Finally an E46 M3!!!
Any manual sports car deserves an instant like !
Amazing how just the name change alone elevates the quality of the video. Keep up the good work.
You can never go wrong with this E46 generation of the 3 series and the M3. It is my favourite M3 vehicle by far~ Very cool looking, simple design, interior and exterior~ It's all about the driving, and BMW nailed it with this E46 M3. And that famous BMW inline 6 engine is just a beast~
Even though this was posted a year ago, I just watched it last night. I have a 2002 E46 M3 (same color, the black/blue, that your friend has but my interior and pedals are more posh). I bought the car used and have had it 14 1/2 years now. I've only had a handful of mechanical issues during that time. In three cases the car was deemed "undriveable" but it drove beautifully. It's a very reliable car and exceedingly well made. Worth the cost of maintenance!
I am thinking buying one of these do these have a lot of problems i am going to daily drive it
@@nudehunter8057 In my experience, I have had very little problems with my E46 M3. As I stated above, I've had the car for 14.5 years and have had only a handful of mechanical problems during that time (and the car always performed beautifully). My car is now 17 years old (it's a 2002 model but was first purchased in November 2001). I have 126K miles on it. I won't lie, maintenance is very costly (most years I spend about $4K but this year I got away with about $2000) but it's totally worth it - it's such a great car and it's really fun to drive.
Thank for tip looking forward to get one in the future
Years later I’m reading your comment debating if I should buy one… lol
@@LAEdgar About 2.5 years ago I had to put the car on non-op. The electric monitoring system went out and there is some other big issue that needs a take out engine repair. However, the car still performed well and I got a big azz speeding ticket two days before I disengaged the battery. I'm planning on spending the $10K-$15K fixing the engine because it's such an awesome car to drive - I'm going to wait until I'm out of the three year period of the ticket because I know that as soon as I get behind the wheel I'll most likely get another one.
There are certain years to avoid, 2002 being one of them, due to rod bearing issues. There was a recall but for some reason my mechanic thinks my car wasn't fixed (I'll follow up on this) so do your research. To me, the car is worth the money. The drive of an E46 M3 is similar to a Dual Motor Tesla 3 but the engine sounds so much nicer and purrs - I've never heard anything like it with other muscle cars.
BMW E46 and E39 are best ever made
Great review! An E39 M5 review would be awesome because of your in-depth style of videos!
Alex Pascutiu hell ya
I second this !
Definitely! E39 M5 review is a must
Agree the exhaust is fantastic, these cars are some of the best sounding on the road when they don't have raspy exhausts.
MRFUCKOFF202 ya best sounding no doubt have had people say "i thought it was some kind of exotic" when id show up to hang out with friends/go to car meets. If you got the wrong set up though they sound like doodoo.
I live for that smile you make when you turn down those backroads
My only gripe with BMW and all the German makes is the reliability. Glad to see this one has held up.
TheHvk Its held up because it hasn't really been driven. My 04 has 107,000 mls and subframe cracks and rod bearing failure. My rear diff seems like it needs seals every year.Don't buy a m3 unless you're willing to spend many thousands of dollars on repairs that shouldn't be needed.
BMW's Golden era car. Though the E90 was a great car, I think this was the best M3 ever made
FlyinGato the e36 🎪😉😉
E36 is also a good one, but I think the E46 was the pinnacle with more horsepower and better chassis
FlyinGato cant get over the fact there is no sedan
=Me too, the SMG is are great gearbox aswell
all round package e46 . e36 cost as much as are e46 in my country now
My uncle had one of these back in 2005 fantastic car. All 8000 revs used to excite me as a kid.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW!!!
By far my favorite M3 of all time. That wonderful straight 6!!
I'm going to change my channel name to SubaruWRXFan and do car reviews
Good luck, mispronouncing subaruwrxfan really fast is harder than it looks :)
I tried it every video
Yeaa lmaoo
Evo is better
that car has aged very well
Never clicked on a video so quickly
WHATS UP everybody SUBABRBRBRUUURWRX.......oh wait
subrudubyarexfan
his new name *does* sound more professional, but the SUBARRBBUUBXRX slogan will be missed..
Samie yeah, what happened?
Samie GOD DAMMIT
I LOVE SUBBBBIRU WRX
You should review a E39 BMW M5.
Ripa moramee helllllll ya
If only he was in Michigan, I'd let him review my E39 M5 and 540i at the same time. Can't beat the E46 and E39 ///M cars.
