disagree.....got a 21 camry...very reliable
Mark, you read my wishes.😘
Cheers
Great points, many. Mercs are actually quite reliable but maintenance is a must.
most Mercedes does not have mechanical issue, but there are a lot of ELECTRICAL ISSUES.
@@newchannel1220 That is what we experienced, the rear window screen and a brake light socket, one recall on ball joints.
MB says maintenance/oil change every 10k miles or 1 year.. how much more often should I change it instead? Also what are you thoughts on the 2029 GLC300?
So it’s just the word money at the end of the day
Mercedes are nice expensive comfortable cars, but unless it is an 80's or older model I just do not see them ever outlasting a Toyota no matter what you do to them.
Great point for longevity Toyota and Lexus reign
I had a Camry and now I have a Mercedes. There’s no comparison in terms of comfort, luxury, and performance. I haven’t had any mechanical problems with the Mercedes. I’ll probably never own another Toyota.
What engine configurations are the reliable and which ones should we stay away from?
The Mercedes will cost twice the price of a Camry, no sense in comparing them, plus the Camry is not a Japanese car, it's made in America reason why is not as reliable as Japanese made Toyotas.
I’m floating around the lake all day on twin big blocks , what’s the point of having a Toyota waiting for me at the dock.
Toyota resale value kills all the Europeans made..the best hybrid in the world..most of the parts in BMW Benz engines is had plastics.
Thanks and very aware of all these aspects. Cheers
@@ECPP Then what the f*** are you trying to say by your videos? Gain "Likes"? Just say that rich people are proud that they can have vehicles that require a super-colossal wallet. That is the only point of these cars. Of course, they are "fun to drive" as some say.
Keep BMW and MB parked is the only way
I love the Mercedes c300 but that's too much stress for luxury
Yes
I do not agree at all!!! as we all know that Mercedes class C is an entry level 😂 you didn’t even use the right horse for your competition 🎉
Excellent video.
Change the emblems ?
How long do you plan to keep the mercedes? My GLA is 3 and half year old works fine but no warranty anymore
Comparing Mercedes to Toyota is apples and oranges with how much you pay for a Mercedes I hope it's built better
Never will a Mercedes outlast a Toyota!
Well…..
Hi sir
I love your reviews, and wish you would do a review on 2020 gmc with a 8 speed transmission that was slipping transmission from 1st gear 2 gear,I know gmc is getting sued for this issue + plus a shudder when slowing down,I traded it for a 2024 gmc Sierra 1500 Denali 10 speed, I want to genuinely know whether I traded for the a better truck, I am a gmc that, and I want to know the truth no matter what it is. I heard that gmc and Ford worked together too build the transmission, let me know what's going on with the 2024 gmc Denali, its also the 5.3 engine like my older slt,but I get worse gas mileage on the new one, even though there the same engine, please please do a review, much appreciated sir, later my friend !!!
It's never the vehicle. It's only the owner.. End quote.
That is a huge part of it
Exactly take care your car and it will last
Hi, do you have any experience with run flat tyres (MOE) vs. non run flat (MO) in 19 inch regarding comfort on your Mercedes? I have to change my stock Pirelli Pzero's MOE, so have to decide to stick to Pirelli or to go for Good Year Asymm 5 MO. Thanks!
I changed them on’my GLA for conventionals tires and it is much more confortable and less noisy
"Here how i make a Mercedes outlast a Toyota". Empty your wallet.😁😁
Haha, it will take some cash for sure especially with pricey parts.
@@ECPP 👍😁
Any car will outlast a Toyota if you're willing to dump the money into it. The money you'll pay for upkeep on the Merc, you can easily upkeep the Toyota and buy another car besides.
Me too Toyota last longer
Sad point MAINTENANCE on the cedes is extremely high.........5x's the cost of the bullet proof toyota & Do- Not require Premium bumb gas all in the name of Power / BAD Turbos.....get ONLY Naturally Aspirated engines in any manufacturer
NOPE! You're dreaming 😂
I like your videos, but this is a poor comparison in my opinion. Should be the C300 vs Lexus Rc200.
Not easy comparing Mercedes with a Toyota. Lexus maybe. I would choose the Toyota or Lexus all week long. MB charges too much. I don’t like giving my hard earned money away.
How? Don't drive the Mercedes. 😂
Ouch
Another foolish comment by a fool.
Toyota all the way
yes
