ColorSpouce The boringness is part of the humor. If I were giving students one F O'C story, it wouldn't be this. try The Life You Save May Be Your Own. It's on Yt.
I cannot say thank you enough for taking the time to read this, I was practically in tears over having to read this when I'm so tired and then I found this and it was reprieve. Much much much thanks!
Thank you for reading this, it was an assignment for a class of mine and I couldn't bring myself to get through the first two pages. You got me through the whole thing! thanks a bunch!
Thanks for recording this, it's really helpful for my English Lit class! I still can't get over the ending, she was basically stranded in the loft and it's kind of open ended so idk if she got down somehow or if she just, like, starved to death up there.
Anyone want to discuss the story ? Like wow . I cannot believe he did that to her - I’m in shock - she showed him her deepest secret and she trusted him - and he turned out to be so dirty and stole her leg
It was a shocking ending but.......Joy got her comeuppance. Joy had pegged Pointer as a country rube and someone she could easily seduce and strip him of his "Christianity". However, Pointer in his own way was far more clever than Joy in that he perpetrated on her the same kind of indignity that she had planned for him. After I ended the reading......I was struck with this thought.......after Joy had "lost" her leg.....was in a barn loft......and some distance from her house.......and it was a rural area........HOW was she able to get home? O'Connor leaves that chilling conclusion to our imagination. AND.....even beyond that, her mother and Ms. Freeman would have viewed her in a completely different light. A really nasty conclusion all the way round!
I didn’t like her through most of the story, but the way that final scene between them was written made me feel scared for her. I guess that’s the point though. The characters are all complex and have good and bad traits. Nobody is that “simple.”
I'm kind of confused as to like how old that guy was and the way she lied and said she was minor and tried to seduce him. This whole story is just really weird and unsettling to me.
Hey there. I really enjoyed your reading here. Please tell me how you do this with or without copyright approval. I want to record short stories and put them on RUclips or a podcast. I do not want to monetize or profit from it. I simply want to do it for the art of it.
I think as long as you credit the author/artists involved you should be ok. These are just me "readings" of the subject material. So in a way it's like "performance art". Again, just make sure to credit the right person(s) involved!
@@MovieMan101, thanks for your reply. First, Good Country People is a top 5 Flannery story for me. Next, in my recordings, I give credits to author, publisher, and year at the beginning. Like you, I feel it is simply performance art. I'm not a pro and don't want to profit from it. I like finding voices and characterizations just for the art of it. Again, thanks for your reply.
I did a review on it last year that may help. I looked at it through a more contemporary lens though, focusing on how we'd process the themes today (even themes around asexuality). There's another review by CodeX Cantina that explores it from the perspective of Flannery O'Connor's life at the time. Hope these links help! The reading is too fast. When reading a story for others, it's good to read at an average, steady speed. It gives the reader a chance to grasp the words & understand the concept and the content of the story.
Agreed, I have a tendency to speak quickly over long period of dialogue when I should be pacing. Sometimes I don't even notice that I'm doing it, but I've been attempting to apply that towards future readings and articles and such. I digress, thanks for the input!! :)
Ralecia Ogburn ***** personally I have a lot of short stories to read through in a short number of days so I'm glad the reading was not dragged out. Granted I'm reading along, which changes things.
I’m listening to this at 2x speed bc I am in a hurry. My point is you can change the speed that you play it at instead of complaining. Be nice to people.
Mans is singlehandedly saving college students across the nation, lol.
lol appreciate it, just trying to help!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS. college kid here. Didn't feel like reading this story because it's pretty boring. Thank you.
ColorSpouce happy to help!

