also theres a big ethical issue if a player is in significant pain and their own medical team tells them they should rest, but the organizations medical team says they can play. Thats what Kawhi left the spurs over. A doctor can’t always identify what the cause of pain or discomfort is, so sometimes you have to rely on the client’s word

Just cause you’re rich from playing a “dumb sport” doesn’t mean you deserve to play injured or retire as a cripple with cte. Teachers and nurses not making money is deflecting the real issue, or numerous issues with society, government, taxes, etc. NBA makes money and compensation is premium, makes no sense to hate on that fraternity for doing right by its members. I LOVE chuck and definitely respect him. And he makes GREAT points. But I’ve been working as a personal trainer who specializes in strength and conditioning and there’s SO much new science coming out recently that a lot of these old school guys (respectfully) don’t know about.
With athletes, weightlifters, powerlifters, bodybuilders or anybody who really dedicates a lot of their time into any physical activity, it is very advantageous to give your bodies a break every once in a while. In weightlifting it’s referred to as deloading…you guys can google this term if you’d like. But the idea is our bodies accumulate physical fatigue over time and for most people it’s between 4-8 weeks where we need to lower our volume and intensity to let our body recover. These deloads last 1 week and once it’s over you can come back fresh and ready to be extremely affective in whatever you’re doing, in this case it’s basketball. Sure these players can tough it out through these “deload weeks” and they’ll still be pretty affective but these load management techniques that are being applied has saved your favorite player from getting injured multiple times.
