Thanks for the video Matt. You are the one person who got me off the couch and back into the woods. I am 52 and had to go out on disability at 49 because of a severe truck wreck, I was an over the road driver. So thanks for all the support and help that you gave me that you never knew about. Keep making the videos please.
Rolling up in that tarp reminds me of my Basic Training at Fort Dix. We went to the field and a storm was blowing in all day. That night they would not let us join up our Shelter Halves and said just roll up in them. Canvas will let water through of course if you are touching it as we all know. Right at dark when they turned us loose to set up I managed to find a sort of high spot in the line of Pine trees along our supposed to be Perimeter and had some cord in my pack. I tied one end of my Shelter Half about a foot or a little more off the ground. Just enough to let me crawl in and not looking like much of anything pitched. Threw some Pine Needles and Cones over it as best I could and woke up the next morning after a pretty much all night rain bone dry. Everyone else in the Platoon were soaking wet. I noticed I was being eyed by the Drills and stood out like a sore thumb. I handed my weapon to my buddy next to me and walked over to the nearest mud hole and sat down in it. We all got a much needed laugh out of that, but my getting wet and being as miserable as everyone else was coming whether I cooperated or not. LOL. This was back when they were changing over from the 100% Cotton Fatigues to the new Poly Blend stuff which I hated. Before we would go to the Field they would run us through the Quarter Masters and issue us an old set of the salvaged 100% Cotton ones to keep us from tearing up our new issue I guess. Anyway the same morning as we began our PT I ripped the entire ass end out of those old Cotton Fatigues and had to flap in the breeze for the next couple of days. I wasn't about to complain. That would have cost me dearly. Sorry. Memories are all an old dude has.
Very good video. After spending so much money in backpacking gear for the last 10 years, I am finally using a tarp for a shelter that is dirt cheap. Thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm and these kind of shelters. God bless you.
When one is so close with the earth, not just in a survival situation, but thriving and in a Spiritual sense, recharging from the energy provided by Gaia and exchanging that energy as Matt clearly does, one is definitely going to be perpetually happy, hopeful, and humming with positive vibrations they draw from the Earth. 😊🙏
You Guys did so well on this Matt that I Shared it with Family. These Videos the two of you have been producing together are really good Buddy! You will always be my Iconic Hero! Thanks and as Always, .. Blessings from Oregon! ... Mike.
Just found the channel, sub'd and liked. Matt, it's great to see you in your element, and excellent filming Sarah. I hope to see a lot more. Thank you brother
Hey Matt, enjoyed you on tv and appreciate your real world application knowledge that you bring with you. Bought your condor knife and love it. Keep up the videos and I will be watching!
I just got one of your Condor Knives, and I really love it ... I love this instructional video ... Even if you don't use a tarp, it is still a lesson in the position and set up of any campsite ... He is the Professor ...
cuban fibre is very light but they make that noise like a space blanket.. really impressed to see you on you tube Matt ,finally a series we can watch and NO ADS, not that theres anything wrong with making a buck ,we all need money but im impressed you haven't filled it with ads
Miss you on TV - glad to have found your youtube channel! Thanks for the demonstration. I will be out kayak camping with a tarp this weekend/next week.
Thank you for so many interesting tips. It's first time we watched your video and we are happy that we found you. There is lots we can learn from you. Greetings from Ireland :-)
Great to see Matt back sharing tips again, was so disappointed that he is no longer on dual survival, I got my tarp from mountain laurel designs, Cuban fiber, quite happy with it
Thanks for the tips! This is the first time watching one of your RUclips vids. I've been a fan of your TV shows. I bought your Condor knife...great design!
Awesome video! When tarp camping in the desert I was able to pile sand around the bottom and keep the wind and cold out. The Earth is a great resource if you know what you’re doing.
just checked the prices on the Hyperlite tarp. Speaking of being high....Brother must be flying at 30,000 feet if he thinks someone is gonna pay THAT price for a tarp. For that price, I can afford to bring 2 people along to build my shelter for me and screw the tarp.
Oh snap. Matt Graham! Just found this channel. I like the lean-to. modified lean-to and classic A frame (sometimes grounded other times flying). Sure I will Subscribe!