@@647killa If I was there I would like to race my 540i vs your M5.
What would be the point in that ?
YES !!!
the E46 was the last great M3 ever
pontiacGXPfan nah e9x m3 was the last great m3. Honestly tho the new one is much more refined and wayyyy wayy wayyy faster cant even complain. Just lacks sound this newest one otherwise im sure it wouldve been as good as the e92 or better.
Theres never been a great M3.Great means that Bmw actually tested the car before releasing it for sale.Testing would've highlighted the weaknesses in the e46m3 platform.Rod bearing failure, subframe failure, rear diff failure ect. That says more about the company than the car because the e92m3 and e36m3 suffered from some of the same problems. The e36m3 had subframe failures the e92 has the same rod bearing failures and the same rear diff failures. The v10 m5 and m6 have the same rod bearing failures.THAT really says more about the company than the car.
@@realisrealite5554 F8x generation is bulletproof though
@@realisrealite5554 ok? it's still a great car. Also, please name a sports car that doesn't have any issues. I'll wait.
@@Enthusiastlist lmao what? Bmw is a shit company that leaves their testing to the consumer smh and I drive a 135.
Subframes shouldn’t be cracking and engines shouldn’t be blowing up. Bmw has more issues then most and the fact that your argument was “all cars have issues’ is crazy.
What a pity the E46 suffered from MASSIVE rear sub-frame cracking issues that BMW were covering up and NOT announcing a recall due to protecting its BMW brand putting its customers & the public in potential danger....
Great review. Its amazing to see how far these cars have come since 2002.
Actually they went backwards...
Your intro still has the subaruwrxfan water mark.
ImpendingDisaster26 he left it there on purpose
WC Herrera I know he did, it just contradicts the whole name change. Why go through all the trouble of creating a new name with an intro and banner ,if you're not going to change the name on the main intro video. Granted I'm sure he will change it in due time since the name change is still new. I just think that if you're going to do something, go the full measure and not half measure imo
ImpendingDisaster26 I think his paying homage to how he got to where he is
who cares?damn its no big deal, stop moaning
I love the sound from those E46 M3's. Absolutely a car i want to own very soon
well did u get one?
Haven't been by the channel in awhile and noticed the name change and new intro. Much more professional and polished!
Matt, the car your driving is in my top 3 for "modern" classics and if it were in LSB, with those wheels, would make me really envy you!
I know you have to use the word "dated" because you were in what, 6th grade when this was new? PLEASE keep in mind that the "Ultimate Driving Machine" moniker was still deserving back when this was new, oh how the mighty have fallen.
Really enjoy the reviews and news segments, keep up the good work and hope the channel continues to grow!
Awesome car. Good job Matt!!!
You haven't had your old lady in a vid for awhile.
YES YES YES YES Been waiting on a proper review on one of these!!
I remember lusting after this car back in the day. Awesome car.
FINALLY!!!!!!! YESSSSSS IVE BEEN BUGGING YOU FOR THIS REVIEW YEARS!!!!!
Can you do the "WHATS UP EVERYBODY SUBABRBRUWRX" for the one time please or in every video
TheZane03 😂😂😂 so good
@Matt Maran Motoring, you should try to find a 98-01 Acura Inegra Type R to review.
Danny .Lopez lol
E46 M3, a definite classic... always loved them. Enjoyed the review...
At 64k miles in 15 years, I feel like this thing was barely driven all things considered.
TheHvk it looks new.
ikr... I got mine had 100k miles.. 3years later it now have 160k... LOL! daily driven, back and forth from SD to LV.. love it, just gotta do the major maintenance now (rod bearings and vanos) after that I am good for another 100k.
erickrayos and how’ve you found it? Too expensive to maintain?
Good review. I have owned two over the vast 12 yrs. Did you hit the sport button. Makes the throttle way more responsive unless you truly floor it. The 0-60 is around 4.6-4.8. Times are listed to 62mph. The e46 is a great all around car. Not the greatest at anything, but good at everything. In drove the e92 and it felt heav to me.. Althought the v8 is magnificent, the straight 6 is amazing.
FTLAUD 911 theyre not toooo far off in weight but i feel like some confidence has been taken away with visability and driving position. The e46 flows alot nicer overall. Personally i like the sound of the i6 more mainly because of my set up(thing was an f1 car i swear lol).
do the turn signals work tho?
