All of the Disney employees/cast members who work during hurricanes are folks who've signed up to be available then. So, please everyone, show kindness, patience, and gratitude to these people! They could be at home with their families but they've agreed to take care of you and try to make you comfortable during a difficult situation. Let's show them some love.
Growing up in Florida, Disney is a go to place during a storm. We have stayed in the resorts to ensure we had power. They did an awesome job taking care of everyone! -S
I got the last flight in before all were canceled when Dorian happened (i was coming from Australia and nothing would stop me!). It was Honestly the best exp because the parks were so dead that we got on all rides the 2 days after and there were no major lines. All we had to deal with was a Big storm in the night and i come from the subtropics so it was NOTHING XD.
Also, don't ride that skyliner when it looks like heavy rain is coming! They paused the skyliner while I was still on it last Friday trying to get from Epcot to Hollywood Studios. I was up top, the skycar rocking b/c of the winds blowing and lighting strikes going off in the distance. Scariest thing that's ever happened to me.
I am now binge watching this and older videos because I am super anxious about moving into my dorm for the first time tomorrow. Excited but terrified haha
Any time I’ve EVER been to Florida, it ALWAYS rains atleast ONCE a day! Even if it is literally a BRIEF shower! I swear! And then out of nowhere, no more rain until the next day.
Our trip in 2017 happened immediately after the parks closed for the Irma and was the best because the crowds were so low. We had to rebook flights last minute because we were on military scheduling and absolutely couldn't reschedule our trip. The transport in and out of MCO is going to be your biggest challenge.
My parents got trapped in Boardwalk with my sister while pregnant with me back in 2004 and now we are going again to boardwalk during hurricane season in a few days, hopefully history doesn’t repeat itself- but at least we are in a connected resort!
Look at a few weather apps, chances are you'll be fine. The afternoon storms cool things off which is really nice. The hardest part was how much we walked. 10 miles was the longest day.
We were scheduled to leave on Wed right when Hurricane Ian is supposed to hit, we got a flight out on Monday but told the front desk to use the room (one bedroom) for a family that may need it.
We went in August 2019 the summer that hurricane Dorian was a thing. It only affected our cruise that was post Disney World and we ended up getting off our boat 2 days late in New Orleans instead of Miami as they had closed the port of Miami. (We went on the Norwegian Breakaway) Disney World we had zero issues and it was pretty great the whole trip. Afternoon rains were no big deal.
It can work in your favour. We got to Volcano Bay the day before Irma hit - a UO team member told us at 10AM that only around 400 guests were in the park. Krakatao aqua coaster was a walk on and was so quiet we got a second ride without getting off!
Hurricane Dorian affected our last pre-COVID trip in August 2019....we ended up altering our return flight to Buffalo to an earlier flight to NYC, and a rental van to make the drive from NYC to Buffalo....it added stress for sure, but in hindsight, it is kinda cool to have pictures of the extended family in front of Cinderella's castle, from opening day at Galaxy's Edge, AND Times Square on the same trip!
@@amydoran9987 Depending on deals, we frequently drive from GTA to Buffalo, then fly to Orlando....unfortunately, during Dorian, there were no flights at all to Buffalo (where our van was parked)....so we had to fly to NYC then drive to Buff....it was a fun adventure nonetheless!
We also were there before Dorian. Had to cut the trip short, so packed 5 parks into 3 days to get a Frontier flight out before MCO closed and held us there after school started in Buffalo. My sister’s family arrived that Saturday via driving, and stayed through the storm. We both got to pick up a lot of canceled meal reservations. 1900 Park Lane, Beauty and Beast brunch, and the 50s Diner - there were 3 tables from Buffalo in our section.
I was there when the park closed for hurricane Charley! I remember it being both exciting and boring all at once. Exciting (and terrifying) because it was the first hurricane I'd ever experienced and I'd never, ever seen rain go sideways like that before. We were at Animal Kingdom Lodge, so we had a big window to watch the storm. ...What was boring was being stuck in the hotel all day, but that couldn't really be helped. My family ended up making the best of it.
We just got back from Disney . We were in the Magic Kingdom on Fri the13 th and Sat the 14th and it was almost empty. Don’t know if it was the threat of Covid or the storm forecasted. JUST Don’t buy the overpriced ponchos at Disney. Wallgreens in Orlando sell them for about $3.00 ea with Mickey on them .