I go through a new set of tent pegs every year in Algonquin park. Its the canadian shield so its all rock. Anywhere from rock to a couple feet of soul/moss. There's always one peg that won't go in and/or gets bent in the process of finding its place.
amazing. thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. I have one request, and that's if you could please zoom the camera in on the knots and ties? Again, thank you!
Great video, thanks! Do you think you could do a quick tutorial on how to tie the ropes to the tabs? I couldn't see how you made them so they were easy to move, but wouldn't slip. Or if anyone knows what know he used, I can look it up.
Hey Matt, Thanks for the great video lesson, there! Do you (and Sarah?) have any more content coming anytime soon? Hoping you’re well & looking forward to whatever comes next!
That's a show I don't get tired of at all, so I'm fine with it not ending, especially if it had Matt, Hudson, Terry, Jake, and Tom, and the other professionals... Lol.
Matt, I do not normally disagree with "TV Survival" personalities but, a Mylar Space Blanket in your kit has and will continue to save lives because they do work, especially in a Super Shelter configuration. I will always recommend to carry at least one survival space blanket or even the reusable reflective blankets in your kit. .
Great vid Matt👍👍 new sub here! Big fan! Seen your shows, read your book and just realized you have a youtube!! Sick!! Im a new tuber and your vids are a great inspiration!! Thanks man👍👍
... wow... Thanks Matt !! most of it i knew, but i DID learn some things ( or @ least rekindled old knowledge ; ) So Thanks Again & know you helped an old man of 73. & ya gotta new sub ; )
I "tarped" when I was a poor backpacker. If I still did it it would be a 9' x 12' Dyneema tarp with at least 18 tie-out points. I want some decent VOLUME inside my tarp setup so I can easily set up and still have 360 degree protection from the elements.
i am very surprised to see the likes down this video. to my mind matt is very awesome person cause all things he can do is all about nature first. that is great. i have no more friends man-i-have-mechanic-saw-and-i-am-god-of-woods. the idea of nature usage without damage is really great. so 10+ video is great. as always.
Thanks for the information. In my opinion I think it would have been more helpful for you to demonstrate on a tarp that someone could buy at a local hardware store. The tarp you used cost 365 dollars. I think that most people would never spend that much money for a tarp.
Hay Matt , UdaMan !. That tarp U used is way to big buck for old poops like me . I take spray adhesive and stick a solar blanket to the inside of my tarps .
Know the weather patterns in your area, and the direction prevailing wind usually comes from. (Often in the states, west, NW, or SW depending where you are) Also notice terrain. For instance, in the evening, cold air can spill down mountainsides once the sun goes down, and the air up there cools down, gets heavy and falls. In that case I often point the back of my shelter at the mountain slope so it blocks that cold air.
Tough one Frank C. Not hard to figure in a 'normal' weather pattern, but I've had storms coming in from the SW (almost always where they come from here) and the wind violently changes to straight north or east. The only sure way to be protected from the weather is to have the option to close off every direction. Not much help I know, but very true.
Matt olá , meu nome é Breno, sou um grande fã de você, faz muito tempo que assisto seus vídeos irmão, Mat e Joe eu amo essa dupla do desafio em dose dupla ! São os melhores.. Deus abençoe sua vida Mat Graham..
Why would you show a $365 tarp to the general community when a polyethylene painters cloth or window sheet could be purchased for $5 to $10, aside from the durability? Why cover yourself with the tarp in the manner that you did when you would get wet and a poncho/tarp will keep you dry and provide shelter? And why would you cover yourself on the ground and add a ground sheet when your presentation initialized with just the tarp? Dynemma, the tarp you showed is exceptionally expensive. Having made a 4.70 ounce floorless tent, 5X9X3.5 feet w/hooded mosquito netted vent is far superior to the tarp shown and cost me $225 for all materials which many people can make. A tent protects entirely from the cold, rain, sleet, snow and wind. As a survivalist you are aware of body heat robbing wind and the other elements described. A tarp is an effective but reduced potential shelter compared to a tent.
Uh he wasn’t trying to show off the tarp he was showing how to use a tarp. Hints the reason he mentions tips on cheaper tarps. This man lives in the woods 24/7 by choice. Of course he is going to have a tarp that is built to last a long time
Went to the web site in the description and as of April 2019 the 8ftX10ft tarp shown in the video is $385.00,,, for that price it better be bullet proof . ! . ! . !