I can confirm, they did work lol.
Finally I've been wanting you to do a e46 m3 forever yesssss
Can't beat a stick shift E46 M3 and E39 M5 for the ultimate driving pleasure ! Both of them are like the greatest hits albums from BMW. Perfect blend of modernism with an analogue driving experience. Pure and uncluttered. Nothing else comes close, unless you start going towards Porsche, Ferrari etc.
647killa the Ultimate Bmw has to be the E30 M3 light, nymbol no useless shit ✌🏻 how a real driverscar should be
I would always agree with an E30. But my point was that the E46 and E39 chassis are the last of the best in terms of modernism and technology. The E30 was bare bones in comparison and not for everyone. Besides, the E46 and E39 had a great selection of engines and 6 speed manuals. So really, for a package that will mostly satisfy a proper petrolhead and someone looking to get groceries or get to work, the above two are still the best from BMW.
My 330ci, the bare bone version of one of these, is inches away from 200k at 197k. Boy is that I6 is running strong.
I REALLY REALLY LOVE MANUAL GEAR SYSTEM BRO!!!!....😎😎😎😎💎💎💎💎
I saw a blue convertible with blue interior E46 on autotrader with only 40k miles and it was only 15 grand.. I was so close to buying it until I found out it would be 5grand a year to insure. Beautiful car🔥
just got my first BMW M3, its a 2002 convertible.
I knew this would be a good review. The E46 M3........ On the short list of my dream cars. I'd do without that exhaust though. Makes that glorious engine sound buzzy.
Von Sterner depends on the set up. My set up was nuts def 100000x better than stock.
Can you do without subframe failure and rod bearing failure. If so never buy e46m3.All e46m3s will have those problems.
For $1000 you can put a state of the art infotainment system with backup camera that will look OEM. Many options too.
whoever detailed that car hats off to you
not loving the exhaust sound. I think the stock one sounds better. Glad you finally got to drive a E46!
gosh Matt those roads u take on your vids are A OK 👌. gotta find some roads like those in Louisville ky. keep up the great reviews.
8:13 is what you want to see.
Thank you.
12:42 was very satisfying also.
love having the older style intro back
Great classic will be a dream car for many and easily obtainable to most
cant wait to get one of these
I VERY VERY LOVE BMW M3 2002 AND IT'S SUPERB V8 ENGINE EXHAUST SOUND BRO!!!!....😎😎😎😎
I don't think anyone would say the m3's were unreliable. It's the cost to own them. Maintenance and replacing parts is ridiculously expensive. Also finding reliable people to work on them isn't easy either.
You can move the original climate control into the little drawer area (it fits perfectly) and put a modern system in the car. BMW themselves did this if you ordered the GPS NAV system back in the day.
About a year ago I was car shopping and found a 6speed 2002 m3 for sale, I looked for reviews and found this one then I was sold on the car
I love the M3 E46 one of my dream modern cars.
i own a 2002 m3 and i love it so much
boston bruck what's your maintenance been like thus far?
I've owned it for 6 months and drove it 4000 miles. I have put about $1000 into it but that was by choice. This car is expensive to maintain. Pretty soon I am doing the vanos system with a buddy for $1200 also the subframe for $1500. At the 100k mile mark, many things start needing to be replaced. It's expensive to maintain, but it runs brand new.
So is it worth getting an e46 for about 11k? At 104,000 miles
@@JoshLunsfordJr NOOO WTF you can find cheaper ones without so much kmh!
Yessssss!!! E46 LIFE! :)
The 2 series and E46 are the same exact size (except height, 2 is taller) so it makes sense that they handle similarly.
I think adding POV's to your reviews would make them a lot better. Ya know, so we can see the road while you talk and stuff.
This was in a class of its own.
Awesome intro dude 👍🏻 i like it more then the other
E46 M3 is my dream car
Im debating buying one of these, I currently have an E46 3 series and LOVE it. The biggest thing holding me back from buying one is not being able to get much power out of it without forced induction :/
I///M Obsessed The M3 E46 is the only Bimmer I’ve personally driven. Can compare it to any other BMWs but I’d say just get it. The speed is cool.. not Corvette fast.. but the handling is why I love driving it. It has 152K miles and still very nimble
Great review Matt! Who gives a damn about infotainment when you got that sweet sounding engine!