I got back from Disney World during that Hurricane last month on the first night that we were at the hotel. My advice is to watch the weather channel and check with locals about what hurricanes warnings such as Erma because it it just turned into a tropical storm, thankfully.
Don't get many hurricanes in the UK. I can remember when I was about 9 we where camping with a youth group when one hit. Slowly all the main tents started to leak or have rivers running through and we ended up with 14 in a 8 birth caravan and 9 in a 4 birth trailer tent. All the men went to go and help transport people to the local village halls (was a festival and at that time you could even sleep in the big tips if you had no tent) as well as handing out space blankets. Can remember going through the eye and how everything went very quiet and calm.
I was there in November 2022, and WDW closed for Hurricane Nicole on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., November 9, and re-opened on November 10 at 12 noon. Our issue was the flight out on Saturday night, November 12, at 8 p.m. We were in a 4-hour line to check our luggage. So many people missed flights due to Luggage and TSA lines. It was CRAZY!!!
Flip flops and a poncho during a mild tropical storm (it was moving out of the area when the parks opened) in Disney was our best trip. We had a fun time even with the rain which cleared out by noon and even after that the Magic Kingdom was slow busy with 10-15 minute waits for the mountains for most of the afternoon. You can't plan for it, but ask folks that are familiar with hurricanes if you are planning around possible storms. Keep safe and be prepared for the worst if you decide to travel since they can change intensity and path quickly.
Can’t wait to see your review of the new Genie+ and Lightning Lanes. Hope you like Hall of Presidents and Oh Canada! Because you won’t be getting on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Ratatouilles Adventure if you’re not staying at a Disney Hotels.
Oh you can stay at Disney hotels, and still not be able to ride. If you don’t have your alarm set at 5am CST 60 days outs you’re not getting that fast pass. Been to WDW ever single year since 2015 except 2021 and STILL haven’t got a fast pass for Flight of Passage or Slinky Dog Dash.
Hurricanes in November are ridiculously rare. September is the most active month historically, with a few storms in October. But, very unusual for November. November, you deal with cold snaps.
@@alexbrown1930 are storms very common during late september? (25-31) i’m planning to go on those days and i don’t want my trip ruined cause of some rain
@@alxandro5504 I live in the Panhandle of Florida, but, as AJ has said so many times, always be prepared for rain. Brief rainstorms are always a thing in Florida. But, generally speaking, September is the most active month for the Atlantic Hurricane season, but *most* storms either go up the Atlantic coast, or between the Keys and Mexico. Storms that would actually impact Disney World, while possible, are uncommon.
It the safest place to be just continue with your trip I live in the area that's where you wanna be...also they keep many service workers that come in from different states like line workers for the power
One of the most memorable times in Disney was in august 2004. Wife and I were down in just in time for Hurricane Charlie. We were staying on an upper floor at a Marriott (don’t remember which one) and when the storm hit, you could feel the building sway. After losing power, we decided to move out into the hallway with emergency lights. Most everyone on the floor did the same thing and we ended up playing cards with a few other people until things quieted down. We also heard from staff that evening that they’d open the breakfast area and have free snacks/food/drinks for us during and after the storm. Venturing out the next morning we discovered damage wasn’t nearly as bad as was predicted. I guess hurricanes like to follow me because I was also in North Carolina for Bob (1991), Isabell (2003) and Matthew (2016).
I had planned a trip for me and my daughter that fell during Charley…we were supposed to leave for WDW the day it hit, I called Disney and they helped shift our dates so we didn’t miss a thing!
You may want to add to this, if there is a hurricane warning back in your home and it delays your getting to WDW they will refund those night(s). This happened to us, unfortunately, for our wedding trip September 2019.
And very important to tell people who are not from Florida… DO NOT OPEN A WINDOW DURING THE STORM, most people are gonna want to do it, it’s dangerous for you and for the entire building because the air can get in and the roof can collapse so, as much as you want to open and see what’s happening during the storm don’t. And yes the sound is very scary, it sounds like a loud bunch of ghost are howling outside, plus the water hitting the windows with much strength. It’s safe as long as everybody stays in :). Also, your car might and probably will get some damage at the parking lot, the smallest projectile object will do some damage on it, keep that in mind.
