Thank you as never heard this version before. Gosh in Summer ‘74 at 24 living back in Malibu surfing & waiting tables … Layla defined my life … playing it full blast driving a ‘66 dark green mustang on PCH … I was so lost no idea what to do with my life, never fitting in anywhere except the surfing outsider world … Layla captured all of my complex emotions I didn’t not know what to do with. In fact, it’s a huge wonder I did not become an alcoholic or druggie. This gentler version is beautiful.
I am 24 living in 24’ feeling the same way you felt when you were younger …. 50 years apart ! I don’t have the chance to live in the golden area of music but I can at least listen to those record on the internet , feels like a time machine ! You sir take care of yourself and keep rockin 🤘
This is like ultra rare indeed! That solo was just something else. 24 nights were so unique in themselves since RAH is like Eric's home, he performs like a king there which he in fact is😍
The richness, the fullness, the heartfelt accompaniment of the orchestra, I think Eric‘s guitar work is absolutely complemented. I don’t know if it’s the best of his playing but it’s certainly got a world of emotion in it!
When this first aired, I think BBC radio 1 broadcast the whole concert in full. Quite simply 12 minutes plus of complete and utter musical dreamland, right from Nathan Easts solo introduction, to the mesmerising orchestral part 2.one of the few clips of music that bribgs tears of joy to my eyes.
Yes. BBC radio 1 broadcast this whole concert in full. This is a perfect recording of that outstanding concert. Fantastic CD of the February 10 1990 concert.
This is right at the beginning of Clapton's last truly great period. Starting with 24 Nights and then From the Cradle, for the best part of the 90s, EC was absolutely on fire. The Unplugged / Robert Johnson acoustic stuff is very nice, but he totally got his fire back as an electric blues player. Some of his work during these years is as good as anything he did with John Mayall and Cream, obviously not as groundbreaking but technically and emotionally some of his greatest playing, especially live.
This end part is literally the most unbelievable touching part of any song I've ever heard. It screams I love you without a word. How the heck can it bring me to tears? I'm really not that expressive with emotions.
Marnie Causey This is the first song I ever played for my wife. Only after we got together, I told her the story of how the song came to be. We've been married for 9 years now.
yes !!we are all on ometimes and then not so its common with all people steve ferguson of nrbq wow when on he was great but when not still very good its not a contest its about lets love one another !!
I have always wanted an extended version of the 24 Nights CD. I knew of the Genesis books thing and finally was smart enough to look on youtube to find the extra tracks. Thanks for posting.
DasGoldenBoy this song is from a live BBC CD made in Luxembourg of Feb 10 1990 of Orchestra night. I don’t think you can find it anywhere else on RUclips except my 10bohemian channel. Enjoy.
yes!!from the cradle thwe song by dylan born in timemy god he nails it but when he covered a lightfoot song looking at the rain wow what guts eric has but hetrook it odff the money and ciggs album abd tried to relaese it later again took it off the album
The whole Layla story is such sad thing, because in the end, after Eric and Patti found each other they get divorced, and the tragic part is that Patti couldn't have a baby, and became an alcoholic while Eric had an affair with another Women and she went pragnant, which broke Pattis heart.... understandable....Ray Coleman wrote a bio about Eric and Named it Survivor. It is the best book about Erics Life and Music, together with his own book. The Reason why i was writing this,is,because after i was reading this story that i told you,i had a different look on Layla. The book of Nizami is real nice.Anyway the worst part of the Song to me personal is the fact that Eric gave the music to Opel Cars for a commercial TV Spot years ago.... anyway nice Version.I had a Bootleg from the 24 London Alberthall Shows 1990,where Eric played exactly this version in the same sound quality... however my personal favorite.. Version of Layla is the one he did on the Crossroads 2 live in the seventies 4cd boxset. It is fire, oh yeah Living on Blues Power🎙🎸🎵👌
The Pattie Boyd of today claims that while Eric whoo her from Harrison (who became not present) and then when with Eric, he became not present. But that her heart was always for Harrison. Heck, they were all so young and maintaining a famous musical career isn’t for long term relationships.
eric can hang with them all stevie ray was wondeful but repeats himself toward the end but....steve feguson is the greatest guitarist in rock ever!!!! clapton thought so!!!so di hendrix!!
Wow. Where the heck did you find this. It's the perfect and perhaps the only way to explain to people why they call him God. You made my day by posting this. It's VERY rare for me to find a version that I haven't heard before. Have a great day!
always more melodic than stevie ray wow riveria sunset and stormy monday blues hes on there too and lay dawn sally lol the only solo i could never copy
strato92 Thank you for the information. Musicians often borrow from each other. In this case - it is the perfect intro to the orchestra version of Layla.
@@10bohemianYou are right professor. But so is Strato. No need to be sarcastic or patronizing. But please do keep up the good work with the music. Thank you for posting.
10bohemian no problem man haha. It’s not like it was bad for every line he sang, but sometimes he would be singing before the lyrics would show. Sorry if I was rude about it. You rock
Truly, one of the most haunting and graceful love songs in rock history.
❤Tout à fait , oui c'est le mot "" gracieuse""!❤
Can't wait for the soon to be released 24 Nights Extended Releases this June.
❤🎶🎸BOULEVERSANT 🎸🎶❤Il devait se sentir comme le roi du monde ce soir là ; lui le grand mélomane !!!!!❤

CLAPTON'S phrasing is truly a gift that only a few possess. Knopfler is another one.
!!!! I have no words... that Dire Straits intro is unbelievable!! ....and then Jaco...

Nathan's bass intro - oh my goodness. Brings me close to tears.
Oh, to have only been there! That must have been an experience like no other. Best version I have ever heard. PS- I miss live music.
Any Layla's version is a Good version.

I personally prefer the 80s Princes Trust Knopfler version this Intro reminds me of Yesterday- Where are troubles when they're far Away
Mine is from the twelfth night with Mark Knopler

The first intro till 1'40 is totally imported from Knopfler's Romeo and Juliet

If you're going to put up lyrics, put them up right before he begins the line. This way if someone wants to sing along they can.
Thank you for the feedback. I will do that in future videos.
Lane Wilder I thank you greatly for this advice and I have tried to improve on this in my videos.
