- The 2024 election saw independent candidates contesting for seats in Parliament for the first time in voting history. 16 submissions were received by the IEC for the candidates to campaign but only a few made it to the provisional lists. 5 national candidates and 6 provincial seats were approved by the independent electorate.
So how well did some of the independents do and how was their overall experience in the elections?
Anele Mda and Thanasagren Moodley ran as independents in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
