Kansas Thunderstorms

- I shot this with my HD camcorder June 10th, 2007 at 1AM. The video is mostly looking Northeast at the radio towers West of Maize. The real cool lightening starts at 3:13 into the video. The first few minutes has great thunder claps though. Make sure you crank up your speakers! Of course the HD content looks a lot better...
Don't you just love the sound of thunder? I think its very soothing...
Especially when it sounds like the sky s really cracking open!

Ugh. I remember being in Kansas for 2 weeks one summer when I was really young and it being like this almost every night and a couple of nights my dad had taken me and my brothers to a cemetery to watch it. It was seriously the coolest thing I had ever seen. I had always loved thunderstorms but I'm born and raised in WA so I have never seen anything to this extent here.
I definitely want to go back just to see this in person again.

man this is the stuff i used to live in Wichita. i live cali now and boy they dont know what a storm is man cant wait to get home
most people would probably grow tired waiting for the next flash. This gives an interesting view of how the arcs actually move which are hard to see cause it happens so fast. The audio occurs in real time; the slo-mo is just there to fill the dead video time. Thanks for your point of view though.

Yep i remember this night i used to work at presbyterian manor and i remember getting off work and laying in bed listing to the storm roll through...gosh now i live in CA and they wouldnt know what a storm was if one smacked them in the face!!! I MISS KANSAS

i live in vancouver on the west coast, and the last actual thunderstorm we had was mid July, 2000. went for eight hours after sunset i think. i missed it though, i was in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, but I saw the lightning from that far away. i wish i lived in kansas -_-

This is a really hot time of year, so storms are not that frequent. You'll see more action May, June, September and October. Rest of the year is not that exciting, thunderstorm wise. Although, I remember a December or January in 99 or 00 that there was a thunderstorm when it was snowing! That was quite memorable for many people that lived here then.

Oh man, we had a good storm last week! Lightning hit a tree near my school's dining hall and knocked down a couple limbs! I'm a commuter so I didn't see it happen, but I heard about it and then yesterday it rained all day long and one of my classes got cancelled, so I sat outside one of the buildings and watched it pour for the whole hour til my next class! And just that morning, my friends and I were talking about playing in the rain, we weren't together though. :( Next time!

As a matter of fact, there was a pretty wild storm last night that I took still pics of. I'm working on the video as I type this! I LOVE KANSAS WEATHER!
You'll see more lightening as you get closer to Flordia (due to humidity), but we have powerful storms due to the gulf moisture mixing with marching cold fronts that move through. BTW, don't move here just for our storms...you'll be fairly disappointed with everything else to do in the city.

kansas and other states in tornado alley has great thunderstorms than the northeast