We were there during tropical storm Debbie; a great vacation. If you don’t mind rain and you are dressed in the correct gear it’s a great time to go. I know it sounds nuts but it truly is fun.
I was at All Star Sports during Irma in 2017. When we were confined to our room we could access Disney films for free on the TV. When we were confined to our hotel resort we had Pluto and Goofy in the food court for breakfast and Chip and Dale doing a dance party in the reception area. When the parks re-opened we had an early extra magic hours just for resort guests that had stayed during the hurricane.
If it's a tropical storm by the time it hits Orlando, it can actually be a really nice visit because the lines tend to be shorter and the parks less crowded.
I went some years ago that coincided with a hurricane off shore from Tampa that never turned inland. It was AWESOME, the crowds were soooo light at all the parks. It's the most enjoyable visit I have EVER had to Disney and Universal. I wish I could time a future trip to another near miss hurricane event churning off the coast of central Florida.
My mom and her friend went to WDW during Hurricane Irma. They stayed on property and were very surprised that the resort was partially open. They had a time share cruise scheduled but it was cancelled due to the storm. They got lots of bagged lunches and were treated awesome. The storm passed through with minimal damage and their hotel room was shaken quite a bit. It was the best place to be during a hurricane.
I proposed to my wife in Cancun right after Hurricane Dean went through in 2007...You don't know scary til you hear a coconut hit your window at 100+mph. I said "We survived a hurricane, wanna try the rest of our lives?" It was a fun trip even with the storm. But the point - Ian is forecast for the 29th of September 2022 and we're flying in on October 1st. Go away Ian.
We were there during Hurricane Gene in 2004. The day before we had to stock up on food cause they were shutting down during the storm. We were told to stay in our room but we ventured out on th balcony and took pictures. After the storm had passed we took a walk around the resort and my wife picked up a piece of broken light cover, we still have it.
Hahaha! Last time I was at WDW was when they shut down for Hurricane Floyd in 99. For many reasons we're thankful it turned, but we have to give WDW credit - we felt very taken care of. For the record we were also at the Wilderness Lodge - and getting around was pretty easy. The REALLY weird thing was smelling actual ocean at WDW after the outer bands of Floyd passed through. I came across this while binging episodes for the first trip back in a long time. Thank you for the helpful content!
Lived in FLA from 1986-2006 and went to Disney world over 35 times. Summer was always for water parks and winter and late fall was for theme parks. Large storms were never an issue.
I was in Hurricane Sandy in Pennsylvania and one of the things I did to prepare was buy baby food to use as dip and sandwich spread in case the power went out
We’ve been in 2 hurricanes at Disney. Right outside our room a large tree was up rooted and my daughter slept through it🥴. She was 24 at the time 🥴😂. We went out the next morning and it literally took a morning to clear everything up. The staff was amazing ❤. We were in our room for 2 days but they kept us well informed about what was happening. We go September so we know what to expect but we know we are safe.
@@roshundajohnson9193 June is definitely in the rainy/hurricane season, but *usually* September is the worst for hurricanes. So, there will most likely be afternoon showers.
We have been there for 2 hurricanes. The first was really bad and several years ago. The issue was that a LOT of locals came to the resort. While I think Disney did their very best to accommodate and the cast members, as always, were fantastic, the line for food was hours long. We ended up eating out of machines. They in fact refunded a lot and rebooked our trip for later. I think Disney learned a LOT from that hurricane. The second hurricane was much smaller and Disney was a lot better prepared. we were stuck in the hotel for only a day and the park was back open quickly. There were much smaller crowds and they did extend our tickets for the days we could not get to the parks.
We were at FW in our RV during Hurricane Charlie. WDW is the best when it comes to hurricanes! They communicated very well the entire week leading up to Charlie, and evacuated the entire resort to hotels. We, along with RV, were sent to POR, given a room and 4 free non-expiring park hoppers for being inconvenienced! It looked like an RV show! lol! WDW shut down at 6 PM, Charlie hit at 8 PM and was gone by midnight. Since we had our RV, we were able to take a cooler full of food, condiments, bread, etc., along with a blender and pina colada mix to our room, so we passed the evening very comfortably. :) One thing to keep in mind. When they evacuated the resort they evacuated the entire resort, cabins included. So if you think you will ride out a hurricane in a cabin this probably won't be the case.