Matt is someone I look up too and who inspired me to start my journey into primitive skills and living, his knowledge and experience is abundant.

I learned in college that having brains is one sure way of not getting along with grunts. But the generals sure take notice.
Fort Dicks, you say?

Always nice to listen to a happy , positive and just full of energy fellow hiker. Thanks
I love how no matter what Matt is always positive and happy
You have to be positive to survive in the wilderness. Panic and doubt is what kills
first rule is scuba diving as well .

Amazing info, I'm making a 12x12 silpoly tarp and you brought up stuff that never would have occured to me. Thank you!
Hey Matt, I loved seeing you on the TV shows, but I don't have TV now so I'm glad that I found your RUclips channel. Take care and God bless.
Special thanks to Matt, & Sarah,
Great use's of the tarp for a shelter! I enjoy you primitive skill's!
That’s amazing. Thanks for the tips. I shall be using these in the Scottish highlands next week
Matt you are the man. I have watched every program you have ever done. You really know your shit. More, more , much more.
Miss you on TV - glad to have found your youtube channel! Thanks for the demonstration. I will be out kayak camping with a tarp this weekend/next week.

Matt really attracts me by his performance in battling with Ed Stafford! Plz show me where can i see more videos of him!
Great info Matt, great camera work Sarah, thumbs up!!
Great to see Matt back sharing tips again, was so disappointed that he is no longer on dual survival, I got my tarp from mountain laurel designs, Cuban fiber, quite happy with it
Great video Matt and Sarah ! Tarps are definetly something I must look into and practice with !
Matt...I remember camping when I was a "youngster"; I'm hoping to recapture those times; your post is encouraging---
Thanks for the tips! This is the first time watching one of your RUclips vids. I've been a fan of your TV shows. I bought your Condor knife...great design!
Love the tips can't wait to get out and put them to use, thanks Matt and Sarah B!
I thought $75 was expensive for a silnylon tarp till I saw Hyperlite dynema. You could buy a duplex from zpacks for that almost
Love your joy of life and spirit, been a fan for a while. God bless.
Thanks for showing us some tips and tricks. Great stuff.

I've been straight hetro for 60 years. And then I watched this vid. I think I love you Matt.
Lol!
Ma propre fille (et moi-même) n'avons presqu'aucun intérêt pour la tente...
Don't be ashamed, I feel it too.
finally the condoms m ade you realize that the gay phylisophy and the Wasp birth control one shares the same end.
Starting with "First of all, you can always just roll up in it" set you apart from most other outdoor channels. In a good way.
Tarpology, got to love it!! Thanks Matt for sharing!!
Finally you have a channel! Miss seeing you on tv. Learned a lot of survival tips watching you on DS. Liked&Subscribed!!
Darn man I never knew you had a RUclips channel. It would be cool to see some more content from you.
Advice on the wind is excellent !!!
Windy situation is really tricky. Thanks for the tips!
Oh snap. Matt Graham! Just found this channel. I like the lean-to. modified lean-to and classic A frame (sometimes grounded other times flying). Sure I will Subscribe!

