Dan, 2 questions - Is the new version of the 1 person a bit wider than the previous version? For the next drop, is there a way to limit how many tents folks can buy? Price gouging by resellers is bound to happen as these are going for double on Amazon and eBay resell.
@@mikeadams9036 Hi Mike. Our next production run of the X-Mid 1P arrives in about 3 months and that will be the launch of the second generation which is going to be more spacious (wider, longer, taller) while keeping the footprint the same size. We'll release all the details of it at the time of the launch, but yes the new version of the 1P is wider. Certainly there is a lot of price gouging on, but it isn't really because resellers have snapped them up in the past. The resellers on Amazon didn't actually have tents - they are just computer programs that list popular thing for exorbitant prices and then if someone orders they try to source it for less, which they can't do so the orders get cancelled. We checked our sales history and we had 1 or 2 cases of someone buying 5 which we think was boy scouts, and the rest was sales of 1-2. Most of the scalping on eBay etc is from real owners who realize they can make a quick profit and then buy another when it's back in stock. So yes we are going to limit sales to 1-2 tents, but I don't think it'll change much. Our next production run will sell out quickly and then we'll be sold out for a while again. We have been ordering a lot more tents over the past year, but with supply chain backlogs it'll be another year until our much larger runs start arriving. As always, we recommend signing up for the stock notification emails on DurstonGear.com. The tents are no longer sold on Drop.
@@durstongear I've been patiently waiting for months now. Pretty sure I'm not alone either - I hope you have enough in production, because you're sitting on something pretty good here! Top work with the tent mate. Im snaffling one up the instant they appear online :)
This has been my go-to shelter for the last 3 years. My only gripe with it is the size of the footprint -- it can be a little hard to find space to pitch it if you're dispersed camping. That was a tradeoff I was willing to make for the enormous interior and vestibule space, but it's something that's good to know.
Yeah, you do have to be a little lucky sometimes finding a good spot. I went from a Six Moons Lunar Solo to this. And honestly, it’s easier to find space with the XMid because it only requires 4 stake points. With Lunar Solo I had some trouble finding good spots due to the rear stake point.
@@LostAgainwithJim True! My buddy hikes with the LS and we've had this very conversation. Still, it's a very small complain for what you get. I love this shelter.
@@LostAgainwithJim Sounds like a good decision. You got a bit more flexibility with the 2p for a little extra weight. Had the 2p been available when I bought my tent I would have sprung for it.

I like the design but for a tent pole tent it’s on the heavy side for my liking. My Duplex is about 18 oz yes I know it cost way more but it’s also made in the USA employing American. My view if your going to go light go all the way. I am retired and do long distance trips with my dog and we both fit great with all our gear. I do like the way they offset their poles to give you that spacious floor. I just wish they did not make them in China. I can see why people like them but to be honest it’s about the same weight as my old Tiger Wall.

You can, however the XMid doesn’t have a set pole height. It’s dependent on the campsite your in. It’s kind of nice being able to adjust the pitch by adjusting the pole length. With fixed length poles you may find your pitch is too taut or not taut enough depending on your site choice. @@LostAgainwithJim and it didn't cost my soul, just my left arm. I didn't use it much anyway.
Nice! I hope it all works out! Since making this video I’ve had the shelter out a lot more, and I enjoy it so much! I took out on the Lost Coast Trail most recently and it was awesome even in the high coastal winds.
@@LostAgainwithJim I've seen a lot of video or comments of people being out in high winds and rains and it not even budging. I can't wait to try it out. I'm going on a trip in 10 days so it was perfect timing.
What I don't get... once you add 2 trekking poles... it's no longer UL .. so for the $ why not just get a freestanding? 🙄🧑🦯🤷♂️ I don't understand 😂
I’d carry the trekking poles anyway. So they aren’t ’added’. Free standing would add the extra weight of the pole set.