You missed Hurricane Wilma in October 2005. It was a tropical storm by the time it got to Disney World. We knew it was coming and picked up food for 2 days. Parks closed for about 24 hours. We did get fresh towels and trash service. We went to see the Beach Boys at Food and Wine festival. Crowds that night after the storm went through were light. I would recommend bringing a jacket, as temperatures went down drastically. Also, Disney had extended huge discount to Florida residents in the path of the hurricane. We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We didn't leave the hotel until the rain stopped. But I'm also the person who is always prepared for anything. I live in the Midwest and storms don't really scare me.
Id just ride it out. Hurricanes are intense but short lived, at most youd only lose a day of your vacation, depending on the damage (which will likely be minimal). Hotel room hurricane party!
I wish I had seen this video before I got trapped in a disney hotel due to hurricane Ian😅 could have prepared myself, especially being from the UK and never experiencing something like this before
Midwesterner here who moved to Central Florida 3 weeks before Irma hit in 2017 ! I learned quick what a hurricane was all about … buckle up buttercup ! Listen up ! 👀😳
two nights of our split stay in September will be at bora bora bungalows at Polynesian. Not a safe place to ride out a storm on the water. I presume if a actual storm of significant intensity hits, some will cancel and we will be moved inside one of the land locked buildings. Anyone have any experience or info on what to expect should this unlikely situation occur?
The worst that's likely to happen is that you are stuck at a Disney resort with the restaurants closed. Then you have no choice but to eat that pre-packaged "meal" if you want to eat.
I wanted to go to Disney World with my fiancé for my 23rd Birthday next year which is in October 2022. This would be our first full Disney world trip such as Disney hotel etc. Any tips for us🥺?
@@crystalrodriguez6693 Same here!!! I never been to Florida or Disney World. Going to celebrate my golden birthday even though it was last year XD had to cancel cuz of covid but I'm not going to let that or a rain storm ruin my fun :) Hope you have a epic vacation!!!
My best Disney memory was during a tropical storm passing through. My daughter was 8 and we were in Animal Kingdom. We were there early and it raining but not too hard. We went to the photo trails for character meets. Goofy sees my daughter, threw down his umbrella and meets her mid trail with a big hug. Since no one else was there, he led her by the hand to meet everyone else.
It doesn't make much sense to me why Disney decided to put WDW in Florida, a state that has hurricanes every year. Would that not be bad for business, not to mention unpleasant for guests? You might think it would have been built in a state that does not have such extreme weather events. But, I guess it makes as much sense as putting Disneyland in California, a state that gets earthquakes.
A hurricane does not bother me - but...with Covid ravaging Florida - they will keep charging the $200 fee - I tried to cancel - guess I should have been a member of Disney show - they got 100% of their money back 4 days before they were to leave for a cruise because of Covid concerns. I will make the best of it - I am vaccinated and have no issues with masks - just wish Disney would understand the seriousness of what is happening in Florida right now.

When to Disney during Frances....luckily Disney Quest was still open and was the savior of the trip. as it was the only thing open.
Can you do a video explaining the new “genie+” stuff?
GREAT video! Very important information, came at the right time❣️Thanks.
Suppose to leave Wednesday for Disney world but with Hurricane Ian approaching, trying to figure out what to do. 9 months of planning 😕
Lived in FLA from 1986-2006 and went to Disney world over 35 times. Summer was always for water parks and winter and late fall was for theme parks. Large storms were never an issue.
Been to wdw my very first time when younger. Lots of humidity and rain
Going for the first time in September. This video is very helpful. Thank you! ~Elizabeth
In general try to do outdoor stuff early and indoor stuff mid-day (~ 3pm)
I was in Hurricane Sandy in Pennsylvania and one of the things I did to prepare was buy baby food to use as dip and sandwich spread in case the power went out
We’ve been in 2 hurricanes at Disney. Right outside our room a large tree was up rooted and my daughter slept through it🥴. She was 24 at the time 🥴😂. We went out the next morning and it literally took a morning to clear everything up. The staff was amazing ❤. We were in our room for 2 days but they kept us well informed about what was happening. We go September so we know what to expect but we know we are safe.
