      Are you joking? This thing is completely useless. You think otherwise? Tell me how many dangerous or repetitive sequences you can think of that require a bot to pull itself up and/or toss a ball into a hole? Exactly, it's useless.

    I’m curious, as an electronics lead for an frc team, how do you simplify and organize your electronics so that they are accessible and organized but protected at the same time? Asking for next year in order to simplify and organize our electronics for best utilization of space

    • @sammoore1979
      @sammoore1979 2 года назад +1

      @Assistant to the regional manager 1714 here. What we did was create our electrical panel on the side of our robot, and then cover it with a polycarb sheet that you can just screw on before a match, and screw off when you want to access the electronics. We also had our battery on the bottom of our robot behind the intake. It was under where the balls would go, and protected with a screw on polycarb slot. The screws had handles on the top so you could open the slot by hand.

    • @assistanttotheregionalmana5810

      @@sammoore1979 so was the electronics board mounted vertically on the side with wires routing to motor controllers throughout the robot? Also sounds very cool. I like the idea of covering the board with polycarbonate so it’s removable but also see through👍

      Our team made an electronics box that you could take out of the robot so you could work on electronics and the robot at the same time. It was pretty nice having the programmer take 30 seconds to plug in the electronics and do a test for a line following program if just how it drives while we are working on an arm or whatever. Only problem that it was a lot of vertical space but depending on the task it might be an option

      Is it possible for you guys to get any mentors? I'm a university student and we do a lot of pair programming and get a lot of help from instructors and it's done wonders for my programming ability.
      I'd also recommend trying to get your team to read and learn a lot about programming. Back when I did FRC, being comfortable with Java syntax (up to interfaces/lambdas) was important. Additionally, simply reading the wpilib docs thoroughly and knowing which parts of the robot are already built for you helped immensely. Finally, if you're looking into more advanced stuff, I'd suggest reading about design patterns and practices, so that your code is clean and easily modified.
      Personally, I learned Java syntax through Codecademy, and I read a book called **Clean Code** by Robert C. Martin to learn better design. Obviously not everyone will want to put in this much effort but it's a start if you don't know where to begin!

    • @fatbirb5481
      @fatbirb5481 2 года назад

      Oh, and another thing, remember it's not all just coding. Programming is really about talking through solutions together, so make sure you prioritize building a positive team culture!