Wow if you don't engage your brain when you are young you are fucked.
That's your opinion
How does the story being read aloud, alter how boring or interesting you view/judge the content?
wrote two papers last night and did 4 readings and now i'm finishing my last two. seriously thank you so much omg
Happy to help!
As a disabled person, this story is creepy as hell. Come to think of it? So are all the other Flannery Oconner books I've read😳
I'm so over my American Literature class this is what I've succumb to
Thank you it's much easier reading along because I was unmotivated to read this without audio
Nah bruh that ending is insane 😭
I cannot say thank you enough for taking the time to read this, I was practically in tears over having to read this when I'm so tired and then I found this and it was reprieve. Much much much thanks!
I'm pretty old, but I didn't know how plausible this story was until the internet. She knew it back then.
This is very well read. I don't mind the ambient noise and occasional hiccups. I like the pace and inflection in key points. Good job.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for listening to one of my older read-throughs :)
I disagree read too fast as if rushing to the end.
a little late, but I love how you read all the short stories I have to read for English Comp 2.
Indeed
Me ( reads to the end)
Well, that could have been much worse.
Thank you for reading this, it was an assignment for a class of mine and I couldn't bring myself to get through the first two pages. You got me through the whole thing! thanks a bunch!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the view!
Great Job, thank you for reading the story. I am appalled that some people are so rude.
Elizabeth Tillman I appreciate it, and it's all good, everyone has their own opinion and you can't make everyone satisfied :)
MovieMan101pro Trying to is a big mistake.
Agreed lol
Thanks for recording this, it's really helpful for my English Lit class!
I still can't get over the ending, she was basically stranded in the loft and it's kind of open ended so idk if she got down somehow or if she just, like, starved to death up there.
Thanks. You have very nice reading voice.

Awesome. Saved me time knocked out on the drive to class from work! +1
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!

Thank you, college student
Thank you for uploading this!
Sure thing! Glad I could help!
thank God we have this video, if it's this boring while listening to it, can't imagine how boring it is to read it
You the real MVP! Thanks.
hey thanks for the upload. first short story i had to read for eng 102. read it once, then came here to listen to someone else read it.
Anyone want to discuss the story ? Like wow . I cannot believe he did that to her - I’m in shock - she showed him her deepest secret and she trusted him - and he turned out to be so dirty and stole her leg
I know, the ending is sad.

@@kamii_kaizen If she could fool him into thinking she was 17, I wouldn't be surprised if he were much older too. It's hard to imagine though.
Thank you for reading this. Your a lifesaver
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!
I don't know, I thought it was an enjoyable pace
Thanks for that, it was hard for me since I am only in 9th grade, but this really helped my read it better and really comprehend this story :)
Glad it helped! Thanks for listening
Freaking Hilarious! I love F.O'C.!
Thanks for making this bearable
Flannery O'Connor wrote what everyone thought, but just did not dare say.
I've always loved this story
Thanks, chief.
Thank you! Great story!
Happy to help!
If a story doesn’t grab me in five minutes, I don’t read it anymore. This is 6 minutes. Bye good country people
You made it more easy for me
Glad I could help, thanks for the view!
Thank you so much, this just saved me.
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!

College student here, thanks for reading me this book, cuz I couldn't read this shitty ass book, soooo boring.
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!
Thank you for this!
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!
I am so confused. What is the point of this story? If this is the best of American literature, I am quite ashamed.
I fell like the point of this story is to never assume the innocence of one you don’t know, for they can be hiding dark ulterior motives.

She didn't have a leg to stand on!
After reading a couple of pages I got confused with the names and I had to start again. Mrs Freeman / Mrs Freeman's daughter....am I alone here?
Anyone know what some possible themes are?

Yo, thank you ao much bro
Thanks for the view, glad I could help!
Flannery O'Connor is spelt with two Os not with and "e" like in the title.
I love how I can hear all that sweet salvia smacking in your mouth as you speak every word
elr1cbros I suppose the very thought of Flannery O'Conner forces me to salivate in apprehension... that or I gotta work on developing cotton mouth....
Fuck dude....you ruined it for me now hahah
Thank you
Happy to help!
Street smarts trump a PhD in philosophy
