  • Hey fam, in this video I take a deep dive on the Hollis DX300X.
    Is this the best drysuit you can buy without going custom? I guess we'll find out.

    I waited for my first ever drysuit, Fourth Element Argonaut with sitech silicone seals for 16weeks. 😅🙈 Absolutely love it! I just did 20 dives over 5days at work, relatively shallow reef dives at Great Barrier Reef and with rashie and tights I was pretty darn comfortable even if water temperature was about ±26c and air temperature clos to 30 😁

    Great video & I agree as a DX-330X suit owner! The silicone neck seals are a big bonus compared to latex, which tear easily. For the price, there isn't much better IMO.

    Great video as always. I loved that intro. "The drysuit isn't a just a fancy dive garment, and a straight up chick magnet. It's a vessel that defies the harsh realities of cold water diving. Your armour against the frigid embrace of the abyss."
    I would be interested in hearing about your story of being left at sea. I've never had that experience myself and I can imagine the sense of dread it would bring. Happy to hear your mindset has been adjusted to always ensure your safety and visibility at sea as a result.

    Ok. We NEED to hear your “Lost At Sea” story. Consider it a public service to share your cautionary tale.
    Boat (or even shore) separation is always a possibility. Asides from being ready gear-wise (I already carry - on every dive - a couple of whistles, a signal mirror, three lights, a DSMB with spool, a strap to keep a buddy close at hand, a Nautilus Lifeline [old version with voice] and even an orange fluorescent dye marker) but mentally. What should we be prepared to experience?
    Thanks for your great videos.

    Just picked mine up yesterday!
    After fighting with my old White's Fusion (pre-Aqualung Fusion) since last winter, and an interesting AN/DP course with a leaky/flooding drysuit, it was finally time to commit. I really wish there was an option for a relief valve, or a blanked hole off the rack, but besides that I couldn't find any drawbacks on paper either.
    (Whenever they finally do go, I may try an find some tri-lam socks for a replacement though)
    Excited to take it through the paces this weekend on a few shakedown dives!

      @DiveVibe  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hell yeah! I had a whites fusion back in the day as well. You're gonna like this a lot more. A relief valve really isn't super difficult to install. Dive right in scuba has some good videos. You can get a punch that's sized for the whole you need. Throw a block of wood under it so you dont cut the backside of your suit and smack the punch with a hammer. Then all you need is to make a little gasket (depending on the model) and you're good to go. Definitely measure twice when you're deciding where to punch the whole. I'm definitely doing it to my suit at some point. Thanks Briton! Enjoy your suit!

    I own this drysuit, personnaly I love it. But being tall and skinny ... it can be baggy in summer time, but cold water diving with extra layer the fit is great!

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah I could see that. I know a lot of people in Florida will do a "cave cut" if they dont plan on using outside of Florida caves, which aren't really that cold. Thanks for watching fam!

    Interesting comments. I've owned many drysuits throughout my diving career and the 300X is probably the worst. After about 6 months of use the suit started to leak on one of the arm seams. A short time later most of the material seams were not watertight. The suit eventually went back to Hollis as irreparable, and I replaced it with a Fourth Element Argonaut.

    • @muellermaxwell

      Mine got leaks on the wrists after maybe 10 dives
      Then after maybe 50 rides the crotch seam started leaking really badly

    I was looking at getting one of these for many of the reasons you said (except height - no worries for me there) and because they seem available in Australia.
    I think you can also get it with pee valve? Not sure - but I think that's a compulsory feature.
    I ultimately ended up spending more and going with a made to measure Santi - just got the shipping notice for that a few hours ago.

    Why is your tank always so fricking low?? That cant be right. It looks so awkward. And how do you even perform the shutdown drill with the valves located on the middle of your backbone??

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  9 месяцев назад

      Lol, maybe it looks low because im 6'5"? I can touch the back of my head to my 1st stage while diving, easily. When im in backmount doubles, my head is almost resting on the isolator, so im not sure what you're talking about. Who does valve drills while diving single tank? You're just shutting off your only gas supply. Even if you had a massive gas leak, you wouldn't do that.

    • @miks8
      @miks8 9 месяцев назад

      @@DiveVibe OK, fair enough.
      Actually we do practice valve shutdown also on single tanks and my buddy once had a real need to execute it. We're talking cold water diving and reg freeze freeflow situation. So you close the valve, open to take one big breath, close it up again, in case you're alone, lost buddy. Or shutdown and switch to buddy breathing to ascend slowly and do your safty stop properly, no rush or stress.

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  9 месяцев назад

      @miks8 lol, good point. Most training agencies would have you breathe from the freeflowing reg until you get to your buddy's alternate or your redundant gas supply (if solo), or just ascend. If you can shut down the valve and reset it, even better. Thanks for the comment. Take care!

      I'm still a big fan. Everything is holding up great. I had it in some chilly spring water today and I was cozy and dry. Someone said they've seen issues with the velcro wearing on other parts of the suit, but I think that was an older version. I've seen no sign of the velcro abrading the suit and im watching for it.

    This is an OK suit. It doesn't compare with SF Tech, Seal, or Santi. This suit has a HUGE problem. These velcros damage the drysuit sewings. I do not recommend this dry suit. It is just a matter of time to start having issues.
