I personally have Michael Jordan as the goat, mainly because he accomplished so much and still beats LeBron in a few categories in less seasons played, but Jxmy makes a very compelling argument that the more Jordan played, the worse his resume was going to get (is my paraphrase of what he said, I hope I'm not twisting his words up.) Regardless, whether you have Jordan as the goat, LeBron as the goat, Kareem as the goat, it doesn't matter to me. I enjoy talking and debating these things with others and we've been blessed with sports for us to enjoy with one another, but even as someone who loves basketball a lot as a player and fan, these players aren't God and it's never that serious to attack each other personally and cause disorder and dissension over a game.

When I entertain the GOAT debate. I usually just ask who do you want as your team's leader in the NBA finals. I've gotten a lot of responses over the last few years, and seeing the difference in answers besides Lebron and Jordan was interesting. Some people preferred KD over these two, and others loved Kobe Bryant. While my question isn't profound in terms of finding the true GOAT, it has shown that not everyone is sold to a notion of a single individual GOAT. People pass up a lot of great players, and I understand that, but the reason the GOAT debate still exists today is because you can't answer it, and it's an excellent revenue stream for ESPN and the NBA.
I personally believe Jordan is the undisputed GOAT of basketball because even though LeBron is sustaining his career for longer at a good rate Jordan missed many season because of retiring for baseball and stuff and he could have kept playing after 1998 and would have put up amazing numbers because we know MJ can carry a team that's exactly what he did when he was drafted to the bull is 1984 he could have had a longer better career but people don't see the seasons he missed for baseball and the seasons he had left after the 1998 championship because in 1998 he was the Allstar MVP he was the great amount greats his last season so there was n doubt he could have carried on with his career playing at a MVP level and carrying a team on his back. I love this video, it’s so true in so many facets. My only thing was when comparing how long Lebron played, MJ didn’t retire because he couldn’t play anymore, he did it because he wanted to stop at the top of his game.

As great as lebron has sustained that level of greatness, his longevity hurts him as much as it helps him compared to jordan. Replace Jordan's longevity of career with lebrons and jordan would nearly triple all of LeBron's accomplishments and accolades.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen but this season is the first lebron season where he was a negative on the court since his rookie year (plus minus). Usually when players do this they start to decline.

MJ would had lost to the Rockets in 94 and 95, especially because they lost Horace Grant who were very important to them defensively and in the rebound aspect, so it was really a smart move for MJ to retire otherwise that would have factored in him not having as great of a career.

You cant deny the Bulls did significantly more to please Michael than the Cavs did to please LeBron. Bj was an all star on the Bulls in 1993 and Paxson who was a great sharpshooter and hit one of the most memorable shots in history for the Bulls.

The problem with some of these awards is that media comes in to play. The media actively protected MJ to generate profit, whilst to do the same nowadays they hate on Lebron. Another thing ppl don't consider is the fact that MJ was drafted into a great situation, whilst lebron was drafted into a bad one. The decisions was the best thing that Lebron could have done. The difference is that Jordan got into a team that was willing to put pieces around him, pay him etc. Lebron in the other hand got into a team that didnt want him in the first place, teamates didnt like him. I personally have Michael Jordan as the goat, mainly because he accomplished so much and still beats LeBron in a few categories in less seasons played, but Jxmy makes a very compelling argument that the more Jordan played, the worse his resume was going to get (is my paraphrase of what he said, I hope I'm not twisting his words up.) Regardless, whether you have Jordan as the goat, LeBron as the goat, Kareem as the goat, it doesn't matter to me. I enjoy talking and debating these things with others and we've been blessed with sports for us to enjoy with one another, but even as someone who loves basketball a lot as a player and fan, these players aren't God and it's never that serious to attack each other personally and cause disorder and dissension over a game.

I seen an article that estimated how many all time career points Jordan would have if he didn’t missed those 3-4 seasons he was gone. If Jordan had played those seasons and averaged around atleast 24, he would retire with over 41k points( 3k more than Kareem). And mj at the end of his career was still averaging 22.

When I entertain the GOAT debate. I usually just ask who do you want as your team's leader in the NBA finals. I've gotten a lot of responses over the last few years, and seeing the difference in answers besides Lebron and Jordan was interesting.
Some people preferred KD over these two, and others loved Kobe Bryant. While my question isn't profound in terms of finding the true GOAT, it has shown that not everyone is sold to a notion of a single individual GOAT. People pass up a lot of great players, and I understand that, but the reason the GOAT debate still exists today is because you can't answer it, and it's an excellent revenue stream for ESPN and the NBA.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen but this season is the first lebron season where he was a negative on the court since his rookie year (plus minus). Usually when players do this they start to decline.

MJ would had lost to the Rockets in 94 and 95, especially because they lost Horace Grant who were very important to them defensively and in the rebound aspect, so it was really a smart move for MJ to retire otherwise that would have factored in him not having as great of a career.

You cant deny the Bulls did significantly more to please Michael than the Cavs did to please LeBron. MJ was slowly given the pieces to a championship through amazing recruitment by the Bulls front office. Meanwhile, the Cavs get LeBron bum squad after bum squad year after year. It does not take 8 years to build a true contender around LeBron James. We also have to acknowledge that Jordan got to play in a bigger market than Bron. They definitely did not have the same opportunity.

In 1990 when the Pistons beat the Bulls in the playoffs the Bulls had 60 wins that year and had Scottie, Horace Grant, Paxson, and Armstrong who were all great role players. Bj was an all star on the Bulls in 1993 and Paxson who was a great sharpshooter and hit one of the most memorable shots in history for the Bulls.

I just think Jordan did more with Less , in terms of number of season Jordan played (15) he accomplish more then what Lebron ever did . Lebron has longevity in his side by anyone could get the most points if they stayed in the league long enough . It would take a 23 years while averaging 20 a game to reach 38K in regular season points . Jordan has a career average of 30 . If MJ didn't retire twice he would had the scoring title and Lebron wouldn't even come close to beating that . Now basketball is a two way and you cant give the GOAT to a guy that only appeared in the all defensive team 6 times in his 20 year long career . Jordan has been part of 1st team all defense since he won DPOY until his final year with Chicago . This is the case I always make when taking about Jordan , he was the best in both ends and his mentality was unmatched . Lebron never had that mentality because if he did , he would have never made that super team in Miami . The problem with some of these awards is that media comes in to play. The media actively protected MJ to generate profit, whilst to do the same nowadays they hate on Lebron. Another thing ppl don't consider is the fact that MJ was drafted into a great situation, whilst lebron was drafted into a bad one. Imagine Lebron being drafted into Miami or even Detroit for that matter. There wouldn't even be a debate around the goat. Another thing is that mjs defensive stats are slightly inflated because Pippen always guarded the best wing player of the opposing team. The decisions was the best thing that Lebron could have done. The difference is that Jordan got into a team that was willing to put pieces around him, pay him etc. Lebron in the other hand got into a team that didnt want him in the first place, teamates didnt like him. He carried that wack ass team to the finals and playoffs too many times, and after 7 years gone to waste on an organization and team taht wouldnt help him he went to miami which was a place that liked him and was willing to play around him. So Lebron did more with less technically.
