Not a whole bunch of gasp and expressions between each sentence, this is like the most realistic dialogue I’ve watched in anime, especially when she hit him with the singing, that was smooth.. aye 2 years later I’m getting jumped on RUclips (basically I’m saying this dialogue is really smooth and fresh in my opinion I’m not a fanatic fat anime watcher like some of y’all it’s not that deep)
I was legit having flashbacks of the enies lobby arc of one piece the built up of usop vs luffy was just felt like a legit argument I get that this is the opposite of an argument tho xD
Here’s my theory: Odokawa is the only one who sees people as animals. As the doctor mentions there’s something strange about him, beyond socially. When he mentions to the nurse that she’s the only Alpaca around there’s an unnerving laugh, as if it was a weird joke that fell flat. Also the comedy duo of animals are called the homosapiens. Why would they even know what a Homosapien is in a society of animals? Next, there are still normal cats and birds, plot holes in Odokawas mental cover. Lastly, all the people in the Odokawas abrupt flashbacks seem to be human. Most likely it’s from before he put up this animal facade to block out trauma. Just some fruit for thought :)
Dude... I was sitting here, joking with myself, "It would be cute if they got together, but she's too smooth, there's some other guy, like a doctor or something." Then the phone thing. I have never been so simultaneously freaked out and happy.

I love how the conversation flows fast without pauses. In most anime this dialogue would be 50% weird gasps, breaths and other noises that no one in real life actually makes when talking
Actually it's so fast that it's unrealistic. You cannot answer any question so fast unless you knew beforehand what the other person is about to ask. Those "Hm../Uh..." are used to give you time to think, so it's normal to use them in a real conversation, specially to answer unexpected questions from a stranger.
I feel the real answer here is the middle ground. This flows much faster than your average conversation would, but it's because Odokawa is being snippy and Shirakawa is, with quiet defiance, coming up with new questions just as quickly. He's almost trying to shut down the discussion but she is determined to continue it. It shows their chemistry quite well I think.
Yeah I mean this is seinen (directed to more mature audiences). The “most anime” you talk about is usually shounen (directed to kids and teens). Idk much because I don’t live in Japan but I’d guess the gasps and stuff prolly a culture thing that attracts young people’s attention in Japan. Other seinen anime also have this kind of more mature dialogue, it’s just shounen anime are way more mainstream lol. Many seinen anime are sleepers sadly.
Aaa, i love how quick you can feel their conversation go. Like, they both manage to keep up with each other, and the sheep gal clearly has no issue with it. Just that alone helps you see how well they can go together, capable of following through with one another's word and responding confidently and honestly. Then you finish it off with her showing him that he's her crush :) Edit: Oh, pardon me, she is an Alpaca ^^
What I find interesting is the dialogue and the way they speak despite being talking animals you'd expect they'd have some ridiculous over the top stereotypical Japanese voice acting but no they sound like regular normal people and I honestly like that
There was a comment theorizing that those animal people aren't actually animals but regular humans and the walrus (Oodakawa) uses animals to push back trauma that happened to him years ago
At first i was like "Damn, a show about a depressed guy suffering through life. I can relate to that." but then a woman showed interest in him and i lost all ability to relate to him.
No you don't. You just get these chatterboxes talking in a way that sounds like it's just profound enough to be beyond your understanding but actually turns out to be the ramblings of an insane extrovert
Sadly, actual taxi drivers can be much less fun to talk to. Depending on the country, actual taxi drivers will mostly start talking about awkwardly angry right wing talking points. Or incredibly detailed life stories that are interesting but sad, or utterly banal. Sorry to the taxi drivers that don't fit into that, but I have met so many of those specific types....

Quite a dynamic, real, and well-done scene. Not even just in the animation, but how...well-paced and real the conversation feels all in all. We explore the Walrus and his emotions and And we even learn quite a bit on Miho. It's all brilliantly well done. Might actually watch the anime because of this.

I do remember a man who would bring his son to the bakery every Wednesday, and...then go feed the ducks. He would buy all of the sourdough bread. Of course, y'know, you're not supposed to feed the ducks sourdough bread at all. It swells up in their stomach, and then they all die. At, uh, at least...at least, that's what I've heard. Y'know, I-I never saw any ducks die myself, but I did notice a substantial decrease in the duck population over the course of a few years. I just never thought to stop the man and tell him that he was killing the ducks by feeding them sourdough bread! And if you want my opinion on the matter-heh, and I told Orville this as well-if you wanna feed ducks, or birds of any kind, for that matter, it's best to buy seed. I mean, when you think about it, breads of any sort don't occur in nature. They don't grow on trees o-or spring up from the bushes. I don't think birds know what to do with bread. What was I saying? Oh oh, yes yes. So I bought Orville some rye bread. What a fine day it was."
Theory time His parents died in a car accident he was in, and the trauma made him lose a lot of emotions. Afterwards, he was sent to a support centre where he was kept safe, but the trauma left him emotionless.

Yeah, a lot of anime utilizes dramatic gasps and either long pauses or over the top fast speech so this is a nice middle ground.

the pacing, the rythm and the writing of this scene is so genuinly great, it is beyond the anime genre itself.