Great video. Sold me on the tarp. Going to buy one.👍
Thank you for the lessons you are a terrific teacher
amazing. thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. I have one request, and that's if you could please zoom the camera in on the knots and ties? Again, thank you!
Nice demo, thanks for posting!
Great video, thanks! Do you think you could do a quick tutorial on how to tie the ropes to the tabs? I couldn't see how you made them so they were easy to move, but wouldn't slip. Or if anyone knows what know he used, I can look it up.
Subscribe to CORPORALS CORNER, AND CHECK OUT HIS TARP SHELTER VIDEOES, He shows in detail how to tie every paracord knot needed, ridge line and all!!
Prussik knot i think
Nice video with good info and pleasantly presented. I like your demeanor.
Hey Matt,
Thanks for the great video lesson, there! Do you (and Sarah?) have any more content coming anytime soon? Hoping you’re well & looking forward to whatever comes next!
He posted this 3 years ago
The 3.5mx4m tarp works nice as a roof over a hammock. Performs better than a tent if you are in mountain woods (you can sleep on a steep terrain).
Just found this channel. Good to see u again Matt!
Matt is such a nice guy. I'd love to see him on Alone, The Professionals.
The show would never end.
@@jamesmcswain8120 Ha ha ha, aye, you’re probably right.

Hyperlite tarp, hyper expensive! But an 8'x10' tarp at 9.6 ozs. with all those tie out, nice! Thanks for sharing.
Tyvek is probably just as good and about $290 cheaper
***** Tyvek is a lot less expensive. To bad it doesn't come with tie outs!
Hiker Marapese That can be remedied with marbles and loops of 550 paracord - no sewing or duct tape required.
Check out the 2Go Trifecta. Made of reflective Tyvec, comes with tie-outs for a tarp setup, and can be zipped up as a bivvy bag too. $65.00
Try DD Tarps brother. Highly recommended.
What plants are smokeable in a survival situation

before setting up the tarp, how to tell where the wind will come from, before it comes later?... cool video.

Space blankets don't work in the cold winter ... it is a fallacy !!! I mean I agree with you ...
Great teacher. Instructs from his own years of personal experience.
Great video Matt. Thank You
Awesome ❤ Thank You Matt 🙏
just what i ve been looking for
thats a 355 dollar tarp if i go look on the hyperlight mountain gear website ..... i will carry 400 grams more and pay 45 euro for my tarp !!
Cody and Matt were the best on dual survival.
TPHVICTIMS Dave and Cody were the best pairing
Finally found you lol. You are a great teacher.
Number 2 is my new favorite tarp shelter thangs Matt🍻
Matt olá , meu nome é Breno, sou um grande fã de você, faz muito tempo que assisto seus vídeos irmão, Mat e Joe eu amo essa dupla do desafio em dose dupla ! São os melhores.. Deus abençoe sua vida Mat Graham..
Matt is the real deal. He lives this stuff, not n an apartment in LA.
And he's like super-nice. Always happy, smiling, kind.
Taco wrap is fine, it will stop convective heat lost, but cold comes from below.
excellent advice. thanks Matt
Space blanket is only for reflected heat. You need some space between it and your skin. The more the better.
$365 for a tarp??? .....I can't do that.....my father would come back from the grave and beat my rear-end
Nice one Matt, cheers mate
Great tips! Thanks man
Whe al love Matt ,at least his video’s 😜 .tnxs for posting Mr Graham

Do you use a particular ridge line cord & a different cord for your tie outs on the tarp?
Thanks. Great information.

...great info and the real awesome tricks in that video!...i love tarps, but 310$ for a large piece of plastic? i don´t know?!?

I hear U on this!! Iam most definitely gonna be starting off with the HARBOR FREIGHT CHEAP CAMO TARPS, many, many different sizes and all very light.
Weighs nearly nothing, but no fires upwind as it melts so easily.
This is good stuff! Has this channel been shut down? The home page is empty. Subbing anyway...
Thanks Matt, you are the man.
Cool, thanks for the video.
do you provide any kind of private training/lessons/guided hikes for a small group?
Very cool thanks 4 the tips brother
