Buying in to Emin's work is to admire the marketing. It's the Emperor's new clothes. One is supposed to be revealed as sophisticated through understanding her work and that's the con. It's marketing and the con is Saatchi. Fake art, fake economy - She is of our time.
The Encyclopedia Britannica Online describes art as "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others". Sums it up quite nicely I think.

Art and skill are different things, and just because some people like something that you don't (or are willing to pay a lot for it), that doesn't mean art (or skill) "has regressed". If anything, you find a much wider gamut of styles, themes and techniques today than you ever did before, which means everyone is _more_ likely to find some art they like.
@@RFC3514 When someone hangs a Banana on a wall & that's it, no matter what it represents, it's just taking the piss. The amount of times my friend has taken me to the local Contemporary Arts Centre to view the latest 'Installation', where you walk round viewing god knows what for half an hour while listening to the artist talk a lot of bollocks trying to explain it all. Local 'Artist's' get commissioned to design pocket parks for people to use as local spaces to read & relax that nobody actual use except Junkies, or different 'Artists' colourfully paint some pavement or a wall that looks hideous, while I walk around & have to look at this crap everyday while these 'artists' are laughing at us all the way to the bank. It's similar to Modern Jazz & Contemporary Dance, anything goes.
@thengoto20 I shan't apologise for what I write and I pretend nothing. If you scour RUclips or go to my channel you will find I'm consistent in both how I speak and write. As it happens I am a writer but I have no interest in working as a journalist.

I'm not a fan of her work but I've always liked her, she comes across as sweet and funny.
