But the tone still makes him seem unreachable, no matter what his language may say. Because not just anyone will do, whoever chooses him must also prove themselves as well. He doesn’t ask, he demands someone to take the challenge with the “give me the thing that I love” line.This seems clear even before Yuri comes into the picture. An unsatisfied and lonely prince. But anyone else viewing the performance would just accredit it to his masterful skill to be able to replicate such deep emotion and would never suspect it genuine. And because no one can reach or understand him, he starts to implode on himself…and he starts losing what it was he loved - canonically, he has lost his motivation and cannot make it what he wants it to be any longer. In a way, just like Yuri, Victor is starting to give up on himself too in this frustration. But the show must go on. Contrast that with the initial “practicing” skating sessions…he looks happier a bit, probably because it isn’t a competition of course, but also I see even the small smiles and teasing remarks (i.e. piggy) as kind of a poker face (another Lady Gaga song wow) to silently hide his hope for Yuri so he can remain objective until both are satisfied.

It was as though he was telling a story of people leaving him when he just wanted one person to be the one in the stands, cheering the loudest of all of the people there. Fans appreciate him for his skating, but nothing more. Now, enter Yuuri. At the end of the Grand Prix final, he declined when Victor (his idol, mind you) offered him the chance for a commemorative photo. Right off the bat, I think Victor realized that there was something different about that one fan. He probably pushed the thought to the back of his mind, though, until he saw the video. At that moment, he decided that Yuuri Katsuki was going to be his inspiration for whatever career moves he might make next. He saw himself in Yuuri and decided that he wanted to BE the one person that HE always wanted, while forging him into someone that he could actually connect with on a more personal level.
Interesting - have you read the translation of "Stay Close To Me"? When I really started understanding the nitty gritty details of Victor's character...damn, it's so heartbreaking. I have read a few analyses and just the more you consider about him the worse it gets, but also the happier you are for him when things with Yuri are so nice!

As a former ballet dancer, my heart just jumped a little because I have never seen an anime character expressing so much through movement alone. It makes me nostalgic because I know how it feels. His way of dancing on ice is so elegant, so smooth and so emotional. I just came here to see him skate one more time, because he's so, so freakin amazing.

Is it just me who still comes back to watch this masterpiece and read through most of the comments with the hopes of finding other recent comments? Breaks my heart to think it's already been 8 years, but makes me genuinely happy to see there's at least 1 more person out there who still cares about YOI as much as i do... To the point of coming back to it after so long and, despite latest news, still hope for the miracle of being able to see them again in the future. Before YOI i never understood when someone said this certain show, character or story changed their lives, i thought people were crazy to be THAT much involved with "just" fiction... But i was so fking wrong. YOI did change my life forever, tho it's crazy to think about it. I cry every time i read a comment where the person says YOI changed their lives too... Makes me feel close to them, even tho by this time most of the comments are so many years old. Anyway, i just felt like this was the right place to share this.