This is really helpful info. Thank you!
I remember 4 years ago waiting for the doors to open at test track the room was vacant
My family and I missed a hurricane in August, a few years ago by only one day.
wow! i was just there. i was only supposed to be there 4 days but ended up being there almost 10 because of ida...def not the worst place to be!
Floridian here, and I would say that September is definitely the worst month for hurricanes. I always tell people not to visit Florida in September!
How is the first week of June in Florida if you don't mind me asking
@@roshundajohnson9193 June is definitely in the rainy/hurricane season, but *usually* September is the worst for hurricanes. So, there will most likely be afternoon showers.
Me living in Louisiana be like..." Honey the weather for Disney late summer is Great!"
time to book another vacation lol
I know right.
Disney resorts are great place to stay during a hurricane. Coastal Florida residents use them as hurricane shelters.
One thing to keep in mind. When they evacuated the resort they evacuated the entire resort, cabins included. So if you think you will ride out a hurricane in a cabin this probably won't be the case.
Please make a video about Genie+ and Lightning Lanes (which I am not happy about lol)
I am supposed to fly into Orlando on Saturday! 😮
I’m going in two weeks!
Dang whoever wrote this script needs a promotion!
9:41 Stitch! And he's grooming himself? How cute. :D
9:43 "[...]your favorite characters[...]" Oh, you! :D
Id just ride it out.
Hurricanes are intense but short lived, at most youd only lose a day of your vacation, depending on the damage (which will likely be minimal).
Hotel room hurricane party!
Hi, do you have more videos like this? We’re going to Disney world for our first time this late August 2023 and want to be fully prepared :)
Listen up ! 👀😳
Love y'all's videos
two nights of our split stay in September will be at bora bora bungalows at Polynesian. Not a safe place to ride out a storm on the water. I presume if a actual storm of significant intensity hits, some will cancel and we will be moved inside one of the land locked buildings. Anyone have any experience or info on what to expect should this unlikely situation occur?
All year long it rains in Florida.
It rains slightly less in winter lol
Especially when I'm there
The worst that's likely to happen is that you are stuck at a Disney resort with the restaurants closed. Then you have no choice but to eat that pre-packaged "meal" if you want to eat.
I was just there last week. I rather it being raining. Instead of 100% heat. So miserable!
Hurricane dinner reservation - draw straws and the short straw holder becomes the entree.
I've read that Orlando is one of the safest cities hurricanes.
AJ are you going to give us information on the new lightning track.
BobCheap-eeekworld. He'll leave a bad flavor in your mouth!
I love disney!
I remember that my family and I had to leave early bc of hurricane 🌀 Danny
I am going September 18th-24th. Hopefully they are over with by then.
Slightly disappointed as a tampa local that you’re giving away the secrets 😂 after storms/hurricanes are the best times to go to the park
I can see it now October 1st the park closes
I’m actually going on September 5th and now I’m actually very scared. I knew about rain but now I’m unsure.
It will be fine :)
2016 HURRICANE Matthew I was staying on I-Drive but they named it after me to cheer me up 👍🏻😉
worried because i’ll be going on the 3rd. ian please don’t ruin this😢
Since there is no more free fast passes?
Is DAS still a thing?
Wish I knew about this during June 2016
I wanna go to Disney now during a hurricane 😁!
I wanted to go to Disney World with my fiancé for my 23rd Birthday next year which is in October 2022. This would be our first full Disney world trip such as Disney hotel etc. Any tips for us🥺?

Same! 😁 it will be my first time to Florida and Disney. Have a great vacation!

Going to be there Oct28 - Nov3 hopefully the Hurricanes will wait... Lol
Yayyy new video
My best Disney memory was during a tropical storm passing through. My daughter was 8 and we were in Animal Kingdom. We were there early and it raining but not too hard. We went to the photo trails for character meets. Goofy sees my daughter, threw down his umbrella and meets her mid trail with a big hug. Since no one else was there, he led her by the hand to meet everyone else.
Hello DFB