Kazak Thranduil a lot of ppl
I have 135k miles on my 03 M3. been very reliable to me =]
I do find it funny how every review on e46 M3 talks about how smooth it is and forgiving it is on bumpy roads... I drive it in NY and i think it damaged my back hah no seriously, the e46 is pretty harsh on NY roads compared to the 2015 4 series.
Looks great. However, that aftermarket exhaust note almost ruined it for me.
Dude heck yeah one only favorite cars ever!
Thanks for the review. That looks like a really nice original car. Ups to the owner.
I have a small bone to pick though. 3:42 It's not at all, not even remotely difficult to do a new "infotainment" system in the E46 M3. There are a shit load of E46 specific after market options out there for touch screen and steering wheel control compatible audio visual/nav systems, as well as excellent console surrounds for neatly re-positioning that climate control (yes, it's modular, not integrated). Happily, most of these are a) very economical given the fact that it's DIY stuff even for the moderately clueless like myself, b) reasonably true to OEM in style and, importantly c) are completely reversible. I have one in my own car and it revolutionises this aspect of the E46 experience with the only possible downside (IMO) being a slight degradation in cabin aesthetics. I prefer the retro look of the original BMW Business unit.
Thanks again for the review. It's always a pleasure to see such a clean example of the M3
Super cool! My best friend owns one of these, I love it.
i want to see a Lexus sc300 or sc400 review
I still regret that I sold my manual mint condition E46 M3 few years back. I had several buyers fighting for the car. Wished I still have it.
He complains about the dated radio, but 15-year-old buttons are way better than a 15-year-old touch screen. At least it's nice and simple.
whats up everybody matt moran here for another car review this is of course
I just uploaded a couple of vids of my LSB which took forever to find. This is probably the only BMW (other than E39 M5) that I would think of owning...
Been waiting for one of these for a while 👍🏻👍🏻
I own both a 11' wrx and a 17' M2, manual, I completely disagree with turbo lag on the M2, power comes subjectively after 2000 rpm
Still one of my dream cars
Best car evaaaa.
Oh good, another E46 M3 review... just what the world needs.
Matthew Sharpe less common than mustangs, Camaros or Corvettes .. Everyone and their unclebrother has one haha 😂
I have a manual FRS currently but I really want one of these as a second car! Seems so fun
Luqman Baig I'm debating whether I should get this or a brz
Luqman Baig used prices are nearly equal. I think e46m would replace frs entirely.
818 sti this is alot faster, more fun, more usable, sounds wayyyy better(if u want a good setup check a few of my videos) and much better built. Add to this the coolness factor of the car and the fact that you wont lose a dime while owning it(assuming u dont have some massive problem) makes it a no brainer over the brz. Pick one up before the price goes up even more.
I hope you detailed the interior for him
the video that I been waiting for keep it up
I'm getting so attached to it I never should of learn more about the M3 and look at it
Wolf Kotto Did you learn about rod bearings failure and subframe failures in as little 60,000 miles and often much sooner?
@@realisrealite5554 lol. Fake news. Never have had to do my subframe or rod bearing on my 2003.5 E46 M3. 210k miles and also supercharged. Rod bearings is more of a cringy kid trend today regarding the E46 M3. Treat the car right, no need. Owned mine for over 10 years. Go home with your fake news kid.
M2 might drive similarly with modern amenities, but doesn't hold a candle on the exterior design to e46 M3.
REALLY REALLY SUPERB BRO!!!!....😎😎😎😎
Straight sixes sound godly
I’m looking 170k miles on a bmw e46 320cd..too much miles you think?
I really, ya know, really, really like these cars. Just like you. Ya know. Really.
dream car
Can you please review the 1995+ nissan 300zx
Awesome review Matt. Awesome car
Even in 2020 the e46 M3 is a great car!
I miss the old BMW, like if you agreee
Moe Reda erone miss the old BMWs
Moe Reda m2 is pretty nice
They old engines yeah but they new body designs is to die for
Pls do the BMW e60 m5. That v10 is something u don't want to miss
Caveman Church for sure and a manual if possible
I like how you kept the subaruwrxfan tag in the beginning intro vid.
I enjoy your reviews Matt! 👍
I missed that intro music. Love it
Actually the climate control unit is separate and it fits in the space immediately below it and you can buy modern Android headsets (cheap) that are a bolt in fit in the E46 and not only look great and look like a factory fit they work with the steering wheel controls and can even be used with Torque Pro.
if i could not get a evo this would definitely be my second choice
